@LegendofTotalWar Thanks for making this Tierlist, I know you hate to make them, but I really appreciate your're doing it.
They're always hyping me up for trying out new campaigns I otherwise would avoid.
Thank you! :)
This tierlist does not make too much sense. How can there be more factions in the strong category than in average? I think the wording is off in this thing. I appreciate your work nevertheless.
Can you make "one-man-doomstack" tierlist? Please.
Why did they scramble WH3 factions? For example: Manfred's starting location--why the heck is he way out in the middle of nowhere. The campaign map is the #1 reason I'm not playing this game.
I can't get enough of tier list, it's like an addiction; thank you very much Legend.
50 mins of it too!
I only played Warhammer 2 for some hours, but i still love tier lists like this.
@@henriklarssen1331same I only played wh2 but for 100s of hours
@@HistoricallyHomeless Iam at 73 hours but then i saw how much units all my factions are lacking and how much money i had to pay to unlock everything and i went back to Call of Warhammer in Medieval 2.
The new Warhammer isnt bad, its kinda fun with many flaws, but the DLC spam is insane.
If i wanne have all DLCs i have to pay 270 bucks, sure not on sale but still insane.
And with all the negative reviews i dont think i will give the Game another try.
its honestly trash, its a shame too because its completely destroyed the total war franchise, we havent had a good game since attila, and even that was negatively reveiwed because most of the reviewers (just like legend of total war) are either too lazy or lacking in the mental capacity to play. They just want easy campigns with no thought. Hence why war hammer is so popular@@henriklarssen1331

@@berserkenjoyer1138Start on Easy/Easy with a vanilla faction. Something like dwarfs. Their units are tough and they have a good economy. Just learn how to play and keep going
It doesnt feel like theres so many fsctions because so many of them don't reallybhave a whole lot to make them unique. A lot kf the lords are just make a specific type of unit cheaper or slightly better in combat. Not enough have major campaign mechanics go make them different.
@@Noobie2k7 I don’t think you understand what your asking for.
I like that there are many different races in Over Powered tier, seems more balanced than ever.
yeah. only races that don't have any entries in the Over Powered tier are
Empire (best is in Strong)
Dwarfs (best is in Strong)
Brettonia (best is in Average)
Norsca (entire race is in Strong)
Dark Elves (best is in Strong)
Tomb Kings (best is in Strong)
Nurgle (entire race (to be fair only 1 faction) is in Under Powered)
Slaanesh (entire race (only 1 faction again) is in Strong)
Daemons of Chaos (entire race (only 1 faction) is in Under Powered)
and Ogre Kingdoms (best is in Strong)
so... only 3 races (2 of which are only 1 faction, both of which are in Under Powered) fail to reach the Strong tier, and only 10/24 races fail to reach Over Powered
the Skaven show themselves to be clear winners with all 3 of their DLC factions making it into Over Powered and all 3 of their non-DLC factions getting into Strong
I guess Tzeentch has the same ratio but we've not had a bit update for the inevitable Changeling nerf yet (a nerf I personally will be sad to see), nor do they have the same quantity of factions yet.
it's also interesting that nearly all of the OP tier factions are DLC factions.
@@Sarcasmses well a few are FLC... but yeah
of the 19 OP tier factions only 2 are base game and only 2 are FLC. everything else is paid DLC
Well its been pretty clear since WH3 released that the Old factions were going to suffer.
Reason being is that CA doesnt have the cadence to fix issues with old races before they add DLC. Look at the Lizardmen for example. They are clearly stuck in WH2. @@Sarcasmses
@@Eclipsed_Embers i don't think like Changeling need some nerf. It was intendet as fun and cheesy sandbox faction. For example i just wiped out all the evil factions, and tried to help an Empire to grow large and then watch how it will handle ultimate crisis (not very well honestly)
Thank you for bringing up how the Empire Karl Franz campaign is one of of the suggested campaigns for newbies but is actually quite hard for new players. When I first started playing I tried again and again at this campaign to no avail so I ended up quitting warhammer 2 for quite some time until I tried the high elves, changed how I viewed warhammer for sure
I think all empire campiagns are really shit for begginers. I think lizardman/dwarfs/high elfs are more beginner friendly. If you are an rts or totalwar player the empire is fine.
@@happydeathfish2166 Yeah I bought the games (all 3 on sale) and did an Empire Campaign and it was ok I had issues at the start of the campaign with Kazrak(dunno how it's spelled) and Festus but after that my economy/army snowballed and I easily cleared the vampires on normal difficulty but then again I am not new to the Total War Games. Right now I am playing Grimgor and I feel his campaign is overpowered af even on VH difficulty. I feel like Warhammer is a walk in the park compared to Total War Atilla that game is actually hard.
