Thanks for sharing. I would suggest adding a "Y" bracket to accept the gate latch. It could be as simple as 2 pieces of flat bar bent up for the top and bent down for the bottom piece. Weld a tab for bolting to the post, or drill and tap for bolting to the bracket itself. If you want to get fancy make a bracket with a 2 inch wheel/roller mounted to the gate-set with assumption that the gate could be 1" low and it would ride up a metal guide. The rollers used in dryers on which the drum rolls are perfect for this-and perhaps free.
