Thanks for this Canje, I am a visual learner and this methodical walk through is helping me jump into my copy right now. I'm going to test out the tutorial for the review but have had similar issues that you describe in the past with a book telling me to push pieces around and my brain not making the connection as to why? Happy that Chip Theory is giving the small guys like us a chance with this :). Happy for you.
@@CanjeStudios I am a Chip Fanboy who loves TMB so they will certainly be biased and slanted towards a company who just gave a little guy a pre production copy :)
Man, you have nothing to apologize for. The video was great! I've watched several playthroughs and only with yours was I able to get a better idea of how to play! Thank you very much!
@@CanjeStudiosI’m 3h in now and you’re very entertaining, it’s great to watch you getting comfortable with the game and explain things on the go / adjust things after being corrected. Already subscribed and looking forward to see more, very nice that you enabled getting the pre production copy for yourself to showcase it here in your style and with a lot of personality!
This review is super helpful to me, because you talked a lot about how you learn. Often times my job in a friend group is to teach the players who learn like you, because I learn pretty well through in depth rule books. Knowing what I need to know ahead of time is really useful, and knowing what I need to help my friends with is even more useful. This will be my first CTG game, and I couldn't be more excited. I've watched pretty much every review that's come out since gencon, and this is easily my favorite one. You bring such a positive energy, even when bringing criticism forward, which is hard to do! Seeing the process of learning a new play through is a really valuable resource for a new game, the more mistakes you make here, the less I'll make when I get my hands on the game. So thanks for taking the hit for the rest of us!
Wow, you're awesome, first time viewer here. Thought i'd be skipping through, but nope, watched all of it lol. Tbh, love the character creation, but still undecided on the game itself, i feel the battles could get repetitive quick. On another note, i'm planning on getting Euthia, so unsure i need the two - Also have TMB as well.
@@Lhorbrum thank you, yeah I think Paul talked about the difference between this and TMB. I tried out TMB a long time ago and I liked this one better personally
Thanks for the stream Derrick! It was great watching you work through things. Everyone learns differently, it cos of guys like you and Paul Grogan that i can learn games by watching others learn! I am sooo excited to get this :)
Just discovered your channel searching for ES:BotSE content - and glad I did! Really enjoy your style and as someone who is AuDHD, I can relate to the different style of learning
This was fantastic and will be incredibly useful when the game fulfils, was really good to spend time looking things up and stepping through the rulebook too see how things should be resolved. How you guys manage this without an index yet is astonishing. Absolutely no need to apologise for imbeciles and there caveman views, keep doing what your doing a lot of people get joy from it.
Thank you for the hard work on this. Please note, some rules have been updated, especially enemy turn sequence rules for movement and engagement. Make sure you have newest version of rulebook. I notice your page 64 in the pdf you displayed reads different than what I have. cheers.
Good stream, Canje. I like your stuff BECAUSE you stumble through sometimes, it's real and you always want to do your best :). Mistakes are good, as they are the same ones a lot of us would make. Wish I had been watching live when whatever was said was said. I could see it bothered you, and I would have told you, "Stop, take a depth breath and laugh at it." People like that aren't worth your time or energy, and the best thing you could do is just laugh at it and move on with the stream. I believe race is the least interesting thing about people, and people that spew attacks based on that kind of stuff are just looking for a reaction. Always best to give them a reaction that grants them no power over you. Keep up the good work, man.
Great Stream Canje!! Just caught up from this morning. One note, you can look before you go to a town I believe,( saw it from a CTG playthrough) to see what they have before you go to it In the future. Keep making great content and ty for defending and protecting this chat from any type of hate. Thank you!!
@@CanjeStudios no need to be sorry. It’s actually a good thing that these streams are long. Since watching them is the closest most of us are gonna get to actually play them for several more months.
This was an amazing stream and I'm glad I watched it all the way through! I agree, scripted tutorials are difficult to learn from because you really don't have a stake in the decision making, and the outcomes don't really have explanations. I can't wait until your next one, have a great week!
Hey Kate, if you see this comment. Thankyou for the Gifted Membership. Would have said thankyou on the stream but Alas Sleep called too strongly. Otherwise I'll catch you on another Stream and thankyou than.
Great stream Canje. The tutorial issue is not a “you” issue. The problem is that it’s not a “learn to play” like, say, FFG’s Marvel Champions Learn To Play booklet. It’s just a “here’s how it all works together” guide that only makes sense when you know the rules of the game. If you try to learn the game from it it’s like watching a chess match without knowing how chess plays, how the pieces move etc.
@@Feldingor My hope is that there is a rewrite of the tutorial. CTG has said you can skip the tutorial. Personally I like seeing the entirety of the lore but it can be omitted.
I wish the tutorial would actually teach how to play the game inteoducing the rules as they are needed but that would need a complete redesign of the tutorial booklet and it would triple in size if they had to incorporate actual rules. I’m not sure the “read this page on the rulebook” sections will go away. It would be nice if they could incorporate some discussion about what to do and why before the actual instructions in the tutorial
Hmm… at 1:15:30 -ish, you mention how the combat dice are not explained in the tutorial. I’m beginning to think that Chip Theory Games should rename that booklet to “Sample Play” because, you are correct, it does not seem to really be a tutorial (or learn-to-play) as I think of it.
At 1:06:40 -ish, you mention how character building is *almost* like D&D, but you were worried D&D folks would be mad if you said that… I’m not mad and I don’t think other players would be either (unless they are trolls). The push/pull track is a lot like D&D players min/maxing their characters. I think the comparison is a decent one. BTW, could you organize the playlist in session order? That way folks can just hit play and get them in the right sequence. Newest session first means folks have to keep reversing the playlist get things in sequence.
I like your questions in the discord! I barely engage there but I read a lot there. I don't know if I'll make it through this whole video but I'll drop a like. Thanks for sharing
