"After" footage was filmed June 5, 2024 for the 10:30pm show.
Yup, both videos were filmed exactly two years apart!

Always love seeing the before/after comparison vids on iconic attractions and shows like this. I knew it was a downgrade without the dragon, but I'm very surprised they cut so much of the lighting and effects. There was ample opportunity to utilize the cost of the dragon in other elements of the show. Not to mention, it's shorter in duration. Maybe the next variation will bring out some new elements we never dreamed of to fill in those gaps. As much as everyone wants the dragon, I can understand the engineering nightmare it holds to maintain, so I would favor something else (not screen based) to replace: perhaps a Chernabog animatronic... or Ursula... They could both use the projection mapping magical trick of the eye, too. Or maybe more other IPs like Hades, Tiana's representation, or a bunch of the newer well-done stuff as well.

I can imagine how much of a an engineering beat the dragon is too, especially now that more than likely Disney wants to make sure an incident like what happened doesn’t occur again. The current version of Fantasmic is lacking compared to its earlier versions, so I hope something is in store for the show for Disneyland’s 70th’s anniversary.

The way I see it the way mickey mouse fights maleficent now is similar to the power rangers when the main villains in the power rangers franchise turn the monsters they send after the power rangers into Giants so now when maleficent fights mickey mouse maleficent can turn herself into a giant maleficent can't turn herself into a dragon anymore but I knew the self-proclaimed mistress of all evil had other tricks up her sleeve

Left side may be one of the parts I like Mickey in the extened beginning, but Pirates of the Caribbean scene wasn't much exciting as the Peter Pan scene. And the barely heard exit music from 2012-2023 was owned by Tokyo Disney Sea that doesn't match the ecit music right after teh finale, and vice versa from Tokyo. So (dragon or no dragon from Malificant,) I prefer the post-2024 version.

Interesting take! I also agree with the extended beginning with Mickey. Maybe I need to get used to it, but the current beginning without Mickey feels a little empty, same for the Peter Pan scene. That’s just me though! Thank you for watching!