They’re suggested for new players because they are a human faction with a varied and easy to understand roster familiar to historical total war players
Just make more blunderbuss gunners and you'll win against mostly anything.
It was the same in tabletop Warhammer fantasy. They are too cheap and expandable for the desteuction they do.
Me too ive played the empire for newbie but had to play again and again. Until I captured the surrounding provinces it seem like i am going to stand up on my own feet then CHAOS come so i quit 😢
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if you did a Landmark Tier List. Great Video as always!
Great idea! I’d watch the shit out of that
Alith Anar is even more OP in WH3 due to the fact that you can save your lords, so you can play Eltharion campaign, get several lords to rank 10, get them Mistwalker Shadow trait for +50% ambush success chance (and also roll some princess traits for ambush/get ancient cunning for archmages).
Currently playing VH/VH Alith Anar and mistwalker lords for him are such a nice addition that I failed like only 2 or 3 ambushes in 90+ turns.
It feels like cheating using the save/load lords.
@@TheBarser
Except for Daniel.
Loading a Greater Daemon lord isn't cheating for Daniel, it's choosing your faction leader.
the ai doesn't use spells accurately at all, let alone specifics like life magic. Using magic is far more cheating.@@TheBarser
The Dark Elves are that faction that peaked in middle school (Warhammer 2), and never quite reached the same level again.
As it should be, hate them
I know you probably hear this a lot but absolutely thank you for everything you do for the community, doing these tierlists is a lot of work we know, but it certainly helps people decide their next campaign, so thank you again for these tierlists. Would love to see you and Grim Kleaper do a skaven campaign, that would be hilarious. Cheers
As Drycha, I just captured the surrounding settlements in the early game and gave them all to the vampires for a defensive alliance. Then I traveled through the world roots to the next magical forest and did the same, allying whoever was biggest nearby by giving them the trashy settlements that i couldn't take advantage of myself.
She doesn't need to defend her own territory at all if you just do a little diplomacy. Even late into the campaign, Kislev and the Empire were still at war with me, and I didn't even bother keeping an army near my capital, because whoever charged through would generally get distracted with the vamps. Sometimes I would build up an army there, reclaim the borders, and gift them to the vamps again, but that would only take a couple turns.
Personally, I'd rank her alongside the other wood elf factions.
I'd rank her highest. Coeddil and the malevolent branchwraiths shatter morale so easily that manual battles are almost auto resolve
Ability to trade and gift settlements is my favourite addition to WH games. I have played only one campaign so far but that ability was really useful. I played as Kugath and went into Africa to deal with tricky chicken worshippers but moment I started gaining ground Sentinels (TK end game crisis faction) started going straight for me. So instead of fighting on two fronts I just pushed against Kairos and I gifted everything I take to Vampires (who were in war with Sentinels) to slow Sentinels down. For final victory I had to clear sentinels out but Khalida also declared on me and she was one of top factions...so insane numbers of full TK stacks coming for me. My strategy ended up being charging in, taking a few Sentinel towns, selling them to neutral faction and then running into neutral land to heal and then repeating the process until cleared out all Sentinel towns and took black pyramid.
@@drarsen33
In the Drycha playthrough I was mentioning in the initial comment, my favorite part has got to be befriending Malekith. I would take Morathi's settlements, then give them to Malekith. Because I kept making him happy, he eventually started hating Morathi, because he didn't approve of _her_ hostility toward _me._ I watched, turn by turn, as his "disapproves of hostile actions against Morathi's faction" modifier slowly got smaller and smaller, until it turned into "approves of hostile actions against Morathi's faction."
Turns out, taking land from someone's ally and giving it to them makes them care less about the fact that you're attacking their ally.
Drycha is op af.
I just painted the map with no diplomacy, no elves.
No one can stop a treant army !
I do love Archaon's faction traits, the more unification and vassals gained the easier and larger you become. Makes you feel like the true Everchosen.
Same! I just wish he couldn't vassalize order factions. The fact that he can makes it too strong and out of character imo.
@@CJ-wh7ik why out of character? It's like he breaks the nation, and it becomes worshiping chaos
IM THE ONE AND ONLY EVERCHOSEN!!!!
In the lore, he don't vassalize. He unify chaos that are usually fighting each other and it end by winning. Ungrim and Grimgor gave him many problems, but he still won in the end.
Excellent, I will use this as a reference point the next time I'm staring at all the factions, wondering what to play next, right before I start my 4652th campaign as Ikit or Grom.
Opening youtube to check if there is anything to watch while eating and this comes hitting like a truck. Good work legend as always, this week is going great with streams and vids from all sides hope you doin well as well
Love these tier lists, and I'm glad there's more factions in overpowered than in underpowered.
Everyone in Overpowered: "I see no gods up here, other than us!!!"
