Great job as usual, Jay. This vid has been added to my "favs" list! As I'm familiar with the layout around LAX, both from actually flying into and out of the airport and also from years as a computer flight "simmer"; as seen from the beginning of this vid you arrived at your "spot" quite early in the morning to start filming on day #1. The shadows cast by the rising sun are east of the airport as the jets took off soon over the Pacific Ocean. I agree as seen in other YT channel vids, your vantage point is perfect to catch all types of planes at this fantastic and extremely busy airport!

Great Video of LAX Jay! :-) Tonight United Airlines launches daily 787-9 flights between LAX and Singapore. At 8,770 miles it’ll be the Worlds Longest 787 Dreamliner Flight. The Flight Numbers UA37/38 were previously used by Singapore Airlines SQ37/38 when they flew daily A340 flights between LAX and Singapore and ended the flights in November 2013. On November 1 2017 El Al resumes flights between Tel Aviv and Miami. Royal Jordanian is keen on Florida. I’m sure they’ll order 20 or 30 787-9s to expand flights to the United States and Amman Queen Alia Airport will be expanded.

I love LAX, although its a 50 min drive with traffic for my parents to take me. I usually convince them to take me to the In-N-Out since it would be a waste of gas to go there for just me plane spotting lol. How do you spot from TBIT? Do you just walk in? Also, would you recommend Imperial Hill more than the Terminal for takeoffs? (Sorry for the questions)
Thanks for watching, Joshua! Sorry it took a little time for me to get back to you. you need a ticket to access the terminal in most cases. In-N-Out is AWESOME and I have it every time I go. Imperial Hill is certainly much better for spotting overall. Spotting from inside the terminal takes a lot of work to get good shots and minimize window glare. Plus you have lots of people talking and lot of background noise.
It was a reposition flight if I remember correctly... may have had some maintenance MEL, might have had hot brakes, etc. but I doubt the pilots forgot.
I don't think the pilots forgot about the gear either. You can even see the wheel well doors open but the gear didn't come up. The doors closed again when the pilots put the gear lever back into the down position after noticing the gear wouldn't retract. Also, I find it strange the nose gear door didn't open along with the main ones.
I guess i'll explain this more simply. There was no issue with the gear failing to retract due to it failing after takeoff. Pilots don't just fly off thinking "oh well, I guess the gear didn't retract. We'll just have to burn a bunch more fuel on our way to the destination." I certainly would've heard the ATC chatter about it on the radio and seen it come around and land or at least troubleshoot. I just dispatched a flight today with one of these MELs (if you need me to explain what an MEL is I can) where the fire detection warning loops in the wheel wells were malfunctioning and they had to leave the gear down for 10 minutes after departure to ensure adequate cooling of the brakes in the airstream (where they cool rather quickly) since with those deferred the pilots can't really tell as well if there is a brake fire or not after takeoff. If you pull the gear up with no way of fire detection from hot brakes you'll trap the heat in the wheel wells and you won't know if there is a fire until much too late. This is a standard practice. There are other issues that may be possibilities here as well, since this aircraft was going to DFW and being a high capacity quick-turn the brakes may not have had adequate time to cool completely from a prior landing since it wasn't on the ground that long. After landing from a long flight you have time to cool the brakes since you're on the ground with the gear out for a while assuming the next flight isn't for a while. If the temperatures were still high and then amplified by brake heat accumulated from the long LAX taxi then yes, the crew may have decided to leave the gear down to ensure adequate cooling to prevent bad things like possibility of the tires exploding from lack of cooling if pulled up into the airplane to quickly. Brakes don't get as hot on taxi as on landing, but in this case we don't want excess heat at all and on a long taxi at LAX this is a very real possibility with cumulative heat buildup from braking. With the northern 6L-24R closed LAX only had three runways working and the taxi lines were long for takeoff. Additional information: This was N827AN, flightaware.com/live/flight/N827AN/history/20171021/2105Z/KLAX/KDFW Having just arrived from Tokyo Narita a few hours earlier the brake temp issue seems a good reason. There was no circling or troubleshooting after takeoff as I assumed correctly. Also, I have actually been able to jumpseat on this aircraft type and can tell you it is so fully automated an aircraft that there are no circuit breakers like you usually see on the flightdeck of any other airliner. A jet this new with this level of automation likely has the gear doors opening and closing as an automated function. I don't think the pilots attempted to put the gear up and then noticed it wouldn't come up. The doors likely come open automatically after the wheels sense no more weight on the gear. They then stay open for a while until the computer does not get a gear up indication from the cockpit and they then close to reduce drag in the windstream. There could also be a "capped" issue where the gear mechanism that stops the wheels from spinning before complete retraction was not working so they had to let the wheels stop spinning before pulling it up. Last thing you want is a tire spinning that fast continuing to spin in the wheels wells with the possibility of damage occurring to vital gear components. Also, although perhaps not the case here, often times, especially at airports like Phoenix when the weather is hotter, you'll see flights leave keeping the gear down for a while to ensure cooling. There are other reasons sometimes too, like gear getting frozen in place, etc. but those are usually not a common occurrence. Although we in the aviation industry like to make jokes about how dumb we are to keep ourselves humble, in reality there are a lot of very smart people in charge of running these incredibly complex machines. Occasionally you'll see something make the news headlines like a certain Air India crew forgetting to put the gear up after takeoff but in most cases people flying and operating planes are trying to do a good job and have their act together. Even if I don't know all the answers, I try to leave room for the benefit of the doubt. Aviation is a complicated industry and there are usually good reasons for everything you see happening on a day to day basis. There have been one too many viral videos here on RUclips from some idiot youtuber posting something online they knew nothing about and creating misguided rumors and speculation that created more stupidity among self-proclaimed know-it-alls, avgeeks and the media. Thanks for watching. The learning never stops, hopefully.
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually just went to SFO and got a lot of 747 footage from there so I don't I'll be going back to see the last one... I've said goodbye as far as I'm concerned.
Great video! I'm noticing really small wings really thin wings and it's my belief that the older planes possibly needed some type of fuel payload to keep some system operating. But it looks like engineering has found Solutions some of those fuel problems? I think the wings are using the extremely hot air from the turbines to accommodate hot air for the cabin as well as buoyancy pressure like a hot air balloon, and that the actual wings themselves are heated up and that's what helps create the lift along with the forward momentum. That's just some of my thoughts.
Nope. In general, you'll need a boarding pass or an to be an airline or airport employee. I ended up flying in for the day and then went spotting the next few days after that as well.
haha! it's usually what people say after watching my videos... welcome to the group! I don't know what the hell I was doing either... maybe just loving airplanes.

Always interesting to hear people's theories! Thanks for watching, Paul.

Can anyone get into departure terminal without boarding pass?
Nope. In general, you'll need a boarding pass or an to be an airline or airport employee. I ended up flying in for the day and then went spotting the next few days after that as well.
Be cool if a Koala hopped out of the Qantas ! Or a guy dressed as a Kangaroo 😂

Almost all UFOs are US military projects. I won't tell you how I know. Did not see anything that unusual at that time in the video.
