I'm not a connoisseur but bought a bottle of Hibiki 21 for a friend a couple of years ago and he was gracious enough to share it with me. Mind blown. It was so incredibly delicious it became an indelible flavor memory. Thanks for the video, gentlemen.

@@maltreviews I appreciate your reply. Thank you! Everything you noted in the video is spot on. The current price of a bottle has risen exponentially! I look forward to viewing more of your content. Best wishes.

Hey guys I was contemplating buying this one for some time and just now after watching your review, I pulled the trigger and ordered it online. It is $999.00 plus S&H. Hopefully I won’t be disappointed!

I live in Japan and have been able to acquire a few of these bottles at MSRP. I have two left and I was this close to selling one so that I could buy a handful of $100+ scotches, but after watching this I think I’ll hang on to it, because you’re right, this bottle is next level. Thanks always guys, love the channel!

Incredible to see that you guys bought this for less than a couple grand. Now it is fucking incredibly expensive. Even the 17 year is now around 600 or more depending where you are

Another great review! I just picked up a bottle over the weekend to enjoy over the holidays. I’m more of a bourbon drinker, and I didn’t really care for the Hibiki Harmony much. I did notice the similarity to the Harmony, but this was a much more robust experience. I’m new to Japanese whiskey, and the only other Japanese whiskey I’ve tried is the Yamazaki 18. If I’m being honest, I remember liking the Yama18 much more than my initial experience with the Hibiki 21... Maybe it’s because I’m not a scotch drinker?
Hopefully this opens up a bit. I think it was a very nice experience, and I enjoy this more “light” experience as opposed to the punch of flavor/proof I’m used to with bourbons like George T Stagg or William Larue Weller. The bourbons have an explosion of flavor, but the proof can kick ya in the teeth.
Thanks again for the review gents! Happy holidays and hope you get to enjoy some pours with friends and family. Cheers!

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  3 года назад +2

The Hibiki is def delicate compared to a bourbon but has a lot to offer, similar to a scotch. I would say leave it to the side for a couple weeks and then revisit. Also have it as your first dram, no bourbon before.
Happy holidays to you as well. Cheers!

Easy , chill out chat. I havent tried this one but have bottle saved as well as two of the 17yo. Had the 12yo and scored it about 84 points, didnt impressed me even for £45 from tescos back in day. How times change lol. Good to see you guys having fun while doing this, this is what its all about. High scores! Enjoying good dram and having chat is what whisky is all about to me. Thanks dudes

Cheers guys. Great review. This sounds like a jewel but sadly it's not to be. I still have an unopened bottle of Hibiki 12 and I can not believe how expensive that has become. I'm glad you brought up the issue of price and value. It's down to one's pocket, of course, but things are becoming crazy. Some distilleries are pushing barely entry level stuff, actual poor quality, for silly money.

    • @maltreviews

Thanks WT! I hear ya brother. Some of these whiskies are becoming offensive. I def over pay for the best of the best but like you said, over paying for entry level whisky thats not that good at all pisses me off.

Your in a tricky spot Joseph. Some states are out of luck unfortunately. The only thing I can think of is have it shipped to a friend/relative that lives in a state where they ship to. Then you can have that friend privately send it to you or you pick it up the next time you see them. Good luck!

You say you paid 'not too much more' than original price for this. In 2010 I was trying out Japanese whiskies and paid just over £80 each for two bottles of Hibiki 21. I still have one unopened luckily but I really enjoyed the bottle I drank. But yeah it depends what you want to call the 'original' price.
In the same order I got a bottle of Yamazaki 18 for...£55. Only one though. Drank it. Really enjoyed it.
I've tried some japanese whiskies since and they're mostly not a patch on the two above but I have enjoyed Nikka From The Barrel - don't be put off by the relatively low price with that one. It does also have some of that special nose of Japanese whisky, though not in same league as Hibiki 21 which tbh is ridiculous and almost smells like it's for wearing not drinking.
Mainly for me it's Laphie cask strengths now though. No going back.
