Yes, actually. For whatever reason there is a delay when you are able to initiate any of the menu options at the title screen the first time you go to it. You can highlight the options but you can't select them for the first few seconds. No idea why this is. If you come back to the title screen in any way without resetting the game, you can initiate any option immediately. Played this game a lot in my youth and that always mystified me. Granted they could still be manipulating RNG here too, of course. Regardless, for whatever reason you can't immediately select anything on the main menu of this game for the first 4 or 5 seconds.

He does actually. Any time you see bomberman flash white, it means he got hit but survived, either because he had a heart item, which allows you to take one extra hit, or because the boss was dead, at which point the level is over, and you cannot die.
