Hey guys, thanks for watching my video. What do you play nowadays that gives you hope for the industry? 😂

you started your video saying 'it was all about the adventures we had' while talking about what gaming was, on footage from a game released on 2023.

I get your point, and I could've used older games we used to play to emphasize my point. I just really liked what I saw in the new Elden ring trailer. I thought it looked good during editing, but I guess the end result is not for everyone lol. Thanks anyways!

I and many others was offered voluntary redundancy at work, just in time for Elden Ring DLC. I don't know if I will be the lucky few, but it would be fun just to forget work and escape into the world of Elden Ring again.

I know. When I booked my vacation days for work a few months ago, I got lucky and it somehow aligned with the release date of Elden ring. 😂

@@HamZero I was the same, I booked my holidays back in 2022 and it aligned with the release date of Elden ring. This time around my manager has made it difficult for me and I could not book the release date for Elden ring DLC. However, if I take voluntary redundancy I will be out of a job and playing Elden ring DLC in a few weeks time.

I think it might be a no brainer, take the money and run. Elden Ring DLC here I come.

I think the reason video games "feel the same", a lot of the time is because there aren't really any new things to do with games anymore, in regards to gameplay.
Story, worldbuilding and visuals can all be fresh and new, but to a degree, all ideas have been done already. All gameplay mechanics have been seen somewhere, barely any new genres are made, the most astounding achievements are related to graphics and not gameplay, and so on.
It's rare I come upon a game that feels truly "new" because I've seen all of it once before at least. Even with Soulslikes. I've been playing since Dark Souls 1 hit Steam and have loved every entry whole-heartedly. When Elden Ring came out, I didn't expect it to do anything new, or break any established molds. I went into it thinking it will be "more of the same" and had a BLAST with it, and still love it with all my heart. My hype being stronger than ever with the DLC coming in 3-ish days, but even then not expecting to see anything new I haven't seen before.
You could argue "XYZ (not tryna spoil DLC content) is new, because that hasn't been in Soulslikes before" but from all I've seen, there's nothing groundbreaking, even if it might be a bit new to the genre. And especially the more games you play and the more frequently you play games, the less likely you are to discover things that do something new and never before seen.
I like when games take a genre and put their own spin on it, which is usually what draws me in to new FromSoft titles. The reasons I love Bloodborne and Elden Ring, are because they do things differently and try their hand at crafting their own identities for these games. And while mechanics carry over, I feel like if we had trick weapons from Bloodborne in every other FromSoft game moving forward (one of THE most beloved features, based on my time in the community), it would retroactively lessen the enjoyment Bloodborne can give, because the few things it has that do make it unique should stay unique. And for the same reason I DON'T enjoy Sekiro, because while it's an incredible game with incredibly interesting mechanics, it doesn't draw me in and doesn't appeal to me as much as the rest. But I'm glad not every FromSoft game nowadays relies on the perfect parry mechanic, or lock you in to a singular playstyle.
But a lot of other seriealised games don't try to make their own identities, opposed to one another. The worst offender being sports games, for obvious limitation reasons, and second - from my own personal experience - being shooter games. They tend to be more of exactly the same and are hardly distinguishable, but it makes sense there because their draw is the PVP/Competetive scene. Rainbow Six genuinely being one of the few games I've seen that even try to break the usual mold you see in shooters, followed by maybe Overwatch, although Overwatch isn't groundbreaking either, because it takes Team Fortress style matches and adds League style heroes to it.
Children and non-gamers (or being uninitiated in any sort of fandom, franchise, hobby or whatever really) have the most benefits, because they can get into it and experience a lot of new things and everything feels fresh to them due to lack of experience. So I would always suggest to people to try out whatever they think looks interesting but also don't expect new games to be groundbreaking and bring "fresh new wind" to any genre.

I think you're absolutely on point from the games and industry side of things. It's pretty hard to innovate in a specific genre when the template is almost the same every time. More to your point, they have do something unique in game mechanics to make us notice or rave about it. For me, Sports and racing games feel the same most of the time. The only thing that keeps it unique is the actual story and different engagements.

To me the term Indie game refers to a team of developers who made a game because it was their vision.
Not because someone wanted to cash in, or monetize skins, or create an esport. They made it cause it’s what they say in their dreams.
Halo CE is an Indie game to me. All the great olds are Indie games to me. Because it was before corporate greed got it’s hooks in everything

You have a really good point. Quality products were being prioritized far more than the extra buck. It's sad to see the state of these bigger corporations.
