I love the Five seveN and the p90 from an engineering perspective. I know a lot a people dislike the 5.7 round, but personally I wish they had been more widely adopted. Great video btw.
The thing I like about a Mag release safety is if someone is attempting to take it from you from behind or whatever & it feels like you are loosing, you can drop the mag and know the guy will not shoot you with your own gun.
I had one of these; but sold it out of needing money. I was easily hitting 8 inch targets at 200m using the pistol with adjustable sights. It can attract some attention on the range when people notice your doing that.
The US Secret Service uses the FN P90. One of the main reasons is because it will not over penatrate. The round is bottle necked. It tumbles upon impact, ripping apart tissue and organs.
i believe that if the slide is locked back. And you insert a mag with 1 or more bullets the slide releases, and thats why it has such a high pressure on the slide lock.
Got mine Friday. Took it to the range today (Saturday). I shot 40 rounds without a hiccup with the FN and 66 rounds with the Smith & Wesson 5.7. without a single problem. The FN shot more accurately. But, the FN comes with better sights than the S&W. My plan is to install Hi Viz sights on both my S&W 5.7 and my S&W 22 mag. I have a Holosun 507 that is now resting in its box. I had trouble adjusting it. My best shooting has been with iron sights so far, but I am a novice when it comes to shooting pistols.
I like the trigger on my 57 a little long but crisp and light. Not a 1911 trigger but it does just fine. I love how people hate on the 5.7 when they have never shot one. I love mine and would use it over any 9mm. It's nice to know you can engage a target at extremely far distances with a pistol. If you can put the sights on it, you more then likely gonna put rounds on it, that simple.
Question. what i know from 5.7 ammunition - the ones the gun is named after - why did you pick this to take to a park to ensure the safety of your family? Wouldn't something a bit more conventional suit you better? simply curious.
I own some rifles but no hand guns yet but this is one I would love to own. Do you have a shop where you sells these out of if so where are you located ?
What a deal man! I wish I would have bought one a few years ago. I'm thinking about getting an AR57 upper with a 6" barrel. I really like this caliber.
Depends which rounds you buy, the armor piercing military ones are illegal everywhere as far as I know, but they have civilian ones that don't have the armor piercing tip.
Hey bud, love your review, i have this gun , the gen2 like yours, everything you said about this gun is true. you could have mentioned camping and hiking purposes too , very lightweight and high capacity makes for a great outdoors gun. for the gentleman that wondered about the trigger reset, this gun has a very good reset.
You said that the ammo is readily available? I heard it pretty difficult to find ammo? DO other companies also make 5.7 ammo or do you have to buy all ammo from FN? Sorry for all the questions... very interested and new to this gun
@MrUtubegunner Its very hard to explain cause the trigger is not a DA/SA but its also no a typical DAO trigger. As you can see when the gun is rack back the triggers has a SA like trigger pull but it also has a heavy trigger. Its a good trigger for what it is but Its a very weird system.
The FN FiveSeven is LEGAL to own, at least for certain in California. CA has a handgun roster list, and the FiveSeven is listed by name on it, as well as date (meaning it's approved at least until April 2014, the date listed). The SS190 AP ammo IS (I repeat IS) legal to own, however, FN, by their own accord, restricts the supply. AP ammo has a legal definition that is NOT "will this go through XYZ" but is determined by the composition and weight of the metals in the bullet itself.
i wonder if this round could fit some revolver. what are the measure specs for that round most closest to? yup just looked itt up: this would work in .32 revolver if it had a long enough cylinder and the cylinder chambers were to fit the round, either way that would be nice to see one day
Great Review, thank you. Have had mine about the same amount of time. Who did your Trijicon night sights? This is the only pistol I have with out them and want to put some on.
5:00 thats because your not actually supposed to drop the slidestop to chamber the first round. Its sayd to be hard on the firearm after continued use. It shears the slidestop * to an extent Your supposed to "power stroke" the slide instead. AKA once the new mag is slapped home, grip the back of the slide and pull back a bit, causing the slidestop to disengage without any rough effect. Makes sense if you think of it.. i just dont know how bad it truly is to drop the slidestop.
@AuJusGravy The ammo is not that cheap at all. It cost slightly more than what you pay for 223 now days. I would say the plus to getting this pistol is that you'll shoot it more than the AR.
Good job with review, a lot of the things you dont like is your personal preference. I have one and i love it, this is the gun i carry now i have an HK45, Glock 40, Springfield XD45 and i prefer the 5 7 over the other ones. Just my two cents. Great Job on the review you cover all the details.
At 8:45 you say, Whether it's a beast, whether it's a human, whether it's... whatever the case may be. It's plenty powerful, trust me." What beasts have you shot? I've shot three deer with my five-seven and I was NOT impressed with the results.
