      I think that most people who end up "left alone" are people who black out, actively hide/run away/ditch their friend group and then they can't find them. I base this on myself being a blackout drunk and people generally being unable to get a hold of me, even when I have power on my cellphone. Luckily I have a very solid internal compass that auto-homes in on a safe and warm place to sleep :)
      I don't resent my friends for not going out of their way to track me down, if anything I resent myself for doing this shit ^^ Therefore I never judge when I see shit like this, we can't all be heroes all the time, especially when out having a good time.
      It's probably also worth to note that I've actively worked on this over the years and now have a better hold on setting up some kind of a safetynet for myself before I being drinking. But litterally I will blackout at some point, I don't get any indication of it beforehand and I'm not a person who can say "I can drink [insert amount of drinks here] before I should stop", it just varies so wildly that it's either one/no drinks or limitless with the possibility of me blacking out - that's just how it is and that's fine, I just need to be mindful of that knowledge and that's MY responsibility :)

    It depresses the Central Nervous System, which is the same system engaged when you stub your toe(and why drunk people don't react to pain as quickly). Since the tics are basically electrical noise in the brain triggering the "stubbed toe response", there would be fewer of them when drunk.

    • @barneyrubble736
      @barneyrubble736 2 года назад +4

      Thank you. I am also curious as to why her tics speak with an American accent and not a British accent.
      Has anyone got any insight on that element of Tourette's and tics?

    • @TimPortantno
      @TimPortantno 2 года назад +14

      @@barneyrubble736 The whole point is that curse words are stored in another part of the brain, since people that lose the ability to speak(like from a stroke physically disconnecting parts of the brain) will still reflexively curse when hurt(what I'm calling "stubbed toe response," which has been shown to increase pain tolerance/reduce the perception of pain).
      It's possible that it's because it's not a verbalized word, but a memory, more like an impression of all the people they saw doing the same thing(like when 2 babies have a pretend conversation), so there is no accent.
      The same thing happens when singing and when doing impressions, which is that people lose their accent and also have a slight endorphin boost(presumably due to breath control, like exercise).
      This is also why other countries often use American expletives, because they are recalling "a moment" from many movies, simultaneously.

      Ya'll .....the fems are not all fragile people....guys can be fragile and vulnerable too. Hey, did you know guys can get sexually abused also???.... So, what I am saying is Anita has a big heart, and she just happened to be in a safe situation because of her camera wielding pal. Would I recommend a random single woman, taking on a drunk dude??? Ah, FUCK NO!! But I would suggest that she find help...yeah... HELP EACH OTHER....it's not as scary as you think it is.

I was about 10-11 when this stuff happened but now I'm 14 and even though I now have mental health issues I am again just happy my brother is safe and rehabilitated

      @Reggie Cyde bro no
      if you're surrounded by a certain influence for a long time of course you will change, literally everyone will. if an american goes to live in england they'll likely adopt a brit accent. and non native speakers learning english for the first time adopt the accents they hear too, which is why some people you meet may have an accent that's a mix of brit and american. it doesn't hint at you being insecure about yourself lol, i can see why you'd think that but that's total bull, it's simply to do with the exposure to a certain thing (be it accent, culture) over a long time

    • @katiekawaii
      @katiekawaii 5 лет назад +72

      @Reggie Cyde Sorry, that's simply not true. This has actually been studied, and what we've learned is that the common trait shared by people who more readily take on the speaking style (accent, vocabulary, etc) of others is empathy. It makes sense. People who are able to mentally put themselves in others' shoes, to see the world from another's perspective and to understand them, are also able to pick up on how they communicate and then communicate in a similar way.
      And while it can be very difficult for adults to completely change their accent, most can consciously modify their accent to a degree if they try to (as many do when learning a foreign language). It's easier (and can even happen without effort) if you go live somewhere where you're surrounded by that accent. And it's all generally pretty easy, even in some circumstances inevitable, when you're young.

Her tourettes is like your inner voice in your head when you read something. The only time I have an accent is when I talk. But yeah I don’t know if this is relatable for you. One of my closest friends had a slightly lower form of tourette. He just had a lot of ticks without swearing. And was always drinking a lot of alcohol and using drugs to suppress them. I was always worried about him because he was probably the nicest guy i've ever met and will. He had a long relationsship which suddenly ended 4 years ago. Afterwards he was like an empty shell, giving in to the alcohol even more. 2 years ago he finally seemed to get it together and started to live a good life for himself. Started a band (he's was incredible on the vocals) and planned to go into other country for travel. He was in such high spirits. One night he went to a friend drinking and having some fun. And never woke up again.
    It felt like he finally reached his goal and could let go of everything that tortured him in the past.
    At the funeral were hunderds of people. To say goodbye to a man that was such a caring and loveable friend. I don't think he ever knew how much he was loved by everyone.
    I have no idea why i am writing ths right now...maybe i'm just concernd about the combination of tourette and alcohol. Stay safe, you're okay they way that you are.

      My adhd is really different when I’m drunk and I fell into a bit of a bad spot for a little while. Society does a lot to make you feel like the way you are is somehow an inconvenience to others, and we’re often taught that it’s our job to “fix” these issues to make other people’s lives easier. I’ve tried so hard for so many years to keep control of my impulses, and sorely failing (almost as if people with ADHD have little to no impulse control 🤦🏽‍♀️😅) and it’s exhausting. It’s really exhausting to do it every second of every day, and especially the people with big hearts, who care so much about how other people feel. So to hear that you as a human being, with the way your brain naturally functions, is an inconvenience to those around you? It’s devastating. I felt since my impulses were so low when I was drinking, it was more convenient for the people I cared about if I stayed that way. I don’t even like drinking, I never have. I just sincerely believed what I was doing was benefitting the people around me. I guess my point is that I agree with you, the statement that you’re fine the way you are. And I sincerely hope you continue to spread that ideal, in a world where I believe it’s much much needed 💖

    I love running across this woman’s videos. She’s such a charming individual. It’s quite fun and entertaining in an endearing way to learn about her life with this condition. I know this video is like three years old but I was just in San Diego a couple weeks ago for vacation. I probably would’ve gone right up to her had it been this year 🤣 just because she seems like such an amazing spirit.

      I mean I tic more when I watch Anita's videos but that's due to mirror neurons. I tic a lot less when hammered. Because being drunk, stoned or whatever state of unsober you may be, it disturbs the signal substances in the brain and that does truly help alleviate stray signals.

      If you really let your drunk friends do shit, then don't come and cry if the next day you learn that your friend is dead. I had a friend who turned violent (and he was a martial arts champion), I took it in stride. I don't care if I receive punches, it's rather that than letting him run on the middle of the road, assault or get get assaulted, rolled over by a car or even worse. Moral of the story, just DON'T get drunk in the first place. It's stupid, you are not yourself and not thinking straight, you are fucking with your brain, your kidneys, your heart, your liver, pretty much everything. Unless your goal is to commit suicide then sure go ahead. I'd rather carry you home by all means even it takes hours without sleep and not being able to catch my breath than letting people down. You guys suck and are just looking for pityful beta male excuses.
