Wonderful commentary on a jacket that's difficult to find information on.

I have one in Fleck I use often here in Alaska for survival training. These are a bit over engineered and on the heavy side compared to a DEU issue smock but they're still good smocks when compared to most.

    Re: armour.
You'd wear your plates underneath the smock and a chest rig over the smock. If you'd wear plates, most likely wouldn't on recce.
This is your most outer layer. Waterproofs and thermals go under it.
Thank you for the review. I'll be picking one up soon.

I've read about wearing the waterproof layer under the jacket a couple of times now, wouldn't the jacket just get heavy and cumbersome as it soaks full of water though?

Yes you are correct. Most ppl are just repeating what they hear others say. In all my years I have never worn my rain gear under my smock, save one time after hearing someone claim its the best way top do it. It was a shyt sandwich at best. . @@Nostradankus

Thank you so much for this video. I have been searching for information on this jacket to compare it with TACGEARs version and you have helped me so much with this video. Great information - well presented. You clearly have a mind for purpose detection and you have my respect.

The origen of the big inside chest pockets are from the MK 1 Denasen smock they were nicke named Brazier . If you look at photos of British Parratroopers about to bord there gliders Dakotas you can see them bulging in them they carried exstra food small tins of bully beef spam potatos tea sugger ect . These in turn were copys of Norwegian sky anoraks which had a chest pocket on the outside . The Norwegian army Anoraks were reversable white on the inside green on the outside so when worn with white out the pocket was on the inside which could be accessed by a deep V neck which had a V shaped tounge with eather buttons or toggles later zips but with lage teath as a small tooth zip can freeze . These were bought back to the UK by Norwegian free Army and by British Paratroopers Who later joined the Paratroopers like the Guards Division Paratroopers

4:10 ... what you show it is the Standard 3 Day 60L Backpack, not 120L.

The image is for a standard infantry pack, but the PzGren and KSK have their own packs which we regrettably did not have for demonstration.

Thanks for a very good video review! Do you think that the lining in the jacket could be removed completely? Thinking then that the lining is missing on the back and that it is better to wear an extra layer of a windproof jacket instead.

The upper back of the jacket is not lined. The lining on the front of the jacket also manages the internal and external pockets.

    Linings are too hot.
Wool cuffs take too long to dry and are hot, not letting in any air....velcro cuffs allow air flow and for you to roll up sleeves partially....and are OK wet.
Body armour goes over smock no problem assumingtop pockets not jam-packed....the lower pockets can still be used.
