We remodel chicken farm poutry houses for 14 years and that's how we use to frame for fans doors was fun and super dusty. We came out with a ton ideas how do it better everytime
After being a remodeling contractor for 40 years or so I have become really good at fixing the mistakes of the past plus my own mistakes. You can learn something new everyday and you say I thought I have seem everything a lot.
I really don't care if you do the same stuff over and over, still entertaining to watch. It's always new and sometimes you'll have a new technique or tip.
I might overthink stuff but been a finish carpenter for 20yrs & when I install exterior doors with a threshold I fill the inside half under the threshold with a heavy duty liquid nail/pl to dry hard like a shim so the threshold don’t bounce & the outside half with a playable waterproof silicone to get best of both worlds..just my experience works best
I have watched your videos for many months now. I am impressed with your work dedication to perfection, not practiced much these days . Moisture is your worst enemy and after watching all the steps taken to stop it on the door installation I have one suggestion that I have tried. To stop moisture from wicking up the side frame boards , I have removed the aluminum threshold plate and primed and caulked the board ends. Reattach the threshold plate compressing the caulking out and wipe clean
I've learned so much from your videos. Even Ambition strikes people. QUESTION: Why install this door so far out and restrict the opening to 90 degrees? If you make a jamb extension you can get the full 180 degree opening. This install would benefit from it for sure but more work trimming it out.
When you cut a bit high on that flush cut of the grade board if you come back with a disc grinder with a flapper wheel it will take the top off of that board in an instant. Great work boys!
Totally agree with getting it to, to let you know what to do next. Live and die by the concept of Do what know and the rest will follow. If that makes sense.
Through The Roof is some awesome stuff! We sale it in our store and it’s the go to every time when someone needs something. Matter of fact we use it to patch our waders that’s how good it is and even is that flexible.
I just dumped all my Team Yellow from that vintage (18VDC NiCd). I bought new NiCd batteries for it about 18 months ago, and they lasted about 12 months before they failed. I could have gone the XRP Adapter, and said NO...I wasn't going to spend $50 for the adapter, then another $200 on batteries on nearly 20 year old tools. Went Team Red...$500 got me brushless drill, impact driver, light, circular saw, single hand sawzall, and a multi-tool. ALL brushless. It also came with a 6Ah Battery and a 3Ah battery with charger. VERY happy with that upgrade. :)
Seriously considering this myself, I'm using cheap adapters but the yellow batteries still die too damn often and when you test them it's usually just ONE cell killing the pack. Red is looking REALLY tempting dammit!
@@BLKMGK4I know people that went Team Yellow with the Li-Ion and are very happy. I opted for Team Red because many people I know moved to them and have been beyond happy. I do wish the batteries were a little less. Holy freaking wah. Kyle must have $10K in batteries in that trailer! LOL.
When I do this I first check the concrete for level and will adjust the jamb height if the concrete is more than a 1/4” out of level. Using a 1/4”+ of grout allows me to get a perfect level threshold. Because if your sill isn’t perfect, then those will be reflected in your reveal/door closer/seals.
Kyle, First thank you for the content. I am a crane operator and safety coordinator for a company out of Ohio so if you ever have any questions feel free to ask. Also I started in roofing and our gable ends we always himed our first and last sheets down folding them over a side trim similar to how you locked in the bottom piece (just an idea if you want to try). Lastly have you ever worked with metal trusses on post frame buildings? I am trying to find details on insulating with metal trusses.
I like that you are very exact when doing work, it is inspiring but sometimes like when installing a door or windows you have to put the level away and just make it work and look good, Thanks for the video
Your screw drilling technique is impeccable and satisfying. Confidently managing its trajectory but not driving it too far that ends with a satisfying brrt!
Your videos have been such a great learning resource for me! I'm curious though, why install the door so far out and limit the opening to 90 degrees? Wouldn't extending the jamb for a full 180-degree opening be beneficial? It seems like it would require some extra trimming, but it could really enhance the functionality. Keep up the awesome work!!
Nice job. I wonder if the owner wants to move the control buttons for the overhead door inside, now that there's a man door for access. It would certainly improve security.
If that pre hung door was made with a full width jamb so the inside of the door was flush with the inside wall finish then the door could swing a full 180 degrees as it should.
I’m about to renovate an old metal building that has all the siding horizontal. I noticed most if not all of your projects deal with the ribbing in the vertical and I already see the advantage for water drainage, fitting windows and doors, etc. But would you suggest I replace all the metal with vertical layout or is there a way to properly compensate with the less than ideal horizontal when sealing windows and doors. I’m new to this and really perplexed with the horizontal and already running into problems!
why did you use such a narrow thickness door? now you can't open it past 90 degrees, maybe should of got a thicker one made for those 2x6 walls or added some wood to the face of the door jam... ran into the same problem today lol went back and got a door made for a 2x6 wall lol
Don't forget that 30 years ago cordless impact drivers and drills were nearly non-existent and or sucked. I'm sure running around with a corded driver wasn't all that fun, thus the higher usage of nails.
I'm just DIY at best so I really don't do this for employment but why no panel saws? a hand saw is cheap and easy for all these bits the power tools make harder to do, time.s money and all that. tidy work guys, nice to see.
@mjboy8790 I do believe him nor I swing in that direction. However, I like his channel and personality. If I can help anyone grow that I like, it's the least I can do.
You put tape on the bottom of the door framing that touched the slab, but you didn't tape the block that you Tapcon'ed to the slab. Shouldn't you have also put a waterproof tape on that block as well?
On one hand, the roll formed sheet makes it different from usual installs, but there's no drywall, plaster, wood siding, stucco, etc, to complicate things. I just did a door in old construction where the entire framed wall was leaning over 1 inch. Worst I ever encountered, but it didn't really change how I install doors. I always show up with lots of shims. For thresholds, I bring aluminum to shim with. All my shims get glued. For shimming jams, I put them all in, make sure it's all plumb, true, level, then drop crazy glue on the shims so they don't move while I set fasteners, and trim off the excess shimming.
The edge of the asphalt drive is now inside the door hearth so you have partial grass and partial ashphalt as you walk through. You should have lined up the right side of the door jamb with that grass/ashphalt edge border by moving the opening 4 inches left.

Crazy watching you cut metal while looking up at the cut on a windy day and NOT wearing eye-pro.

It is so dang funny when you change his voice like that at 7:15...cracks me up every time ;-)

About time you got some badger bags, jealous of the red cobra buckle. Great video
I managed to get a red buckle on my custom badgers that I’m still waiting on.

Always impressive work.
I like how you reused all the good old steel, it looks great!
You’re work and company make such amazing products. So I was wondering if your company could would you ever work on the West Coast?
Great to watch how the pros do it

Kyle is a funny guy at times 😂😂
I’ve used through the roof to fix my boots and used it in bathroom installs too

If not videoed and published on RUclips, you would never know.
Good practices produce good results, even though it was a struggle to install.
Back in the days before ready made shims, we made them. Really easy to do. 😁😁

A complex job done so well.
Yes!

Do they make a door with a 8.25” jamb? Seems the 3.5” door jamb allows the door to hit the framing and spring the hinge.