I heard that the FN Five-seven's rounds can penetrate trough some levels of kevlar and even armored plates, so will the actually sell this to you as the would with a 9mm or a .22? or does it need a special permit? I live in california, and I've seen people carrying even ARs on their backs, so I don't know if it is easier here than in other states, or if its the same everywhere.
Hold on. Are you saying the Armor Piercing ammunition is legal to own, provided FN chooses to sell to you? Or are you saying they only restrict the quantity of it? And if it's the former, what do they look for in a potential buyer that might persuade them to sell AP ammo to a civilian?
Cool, those ballistic tipped civ rounds address the over penetration factor that's a negative in a self defense scenario. Aside from a 1911, I'd love to own one of these.
I just filled out my paperwork for one yesterday & it has fixed sights, The dealer said it could take up to 6 weeks to get one ordered. I kinda feel like he was lying to me to move his inventory but I have no way to prove that? Anyway, I would have ordered it with the fixed night sites if I went that route. The target sites never impressed me on any pistol, just my personal choice.
Quick question: why is it on some guns the recoil spring is on the barrel and on some there is a separate guide rod. And what would be the specific advantages of a separate rod?
this round was DESIGNED for armor penetration. it's light but very high velocity. force = mass x acceleration, or in this case deceleration. if it's going very fast and is forced to stop very quick, it'll have exert a lot of force regardless of weight. look at the difference between .22LR and .223, you can use 40gr .22 subsonics or 40gr .223 varmint loads to VASTLY different effect... i dont think anyone's ever complained about being shot by a lighter round.
the biggest advantage apart from weight accuracy, is the piss easy field strip low maintenance easy clean, a weapon always available for use instead of having to take apart more than one part to keep it maintained
I liked your review, just a small suggestion. If a pistol does not have a good reset it can be the difference in making or breaking the purchase , maybe in future reviews you can try and give us a taste of what the reset is like on whatever particular firearm you are reviewing. Anyways good review man.
What do you think of this ammo? Its 27 grain? Many pellets for pellet guns are around 27 grain? I know its traveling at an incredible speed but do you think this 27 to 40 grain ammo packs enough punch to be a good self defense round? Since many bad guys these days are wearing armor during home invasions, what do you think of the armor penetrating capabilities of this round? Will the standard 5.7 round penetrate armor? Or do you need specialty rounds? Penetrating rounds limited to LEO?
The slide release may be like my kimber, it is very hard to release when the mag is out of the gun, or if the mag is empty. Try using the slide release when the mag is loaded and see how that feels for ya.
From my understanding the trigger going from light to heavy was a "safety" idea of being able to have your finger depressing the trigger but not firing so you have a few seconds to decide to fire or not like you said ive never seen that in another gun and on paper i agree with it but in combat when i decide to depress the trigger ive already made the choice to fire
Anyone who has never fired the Five Seven needs to go out and fire one right now. I love this gun. I don't own one but in my opinion its the Cadillac of handguns.
i bought one of those 5.7 and i having a lot a problems with it, it is brand new and feed jams a lot, and sometimes i have to pull the action to release the fired shell, looks like the ammo don't have enough power to pull the action all the way back i bought 4 boxes of ammo and sometimes it fires 8 of ten bullets with no problem, but sometimes fires only 1 of ten
mine is doing that with the original barrel, and i thought that might be the problem, so i ordered a new one from jarvis, but still in back order, is this the same brand you ordered? if so i will cancel my order due they havent charge me yet......thanks for the help
The gun is light, but my brother (an army vet) said the barrel is heavy. but after firing it, it actually compensated for the recoil. perfect gun
I have a FN five-seven … rounds can be pricey but the accuracy is very good
Major thumbs up for the Metal Gear 4 intro music!!!
I love the Five seveN and the p90 from an engineering perspective. I know a lot a people dislike the 5.7 round, but personally I wish they had been more widely adopted. Great video btw.
3:48 If the adjustable sights were causing the gun to hit left and low, why not just adjust the adjustable sights right and high?
A lot of people have said that the adjustables move around so you constantly have to adjust them
they make them now in all shapes and forms I had to use one for an hnk p30 and it worked for me.
i can't wait to get my five seven
The thing I like about a Mag release safety is if someone is attempting to take it from you from behind or whatever & it feels like you are loosing, you can drop the mag and know the guy will not shoot you with your own gun.
If only FN would make this in a compact model I would ditch my pps. I love this gun! Good review.
I will own one SOON! A very effective weapon!
Jeremy Mine should I be concerned or naw ?
@@datitsdapussy4283 lol
that metal gear solidsong though
I had one of these; but sold it out of needing money. I was easily hitting 8 inch targets at 200m using the pistol with adjustable sights. It can attract some attention on the range when people notice your doing that.