Then there's Changeling, he is the one above the gods!
The changeling pulling the strings while screaming ‘just as planned.’
Thank you for taking the time to do an updated version of this. I cant imagine how overwhelming this game would be for someone just getting into it now.
took about 300 hours for me to come back to this video and understand everything in it😂
I managed to get my friend to get WH3, we are currently starting as the dwarfs. He’s enjoying but he wants to play as the evil faction next, this list will help him decide which. Thank you
I mean Chaos Dwarfs are evil dwarfs...
Yes.
The chorfs are the capitalist version of the dwarves. 🤣
Daniel really feels like an abandoned faction tbh, heck he is literally the only faction in the game with corruption issues, because unlike *every other faction* his settlements don't actually spread his favored corruption/untainted, which is crucial for his public order, unless you go undivided at which point your provinces finally reach 100 undivided corruption, you can only spread monogod corruption which he doesn't get public order from, even when dedicated to that god.
Honestly it's a shame, i think he legitimately has the most potential out of any faction in the game, but the implementation is just terrible.
yeah, i really really liked the idea of danial and played soon as it came out but yeah, it started to get boring really soon
I think he is better and funnier than what people gave him credit for, but yes, his issues makes him far to be enjoyable as it should be.
Something tells me this is going to be the last best tier list of the year for Total War
Awesome and very useful tier list Legend. Of the factions I played as, I pretty much agree with your scores, so I can use your list to figure out what I want to play next for a bit of extra challenge. So thanks man!
Caravan of blue roses not being top tier is a big surprise for me. With lvl~15-20 caster and a crapstack of Ghorsts op zombies you can kill almost every late game stack AI trows at you, and in first 50 turns just steamroll with no opposition. They also have good start position with no real enemies and everyone around them have other people to fight so you can do whatever you want.
I thought the same. Ghost can easily support several armies of Zombies very early and those zombies will grind down anything in their path. The only disadvantage is that you have to fight a lot manually and you have no true allies close.
100% one of the easiest campaigns on the game
Very valuable to have a full tier list, thanks Legend! Lizardmen are my main faction but i noticed since Shadows of Change the Lustrian Lizardmen always get destroyed by Skaven early on making conquering Lustria way more time consuming and difficult. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this
I found that i enjoy the Vampire Counts most when i only recruit units for a few turns and rely on raise dead to get units afterwards. I get to slowly build up the strength of my armies, and when i find an area where i can raise bigger creatures it's like stumbling upon a treasure. I think the best i got from this was a lucky Mortis Engine by turn 15 or so
Indeed
Yeah the Empire declared war on me they sent a 20 stack to my capital i had a small army with the garrison and i wipe them out, then i could recruit the best units in the vampire roster with the raise dead pool then i got doomstacks filled with crypt horrors grave guards and whatnot and kicked the shit out of everybody around me
I like how the beastmen went from the most boring and weak faction in the game to one of the strongest and the most fun faction in the game
I'd argue with the addition of Yuan Bo and Cursemaster Ostankya Morathi's start got significantly harder. She's also closest to the donut of the dark elves. Every single one of them will be coming hard onto her and her alone as the player. Not to mention Mazdamundi and Sisters are also still nearby.
Also 'Skaven were always a very powerful race." I see Legend's mind blocked out the dark times before Ikit dlc.
Skaven were always plenty powerful in SP their arty was always annoying as fuck they just became legit OP after a few of the DLC’s
Yes the elves are coming hard on Morathi
I felt like The Empire both Gelt and Franz depends a lot on Luck and RNGod. I sometimes get steam roll most major enemies by turn 30-40 but sometime struggle to keep on from the first 10 turns.
Thanks for this - every single one of your "broad overview" type videos is exactly why I came to this channel (though of course the streams and disaster etcs and doomstacks are great too). Watching this made me want to go play another dozen different campaigns, even some I've already thoroughly covered before haha.
Warhammer 3 is by far the best game I’ve ever played. I was addicted to it the day I bought it. I had warhammer 2 downloaded but found out my computer couldn’t handle it. Well, about a year and a half ago I got a computer that could handle it no problem and started playing it and I adored it. I then bought WH3 and I have over 600 hours in it. Just the rich lore, the factions, the strategy. So much to do and learn. Sure it has its problems but those are overshadowed by just how much this game has to offer. By far one of my favorite games of all time.
Love these tier list videos. Just a suggestion/piece of criticism though - it would be very nice to have time stamps in such a long video with markers for the various races. Would make the quality of the video better as sometimes as a viewer you might be curious about specific factions/races.
Can’t wait for whenever the next one is!
What you said about which campaign to play first, that would probably make a good Ranking Tier List video with "Play early", "Play when you are confident" and "Play when you are a Professional".
