In this video, we explain how India is becoming a manufacturing hub and competing with China over its position as the world's factory. The video discusses the factors that led to China's manufacturing boom, such as their open-door policy and special economic zones. It also highlights India's progress in manufacturing, particularly in sectors like electronics and smartphones. The government's initiatives like Make in India and Production Link Incentives (PLI) have significantly boosted manufacturing in India. Watch the video to learn more about India's manufacturing sector.

I was in Singapore recently and in discussion with a German manufacturing company, which wanted to make it big in Asia. Unfortunately, they had a very negative view of India.
As per them, India has no appreciation for quality. Suppliers in India are looking for under engineered sub-standard products. The company shelves its plan to set up a manufacturing plant in India and is now shutting its office in Mumbai. This was an eye-opening experience for me. The company has decided to put a plant in Malaysia.

India continues to compare itself to China, while China has always been comparing itself to the United States. Different goals lead to different perspectives. China's manufacturing capacity already surpasses the combined total of the United States, the European Union, and Japan. Its electricity generation is twice that of the United States, and its shipbuilding industry is 200 times larger. China is currently undergoing transformation and upgrades, shifting labor-intensive industries to countries like Vietnam. Best wishes to India.

I'm Chinese. As we all know, the United States is still the most powerful country in the world, but India is the largest democracy in the world. Indians and Jews are known as the best people in the world, and China's economy has collapsed since 2000. More and more Chinese people are returning to the countryside from cities, and worse, China is Subjected to sanctions by the United States and Europe, it is believed that it will not be long before China will change from an industrial country to an agricultural country. At the same time, India's population has surpassed that of China, and Indians are younger. We expect that India will become the number one in the world in 2040 and belong to India in the 21st century. I am a senior commentator of the Strategic Huyou Bureau of the People's Republic of China(中国战忽局CZHJ). Please believe my argument.

"There's a confusion about China, the popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labour cost. I'm not sure what part of China they go to, but the truth is, China stopped being the low-labour-cost-country many years ago. That is not the reason to come to China from a supply point of view. The reason is because of the skill and the quantity of skill in one location and the type of skill it is. The products we do, really require advance tooling and the precision that you have to have. The tooling and working with the materials that we do are state of the art. The tooling skill is very deep in China. In the US, you could have a meeting with tooling engineers and I'm not sure if we could fill the room, even worse in Vietnam and India.
In China, you could fill multiple football fields.."

China's manufacturing would still remain profitable compared to Indian factories due to OUTSTANDING EFFICIENCY WITH HIGHLY SKILLED LABOUR & also subsidies from the chinese government to factories with extra facilities with BEST TRANSPORTATION IN THE WORLD which is ABOVE THE WORLD CLASS, the Chinese Government's focus on skill building & robust education system is very very advanced compared to India & without robust governance India couldn't achieve this even in next 20-30 years atleast. I as an Indian had visited many parts of the world even Europe, Japan but what i have seen in CHINA is just incomparable to any other nation in the world.

Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh don't have politicians like Rahul Gandhi who go out of their own country to get in power. They keep their matters in house only, so we can't play any role with straight face.

When you say low productivity, I think people are getting the wrong idea over it. The real problem is underpaid employment. I work in MNC with contract engineers and worker level people who come from all over India. They are skilled and can do work long hours. But don''t do it, the reason is underpayment. While this same workers go GULF countries and do more then required work, why ? Because they are paid which satisfies their requirement. In India we want everything Cheap but contractor make the payment so cheap that discourage the worker level people also the contract engineers to work extra for them. Their favourite line they say is "Atla paisa ma atluj kam thai" Means I only work for what I am paid, won't go any extra for your company. This same engineers go to GULF & Europe and will do hefty amount of work because they are well paid for their services & respected for it.

Correction: "Assembling" is not truely manufacturing. Anyone can do that. All the phones here are "Assembled". All the components are sourced from outside india by the manufacturer and then assemblemed in India. India cannot even produce some thing as simple as a LED chip, forget about all the SMD components that go into the PCBs and the screens, we have 0 manufacturing, everything is still made in China or in other south eastern countries like vietnam, indonesia, malaysia, phillipines. True manfacturing comes when you have core components manufacturing capability here. What India currently has is just supply chain to Assembly line hub for electronics. Anyone calling "Assembling" as manufacturing please think again as its not sustainable since the true resource here is only labour and not technological know how, which should be the main strength one should aim for.

    The answer is yes if:
    1. India exempts foreign companies from state and national restrictions and tariffs.
    2. Let foreign companies operate with the least amount of over-sight and minimal government interference.
    3. Either make the rupee fully convertible for foreigners or trade in a more useful currency.
    4. Ensure that the rights of companies and their employees are fully protected and enforced.

7:24: "Made in India" means assembled in India, while most of the actual manufacturing is done in China. This video felt more sensational than usual. I like that you provide a lot of data, but you sugarcoat it as well, while avoiding focus on the other side of the story. Lack of growth isn't the problem, slow growth is. A country with such a huge young population can be expected to grow faster than a small country like Sri Lanka. A better metric is one that's relative for example the HDI. India's HDI was .63 in 2015 and the same .63 in 2021. Another important metric is trade balance. India's trade balance was -55B in 2013 and -151B in 2022. Which means India has started importing more than it exports. Another metric is GDP per capita, which even Bangladesh is higher in compared to India. Also, the number of Indians who renounced their citizenship has increased by 71% (controlled for population). Why not include this to give us the whole picture?

Even if the gov suddenly decides to make a 10-20 billion dollar manufacturing unit of smartphone which will manufacture 100% components in India, we won't be able to do that. India has good talent but in case on semiconductor manufacturing we don't even know a grain of sand. We don't have the basic knowledge nor technology to compete with the chaina in semiconductor.
But its not true that we just assembly the smartphones. In case of iphone, its body, charging circuits, structural modules, antenas these are all made locally in India which was not the case just few years back.
And assembling is first step towards manufacturing, just like in 1981 suzuki entered India by just assembling but now today we export millions of car worldwide.
We have take small steps, if we try to jump we will fall on our face.

has reduced to 4.9 times . india received 125 billion usd in foreign remittance 2023 and FDI of 76 billion . india trade deficit in 2023 is 122 billion usd . so actually there is usd surplus of

US is trying its best to phase out China as fast as possible but they are choosing other countries in Asia, even when India is at odds with China. Interesting that India always has the hang up of beating China. Growth is not a zero sum game. It is not about beating others but bettering the lives of your citizens. India's economy right now is number five and a lot bigger than many countries for example Singapore , Norway, Sweden , South Korea, Japan etc but its standard of living is far lower than these smaller economies. Per capita income is more important. I suggest that Indian youths like her should take a trip to these smaller economies before bragging