The FN57 is so sexy
i believe that if the slide is locked back. And you insert a mag with 1 or more bullets the slide releases, and thats why it has such a high pressure on the slide lock.
I used to pick this gun a lot while playing Counter Strike as a kid. Awesome review, thanks a lot! ;)
@PoweredByHotshot
The p229 and the Five-seveN will most certainly be a nice addition to any safe.
Essa bela obra merece respeito.
É uma verdadeira máquina .
I love, love, love, this firearm. too bad I have to wait all the way until tax time to buy this expensive thing.
Excellent review!

beautiful weapon
i was already a big fan of your videos, then you hit me with that MGS4 music, my man!
I like the trigger on my 57 a little long but crisp and light. Not a 1911 trigger but it does just fine. I love how people hate on the 5.7 when they have never shot one. @VsixtyFive
Now that is a very good Idea. I would love to have this in more compact package.

Excellent review and spot on description
Always has been one of my favorites
Question. what i know from 5.7 ammunition - the ones the gun is named after - why did you pick this to take to a park to ensure the safety of your family? Wouldn't something a bit more conventional suit you better? simply curious.
Excellent review man. Thanks.
i fired this weapon at a friends house once and it was absolutely fantastic. No wonder Sam Fisher prefers it ;)
The trigger is like that because it's a safety feature, as this weapon was designed for the military if I recall.
I own some rifles but no hand guns yet but this is one I would love to own. Do you have a shop where you sells these out of if so where are you located ?
What a deal man! I wish I would have bought one a few years ago. I'm thinking about getting an AR57 upper with a 6" barrel. I really like this caliber.
the first models of the 5.7 looked soo badass.
Depends which rounds you buy, the armor piercing military ones are illegal everywhere as far as I know, but they have civilian ones that don't have the armor piercing tip.
FINALLY a review from the lefty perspective! I was beginning to think south-paws were a dying breed....
Have twelve handguns, the FNH 5.7 is my best shooting handgun all around. I like everything about the 5.7 , then my 40 glock 23
The Five-seveN shown in this video is an "original" (also known as USG or MK1)
*****
actually you are incorrect they have a version before this..I thought the same thing ..
You said that the ammo is readily available? I heard it pretty difficult to find ammo? DO other companies also make 5.7 ammo or do you have to buy all ammo from FN? Sorry for all the questions... very interested and new to this gun
that's a really nice piece I own the carbine model and love the hell out of it been thinking about grabbing the pistol for a while
@MrUtubegunner
Its very hard to explain cause the trigger is not a DA/SA but its also no a typical DAO trigger. As you can see when the gun is rack back the triggers has a SA like trigger pull but it also has a heavy trigger. Its a good trigger for what it is but Its a very weird system.