Or simply "Newbie", "Veteran" and "Champion". The hardest ones you put under "Legend".
The main thing is that easy to play doesn't always mean good for beginners.
Dwarfs and Lizardmen are very easy to play, but I don't think they're good for beginners, because they teach weird lessons about how to play the game.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 Good point.
@@sim.frischh9781I feel like the High Elves are the best faction to start, they have "normal" units with amazing archers and easy start (atleast Tyrion)
Hey Legend, thanks for taking the time to make this video. Excellent review and very informative 👌👌👌
Great video, Legend! My mileage definitely varied compared to some of your assessments, but this is the first time I've actually wanted to play the game since "Let's talk about the Shadows of Change DLC."
This is a nice video to listen in to figure out what faction to play in the evening.
I still think Oxyotl is the most powerful faction. The teleportation and extra money from the extra nearly consequence-free battles makes skink Rambo the best. And legend now liking Throgg is wild.
I love the character and i hope he doesn't get nerfed.
Oxyotl has a very hard start tho, surrounded by enemies, similar to arkhan he black.
Skink Boogeyman. What's crazy about oxys campaign is you can really change the outcome of late game order/chaos balance by wiping out LLs and cities in the early game. Really creates a domino effect that helps ordertide start to snowball
Yesss, I've been waiting for this!
Been waiting for this for so long, thanks so much Legend!
Not only does Arkhan have the best position out of the race's factions, and just plain more units (and they are definitely a good boon in the early game where other Tomb Kings struggle)... but come on, the guy wins on style points alone! Plus he's really the one Tomb Kings character for whom the Books of Nagash mechanic really fully makes sense.
Buffed ghouls are insane. They can slsughter even dwarfs in melee
Love seeing these tier lists, keep up the awesome work!
Really enjoyed this tierlist keep up the grind man hope you're well
I never found Malekiths starting position to be an issue. Many strong enemies result in many battles for him to rank up to lvl 13 quickly, at which point he easily gets 100% bonus from sacking, which stacks with Black Ark and Research to 150%.
You never ever have any money problems with Malekith at this point anymore. He can easily finance any buildings and any troops with that, making him one of the absolute strongest and over powered factions in my opinion.
The problem for new players to realize is that with Malekith you cant capture and build up settlements early on because the enemy will raze them. You must work with only Naggarond for a long time. But at a certain point you absolutely dominate everyone.
I've recently played Malekith on VH for the first time and it was one of the easiest campaigns for me. The only issue was Grombrindal comming from the west turn 5, but other than him, Valkia had pretty friendly disposition (attacked her anyway), Crone have agreed on an alliance quite fast, Taurox was sitting on his starting provience for the whole game, Khatep and Cylostra have agreed on an alliance, because their mountain regions were not worth occupying, only Sigwald was a challenge, but mostly because I was fighting him with only one undeveloped army, other than that nothing was really challenging in that campaign. It might be just a good faction agression rng that I've had, but I would put him at strong tier
You can do the same on Lokhir but a lot better. You can get to tier 5 at turn 20, you can sack small settlements for no less than 10 thousand gold, you can very early hire pirates with rank 9, and you have a ton of buffs for them.
"You cant capture and build up settlements early on because the enemy will raze them. You must work with only Naggarond for a long time."
This is basically you admitting that he's underpowered. Legend said in his video - his criteria for how strong the faction is, is HOW QUICK you can dominate everyone. The fact that he can dominate everyone at some point is not much valid, because if you play right you can at some point dominate everyone with any faction.
@@scream8352 I recently won a L/VH Malekith campaign with Domination Victory turn 88, which is a personal record. I'm also not sure why people think you must work with only Naggarond for a long time, I expanded rapidly.
I just finished a Malekith campaign. Felt very easy to get going. After I killed the Skaven, I caught Valkia very weak fresh out of a battle with Ghrond, so I took over Ghrond and then finish killing valkia and her Vassal. Then onto Grombrindal. I probably had three or four provinces by turn 20. It's really not a bad start
I was kinda in a not great mood this morning, came across this and it made my day. I find these videos really enjoyable and almost reassuring in a weird way. Probably sounds odd, but I appreciate the upload man
I have waited for so long for this, Thank You!!!
There’s an event in Imriks campaign that allows you to automatically confederate caledor pretty early on In the campaign so you get access to isle and play both sides of the map.
Solid work, thanks for that. Helps with orientation what to play. Timestamps for the different races would have been great!
