It was'nt exactly 08:51. The cutscenes have been removed, if they were'nt, the run would have taken something like 10 minutes. Beating Contra in 9 minutes is by no means possible, even when TASing(unless you are playing the arcade version...).
For anyone reading this in the future: they weren't removed, they were skipped. The Japanese version has a skippable map screen between levels instead of the US's unskippable stage name, which is why this version was used.

Help. When I try to rapid fire in my own TAS, it gives the animation of firing, but no bullets come out.

I didn't want say this, but the japanese version of Contra is better than the american version.
I prefer the US version. Less background distraction, but I like the veins stop pumping when the final boss dies.

Yes, the spread gun is OP when used like in the TAS. Shame that most people don't understand the mechanics behind it.