Could you please link where you purchased the trijicon night sights for the 5/7N? Per my conversations with trijicon..they do not make them. Thanks!
You said about the ammo its readily available ? Do they sell this ammo in bulk for a decent price ?
At 4:05, did you ever try adjusting the sights a little left and down?
i wonder if this round could fit some revolver.
what are the measure specs for that round most closest to?
yup just looked itt up: this would work in .32 revolver if it had a long enough cylinder and the cylinder chambers were to fit the round, either way that would be nice to see one day
thanks definitely going to be my first handgun
Great Review, thank you. Have had mine about the same amount of time. Who did your Trijicon night sights? This is the only pistol I have with out them and want to put some on.
The slide release was designed to be used after you insert a loaded magazine. Great vid
the best gun around period!!!!
5:00

Wanted to add that in Milwaukee, WI I only found one "store run" dealer who sells FN & he only had the one 5-7 I purchased.
This is a very good review. I think I'm going to get one of these.
Good job with review, a lot of the things you dont like is your personal preference. I have one and i love it, this is the gun i carry now i have an HK45, Glock 40,
Springfield XD45 and i prefer the 5 7 over the other ones. Just my two cents.
Great Job on the review you cover all the details.
LOL did you say you took it to Disney Parks??
Guess it's easily concealable lol I heard Disney lol

Nice review, I'm considering picking one of this up to go along w/a FN P90... Twin set

So do I, need to go back and play it again.
the ammo is legal to own but not to have loaded in the gun. it can be legally fired on the fnar or the ps90 which is a rifle at least in my state fl
Thank you for the explanation sir. I appreciated the details.
Cool, those ballistic tipped civ rounds address the over penetration factor that's a negative in a self defense scenario. Aside from a 1911, I'd love to own one of these.

@micromanish thank you, but just wondering, do you order your ammo or do you have a place nearby were you get it
such a pretty gun tbh
Quick question: why is it on some guns the recoil spring is on the barrel and on some there is a separate guide rod. And what would be the specific advantages of a separate rod?
Very nice and informative video, will definitely use this info when shopping for edc down the road. Any suggestions you could make to me for options?
Ar500 level iii body armor is not restricted for civilian sale
great video, you seem very knowledgeable about it. very beautiful gun
@773steve
Cdnnsports has them for 998 all other places range from 1099 to 1199 or more for the diferent collors

Great review... Thanks for the video!
This is a well designed pistol.. Its lush!
Would have this or a Walther p99...
Very good FN ...
Do they have a conceal carry holster for it? How long is the gun?
the biggest advantage apart from weight accuracy, is the piss easy field strip low maintenance easy clean, a weapon always available for use instead of having to take apart more than one part to keep it maintained
Will all 5.7 rounds penetrate body armor? I thought the penetrating rounds were reserved for Leo??
I liked your review, just a small suggestion. So could i get one as a 20 year old in Canada. Assuming i Have my Restricted weapons license that allows me to purchase and own handguns.
I've fired this pistol using the SS198LF at one of our old v
the song of the beginning is from metal gear solid 4 nice selection of song for a great pistol.
can you have a series of different rounds in the mag? All 5.7 of course, but 1 ball round, followed by a ballistic round etc. ?
From my understanding the trigger going from light to heavy was a "safety" idea of being able to have your finger depressing the trigger but not firing so you have a few seconds to decide to fire or not like you said ive never seen that in another gun and on paper i agree with it but in combat when i decide to depress the trigger ive already made the choice to fire
357sig for me. RBCD ammo. 60gr @ 2410fps from a Glock 32
357sig, Definitely one of the most wicked round there is period. Solidifies flesh, can't picked up nor be sawn together.
+Tummun yes indeed
n300zx931 yes brother g32 is my favorite round & pistol
Sportsmansguide has 500 rounds for 180 bucks or 50 rounds for 19.45
firepower from my country Belgium. our guns rock

most fivesevens i see on the market are around 1000 thought about getting one and using it as a concealed weapon actually
How much do you pay for the ammo in your city? In my city, it's one of the most expensive calibers to buy handgun ammo for except for .454 and .500!
What kind of rounds for this are armor piercing (american eagle ) ?
Love the mgs4 music at the beginning!
I have two Glock 20s. How do this gun compare with those power handguns. Plus I want to buy one more handgun; would this gun be a great choice?
mine is doing that with the original barrel, and i thought that might be the problem, so i ordered a new one from jarvis, but still in back order, is this the same brand you ordered? if so i will cancel my order due they havent charge me yet......thanks for the help