Start of the vid; predicting Caravan of the Blue Roses is S tier. I've been playing TW since Rome II came out but I've always played on normal. I found Ghorst so OP that I tried him on legendary and there was absolutely no noticeable change. Only thing I found tough in that campaign was dealing with how annoying the "battle realism" camera is
I just finished a Malekith campaign. I can't see where you think he's weak. Once Valkia and Grombrindal are taken out he's left with a wealthy and very safe area to expand from. Personally I felt it was one of the easier and stronger campaigns I've tried recently
I would put Skarsnik under "Strong" at least. His upkeep reduction for Goblins is massive therefore you can pump out a lot of armies even early on.
Agree, the goblintide is real.
I actually think skipping orcs is the most optimal way to play greenskins. I would say he actually one of the strongest because you can have more armies. But he does kind suck as LL, he is pretty weak.
Nurgle is a super strong race, the only difficulty is to kill Ghorst, after that it's just a machine to sweep away everyone in its path and control a huge map.
Resources increase the cap of heroes, which allows you to create many strong armies that can crush even Legendary heroes with using plague mechanic across whole map.
Interestingly, even now many professional warhammer players have not unlocked the gigantic potential of this race.
(just in case, my judgment is from playing Legendary\VH even before the AI aggressiveness was nerfed).
love your tier lists dude, keep them coming!
I found that playing the golden order you need to rush to get to karak izor to then trade it for a defensive alliance with clan argrund
From there is a bit of your choice to focus the empire or going south.
GIVE BRETONNIA THEIR WALLS
Let's go! Another Tier list video. Cheers mate!
Interesting that you have Mannfred over Vlad/Isabella, I find having Drakenoff and essentially a doomstack in Vladabella on turn 1 to be OP.
That being said if anyone finds Vampire Counts uninteresting; I highly recommend playing an Isabella campaign and attempting to be friendly with the empire. Make a vampire hero doomstack, break your treaties with Heimrich/Red Duke as soon as its not treacherous (turn 5). Join reiklands wars without asking for money, get Vlads diplomacy skill and the one in the tech tree. Extremely fun way to approach an otherwise easy and straight forward campaign. 👍
Morathi isn't thay bad. You just need 1 cult of pleasure building in a main settlement and spend slaves regularly to have them around 2000 to take care of public order on very hard on regions, that aren't uninhabitable, but then you can just place a random lord to babysit it, which you can afford, because while slave economy doesn't produce millions per turn, it still produces fat stacks and with Morathi, she produces even more than enough to fund your army, which is mostly discounted black arcs, which thrive even more with the nerfed local recruitment. With new slave mechanic you can get tier 5 buildings very quickly, so Morathi even with nerfed quintex sanctuary does quite good in early-midgame. It's even better without Alith Anar as a neighbour, with Mazdamundi with a nonaggression pact and with high elves focussing on Noctilius and Nkari, she can focus on 1 front, which is towards Malekith and her short campaign target. Also she can reach all the legendary lords very early with sea gateways. Sure dark elves aren't as braindead as in tww2, but I'd still put mommy at strong
Lokhir is funny to me because in WH2 his start was brutal and only got more brutal with each DLC.
trying to get info out, bottlenecking for a sec, and just waving the mouse at skarsnick @21:39 cracked me up
always nice to listen to legend tierlists in the background while working! Pretty much agree with the rating of everything haha! tho maybe would have put vlad and isabella on overpowered. because I'm playing a "hero only" campaign on legendary with isabella now and so far it wasn't really a challenge at all. (it is quite fun tho conquering the world with about 16 vampires at turn 60 or so tho XD)
Quality personal touch on the Manscaped plug. I always get a laugh.
Two remarks:
1. your bell curve is very fat at the strong/op end (your mean is at Kairos' position), which means your tier categories might need an adjustment. Maybe your strong category should be considered average and a new category oughta exist between strong and op (for factions like Itza and N'kari for instance).
2. I find myself invincible with Kugath Plaguefather pretty early on. Even though they are slow, you can muster a very resilient army pretty fast with plaguebearers and a few regen-skilled heroes. Even Kugath's Nurglings are quickly pinning units like Ironbreakers and Slayers long enough for other units to reinforce them after they routed the rest of the army. The recruitment pool also gets really big really fast; which means, as long as you have a good economy, you can summon a full army on the fly.
The plagues intended for enemies are pretty worthless though.
i played orion recently, havent played him since wh2. I could not believe how powerful great stag knights are now. They just rolled over everything. His wild hunt mechanic is pretty cool now too
Excellent review, I would probably agree to all of those to be honest. Some of the lower ones can still get very powerful but you definitely have to work hard for it.
About dwarves being Busted in autosresolve, can confirm I'm currently dealing with a vermintide end game crisis and am barely able to manually fight them. Dwarves don't really have a good way to shut down weapons teams (the only thing that work ok are rangers/quarellers), but auto resolve is able to handle it reasonably well. I'm finally wising up and making outposts to recruit some allied calvalry but untill that's done it's autoresolve cheese
Daniel as AI always hammers Norsca and everything north of Norsca so I see him as S tier enemy, but bad playable Lord. It is also very interesting to see him different looking every time.
