Electricity is just smoke traveling thru copper hoses. The more smoke that is required the bigger the copper hose to carry it. Once you let the smoke "out", thats the end of it. Once you fix the leak you're back in bizness. Capicators store smoke for start ups. Motors are nothing but converters. They convert smoke into rotational torque. I'm old, I know things and fix stuff!

Chet , same but different , I headed to work Thursday , couple days ago at 5:00 AM , heard something different on my truck , and sure enough , my back passenger tire was on the assfault on the rim. Thank God my wife works from home so I used her car. I plugged the tire Friday in 12degree weather ! Ain't nobody wants to be out there doing repairs , but sometimes we jus gotta do it ! Thumbs ☝

The capacitor is for the quick start on the motor. It provides a burst of power allowing the motor to go 100% overload on startup. Brings the motor up to full speed in less than a revolution

Those are 3 phase motors. They really don't need capacitors to start even under load. They are probably all 9 lead motors so Wye start Delta run motor starters may help. Assuming that's not already the case.

My compression stopped, that serious in an auto shop. Pump shop to the rescue. Steve looked at the "microfarad" range, pulled a used one from the shelf, touched a screw driver across the terminals and said, here you go. Voltage and microfarad range have to match. There are "start" and "run" types. Happy camper back in business! You guys probable knew that, but I didn't at the time..

If your grain systems are all single phase, you probably have quite a few motors that will use the same caps. Maybe keeping some of the common ones in stock, along with an amprobe for checking motor load. Start capacitors seem to have the most problems, but run caps go bad as well. Grain handling in winter sucks no matter what.

I went back and looked at your previous videos on the two-track Deere. It doesn't appear that it has the cleaner bar between the drive wheels. That is something that was added to the Challenger tractors when we found out that in muddy conditions, mud could build up between the drive wheels and lift up on the belt guide blocks and unload the belt tension. With the muddy conditions I have seen in your previous videos, that might be an issue. The Quad-tracks don't have quite as much of an issue with it. If Deere has a retrofit kit, it might be worth adding. Also, a headlight cleaning kit might clear up the overhead window on the excavator. A few thoughts from a retired Cat Challenger service engineer.

    Howdy ya'll,
Capacitors definitely store energy, I found out the hard way, I was asked to make sure this device worked, no one knew what it was, so I unplugged it to be safe, and when I touched it, WOW !! It threw me back !! I was shocked by 220 before, but this Capacitor was huge, and shocked me WAY harder, my ear and my foot were so hot after touching it, so ya, they most definitely store energy !! lol although I wasn't laughing when I first learned that, I told my boss, it's broken, and to get rid of it, and I wasn't even paid, I was doing charity work, for a local charity organization..
Stay safe, and Farm on, Peace

We had a capacitor room at our facility that held the power factor correcting capacitors for the incoming12KV power. We had very strict lockout/tagout procedures including locking the grounding bars in place but it still made me nervous going in there and replacing a cap. Have also replaced many on farm motors, getting rid of those is one of the nice things about having 3 phase power.

I feel your pain Chet dealing with a frozen chunk in the sump. We put cages in all our bins over the sump and it made a big difference. That and if a bin hasn't been run for a while or the grain has a peak i always climb in and make sure there are no chunks before I start the unload.