Would love some more general tips videos e.g you give some examples in passing of how to confederate easily. There's lots of this in your Let's Play stuff, would be great to see all these tips collated together for a general campaign advice video
The only one I think you got 100% wrong is Boris Ursus. He is much stronger than Kat or Kost. He has the freedom to abandon his start and go south, settle in the mountains by Azhag or anywhere else, confederate the Kislev factions without the supporter mechanic stopping them, has only half-yellow climate to chaos wastes so he can settle them with near full income, and generally has the freedom to play as you want him to.
I agree with Kislev at this ranking, but before 4.0.0 I would have rated them as bad, Kostaltyn maybe average.
But since they now have extra settlements, invocation of dazh working again, and walled + more building slots settlements, I think they have become stronger/strong enough.
But Ice magic is mediocre. With their 1 settlement provinces it takes a while for them to start getting to their better units (i dont have the dlc). And their economy really scales with more settlements.
But its still shite if you get sandwiched declared on by Thrott, Azagh and Drycha. Considering drycha can bring 5 treekin with 20% wardsave 15 % phys resist and 15 % missle resist on turn 10 while you have nothing aside from weak ass snow leopard, winged lancers and some kossars. Ice Guard early game dont feel very good
I don't agree with Bretonnia being average, I would place them as bad right now. I would even say Carcasonne is underpowerd. Half their techtree is occupied by confed techs that are all useless by turn 8-10
Specially Carcasonne has 0 room for expansion, with Grom and WE and Beastmen right out conquering your 3 next provinces and Ikit claw practically bordering you aswell. You cant declare on WE because of reliability issues, you cant declare on paravon because of chivalry issues, grom outrecruits you and your confed techs are pointless up until couronne and bordeleaux.
Your economy relies on 2 buildings , you cant recruit from anything other than farms and military buildings thanks to all those 2 settlement provinces with very limited building slots. It takes at least 3 or 4 turns to get your first cav, which Fay cant recruit without upkeep penalties right away (p.s. Grail Guardians still have 500 upkeep per turn with her? wtf...)
Ikit claw is 1 turn jump away from you with instant 2 stacks and a nuke. While you can only recruit men at arms and bowmen..
And your infantry has 0 holding power, what are foot squires even doing on tier 4 (and take 2 turns to recruit?). Bretonnia is a joke atm.
12:17 'GROWTH ISSUE??!! ITS GOING IN THE BOOK!'
Only one I have a real disagreement with is regarding Crone Hellebron. It is quite easy to just trade the start orcs settlements to Sigvald for an alliance and an entire flank you need not worry about, keeping Blood Voyage at high gives a huge control bonus and baits elf lords to sea to feed on. I never had any issues with control on very hard. Being able to recruit shades at turn 2 allowed me to snowball very well and she is a strong lord with regen.
I find your usage of the term pounding down several times in your description of Skarbrand as a Slaneesh insult. Definitely better served when you described Tlaqua as such, I had a blast running around with a full aerial stack farming pirate islands and just dropping bombs on all the range and "pounding them down" then mopping up the rest. Really fun slapping Mannfred's shit quick too as there is piss all he can do about it.
Great list I will be sure to use for reference when I am wanting either a challenge or to be an OP bastard. Not buying the DLC until its at least 15 at minimum though. CA put their reliability level to very low and their response put them in the book of grudges in one fell swoop. They have wronged us!
I really agree with Reikland. I can never get them started, I get surrounded fast and it's just a grind for like 50 turns.
One nice thing about Belegar is he provides some substantial buffs to your army under siege for the whole faction. Add onto that tech buffs that do the same thing and suddenly my settlements were basically impossible to take from the enemy. The game really favors armor and leadership in auto resolve, and I had simple unwalled garrisons able to defend against entire skaven armies.
I never bought WHIII but enjoyed Legend during WHII days so still drop in for his tier lists.
The fact that Tomb Kings never got any dlc or flc and they all have this shitty Book of nagash mechanic they now also share with Vlad and Volkmar is mindbogling... They need a few better Units, Tomb Swarms, Tomb Guard or nehekaran Archers etc. Tomb Prinzess needs access to Warsphinx mounts and for goods sake, make some confederations and a more fun and modern kampaign mechanic. Khalida is still this Duellist Lord that is not a duellist..
You sell the Orthodoxy short. Getting 20% Ward Save for embedded Patriarchs is insanely strong and it is ridiculously easy to get more.
Being almost guaranteed to win the supporter race does help as well. (Frost Maidens only getting capacity at Tier 5)
But I also already have a butt load of saved Ice Witches already. (With +1 Patriarch capacity)
26:50 In Realms of Chaos (WH3 campaign) playing on Legendary Kislev (Ice court in my case) is really a Pain in the Ass. Early game is easily but when you start the middle and late game is The End of Times, you are literally alone against the world. In south the empire falls on VC and Ogres "my lord" very early, east at first you have orcs but later you will have all the Chaos Dwarf calling on your door, north you have norses, WoC and daemons and west you have Daniel and more norses and WoC.
Later I test Kislev in Immortal empires and was... more friendly campaign :D
I enjoy how you did your tier list referring to the average player because everyone has a main faction they enjoy and know really hence they can dominate the AI even on legendary difficulties even if that faction is harder for a majority of players.
Also amazing a tier list that doesn’t trash ogres!
You’re the best Warhammer content creator in terms of skill and consistency
Yeeeeah, Cult of Sotek being able to just endlessly spawn Blessed Temple Guard for free is ridiculous.
I reached a point in my IE campaign where I mostly just banked sacrifices to give new armies a solid chunk of 6-8 Blessed Temple Guards as their standard core infantry. I'd have Red Crested Skinks for flanking, usually 2-3 Cold One units to flank around and deal with siege weapons or ranged units, and various flavors of Stegadons as my monster units, but most armies have a tough time cracking 8 Blessed Temple Guard as the core infantry.
the caravan of blue roses is pretty overpowered in my mind. you can just spam zombies and research te coresponding techs and have basicly immortal zomboes and life sucking mortis engine and two necromancer with balefire coprs card and the Bell corps card mounts. andyou can start with that tactic from turn one. the only problem can be arty but even than you can have one flying unit to take care of that.
agree on that, when you got the unique skill line the buffs zombies then you can just crapstack and flood the world with zombies, then some flying vampire to deal with the arty and still you can get them back pretty easyly with the increased healing cap at the end of the battle, also you can get them everywere
I watched this video when I first bought the game and now I have about 300 hours.
My opinions have changed greatly, and I think my Over Powered would look like this:
1. Vampire Counts (any except Kemmler) - super strong, can remake whole armies lost after a battle, no thought or strategy really needed to play them.
2. Greenskins (Skarsnik, Grom, and Wurrzag) - Pop a Waaagh! And it’s too easy. Took over the Empire as Wurrzag under turn 60.
3. Boris Ursus - Really OP. You can prioritize Archaeon and become alpha daddy of the north. Or you can move back down to Norsca, confederate Praag, take over Chaos Dwarves, destroy Skaven, or move into the rest of Norsca. I’ve played Boris’s campaign a ton of times and just took it so many ways. Towards Cathay, towards Ulthuan, towards Khemri.
4. Lizardmen - Just way too op. Oxyotl is fun and really broken. Lord Kroak is basically unkillable and you can get laser blasting stegladons of death.
5. Skaven - Overwhelm easily, like vampire counts, and Ikit is broken. The nuke really has no place in this game imo.
I’d say every other LL falls below the ones in the factions above. Alith Anar and Eltharion are cool and all but I don’t see them as S tier. S tier to me is: a player can be drunk and high and still succeed with the faction relatively easily. I really like wood elves but they require a lot of thought and planning to be successful with. Same with Cathay and dwarves to an extent.
I agree that the Dark elves slave mechanic still sucks balls but since they removed the limit cap on them and you can just keep stacking them I've really had no real problem with public order ever, i just use a bit of slaves in every province that needs It and that's It, sword of khaine or not I've had almost no issues with rebelions outside of perhaps really early turns.
I am a bit biased because I play Death Guard in 40k but I like Nurgle in TWW. It's kinda lore accurate to be slow to start and if you play it right and eliminate Ghorst's first army early, then you're set for the rest of the campaign IMO.
Personally, they just need to tweak the plagues to give more buffs to your own settlements or something like that and maybe they should let you have Tier 5 settlements in Ogre regions idk
idk it feels to me like plagues are super strong. Just something like full vanguard for your entire army, or +20% physical resist with Nurgle's Rot, even though you get more than just that, is insane. Another strong aspect of Nurgle is the ability to just summon an entire army (albeit half hp) in one turn. Their towers are also super strong. They have a lot going for them, but their start position isn't great.
I've only waited a year for this lol about time legend
The best campaign I've had with nurgle on very hard/very hard, I crushed Heinrick Kemler per your guide, then gave away all the territory outside the starter province to the chaos dwarves and sailed south, took the elf islands, then took the southern chaos wastes off Tzeench. Skipped all the awful territory and none of the other factions ever bothered me
I bought a Handyman from the AU Manscaped store because of this video. Also the Total War Warhammer 3 content was good.
I actually Kind of like the imperial authority mechanic for the empire and I hope they keep it, I also hope they re-work it. Make it a bit more interesting. However, the sheer amount of enemies you face (Legend actually missed 2 here, as Heinrich Kemmler will cross the vault mountains like Hannibal and come kick your ass once they finish flexing on Marienburg, and Skrag will also just migrate up and party in your cities. In one game, I had to go across into Brettonia as Ikit claw, Kemmler and Belakor all declared war on me (as Karl Franz) within the first 30 turns. I retook Brettonia, gave them to the Enchantress to hold for me, then ran back, only to see that Kislev was dead (conquered by Drycha and Vlad), Vlad owned a third of the empire, drycha about 20%, Festus about 20%, and Skrag owned the last 20%. Only Reikland was still under my control. I actually got the civil war event, but all the empire was dead, so It didn't matter.
I’ve been waiting a year for this
I really thought you would wait for at least the next DLC before doing the strength ranking. Nice surprise.
I disagree with Boris Ursus being under-powered. He is very good and you can play his start any number of ways. Just leave the north and head south. I took Sylvania and basically wreaked havoc on the greenskins to the east and pushed towards Cathay and the north.
He has a very fun campaign.
I also disagree with Skarsnik. You can have three armies with waaagh by turn 25 and you’re basically clearing out three different fronts.
As Boris Ursus, I just head straight to Praag and occupy it nice and quickly. Perfect Campaign when the other two legendary lords have your back at least for the first 50 turns
The amount of experience and knowledge in the creation of this list is just insane!
Another detriment for dwarves is that in order to really get your economy rolling you really need the income technologies and the resource buildings
"The number of enemies in Cathay is not that bad".
Me, looking at my (modded) Cathay map where Grimgor, Vilich, Zhatan, Kugath, Nakai, Lokhir, Snikch, and for some weird reason Imrik, decided to make a joint invasion of China:
Yeah, it's fine!
Amazing, thank you for making these lists! They're great help!
my top 3 are Ikit claw , Chaos Dwarfs and Khorne...
Khorne just slapps with his melee buffs and the other 2 can build tier 5 settlements asap everywhere
My Khorne campaign has been running -25k for last 40 turns with just mass amount of blood host. A good riot.
That’s funny, I played Malekith and thought he had some hilarious op options. Just use ambush and the ambush commandment with a second lord in your home system and use it to lure everyone to your south. Declare war on them and have them just run into your 100% ambush or naggarrond with a black ark and alliance garrison. Take the north, and gift settlements to Har Ganeth to get an alliance and suicide Helebron into sigvauld to confederate them quickly. Naggarrond seems very difficult to take, it’s also right next the next province with small approach angles making it very abusable to use the garrison and a black ark army with a 100% ambush.
I would put an asterisk over Warriors of Chaos that Legend doesn't talk about in the video: WoC is indeed very strong, however, I find that they fall off quite hard in the late-game. Mind you, Legend doesn't usually play campaigns for very long, because he just steamrolls everyone and goes "Alright then, next.", but if you actually play them at length and end up going up against end-game crisis factions, you will find them lacking because of their wonky recruitment.
They are the only faction in the game that straight up CANNOT recruit their best units whenever they want, no matter what. Tomb Kings can get them if they build tier 5 cities (lmao), Chorfs can get them if they have weapons, Beastmen can get them if they have enough caps, but WoC is stuck recruting tier 3 units for the rest of the campaign, other than a few offering units sprinkled in here and there (which have a hard cap on them /army). This makes their late game outright trash, because to raise a new army of not marauders, you need to recruit a few lords across different provinces then bring them together with the precious few chaos knights and warriors you could scrape together, THEN you need to level up those guys to rank 7 so you can FINALLY turn them into actual late-game units.
This limitation isn't a problem early, but the longer you go, the more painful it becomes. CWs and Knights just DO NOT stack up well against Tier 4-5 armies, especially if those are also end-game crisis units. Every other faction by that stage of the game can print tier 4-5 units en masse, so any faction that cannot do this better have something to compensate. (Such as Chorf units being insanely broken and Beastmen being Beastmen).
I would say Legend oversells WoC for the average player... unless every single army of yours is just a spam of Aspiring Champions, but that's boring af.
hmm I hadn't considered this... good point
Just get Khorne minotaurs with Valkya and it's over. 😆
Wow, that's by far the best ballshaving advertisment I ever saw... And I went to New Jersey...
But seriously. Would you fancy to make a stealth units and/or stealth tactics tier list ? Why Snikch overcomes Oxyotl, does shadow walkers beat shades, are dwarfs rangers likely to survive against elven waywatchers, are nasty skulkers the best level 1 stealth unit, or is that ungor raiders, that kind of things... That seems to lack in your otherwise very impressive videos arsenal...
