Silent Cartographer is the first level a great many of the OG Halo players ever experienced. It was the demo level on consoles in game shops and was my personal introduction to the franchise back in 2001. Even to this day, nothing is more quintessentially "Halo" than this. Enjoying watching you play through!
This was the demo, that’s amazing!! Enough to give you a flavour of the game without giving anything away 👌🏼 I miss going to the shop and standing in front of the consoles and playing games 😂
28:47 - on this level, yes they do let you free roam. Which means that every bit of ammo and equipment that you have passed, or are still to pass, is still available to you at any time. And you can reach it with a Warthog in a trice.
15:50 I finally figured out what these small enemies remind me of. Ewoks from Star Wars. They don't look like them, but they do sound like them and when they're running with their hands in the air is funny.
I do think the ancient Halo structures look more mysterious and ancient in the original. The original design gives them a more enigmatic feel, also find that the holograms you find stand out more without the "noise" of the background. Such at 42:54 46:45 Wort Wort Wort
When I think of Halo, this is the mission I think of. We had so much fun doing co-op back in the day on this mission. Hours just playing with the game physics, weapons, and seeing where we could get the Warthog into. Just such a fun game. Enjoy!
The Needler is fully automatic you don't need to burst fire it so imagine it as an explosive SMG. If you pick another one up try shooting a barrage of needles into an elite or grunt and watch the fireworks you can tell when you fired enough because the enemy will start flailing around, just try to avoid using it vs hunters and jackals as their shields reflect needles
@@Spectral_PNT Halo’s assortment of weapons is well balanced. There are always advantages and disadvantages to each one; there aren’t any 100% guaranteed “best for all enemies” weapons. There’s no starter weapon that should be thrown out as soon as the next better one comes along. It’s as much a matter of taste and personal playstyle as it is enemy type or ammo availability.
@@Fishmorph Ya just was saying how the weapon works, a lot of people don't seem to get how the weapon works, they just fire a few needles and assume it does no real damage and never try using it again
The Silent Cartographer Demo at the game-store along with Blood Gulch MP at my friends house was my very first interaction with HALO: CE. Been in love ever since. Best HALO memories ever, and I always play on OG graphics.💚
Don't worry about playing the game a certain "way." If you feel comfortable clearing out a section before moving on, go ahead. The only levels where you really need to keep moving are 7 and 10. Also, just a general encouragement, try not to let people's negative opinions affect how you enjoy the games. Halo has plenty of vocal "never-content" fans, especially when it comes to certain games. Some of them mean well, but if you like something, it doesn't matter what other people say about it. (Edit: Also also, Try to get in the habit of reloading whenever you have a break in action.)
Hey Nat great episode, this was a really good mission, i like how you can switch between the original graphics and the remastered its a nice feature, thankyou for another great video, hope you have a great new year
Oh yeah, the interior section of The Silent Cartographer is absolutely a maze. I've gotten turned around in there plenty of times. I agree with you that the pacing of this game is really good. It keeps moving, but it also doesn't immediately throw the entire story in your face from the beginning. Can't wait to see more levels! P.S. You're definitely getting the hang of the game!
19:31 - you are forced out of zoom [what you call ADS, but which isn't actually a thing in Halo until much, much later - at the moment you have zoom] whenever you are getting shot...
You really are getting a hang of it, it feels like. Like I’m sure people have been echoing non-stop, but I’m excited to see you tackle this franchise as a whole! Knowing what’s coming, knowing what you’re in for, I’ll be here every step of the way!
12:06 yea i mention tht in the last gameplay how easy is it to fall of ledges and cliff in Halo if you're not paying attention to where your going 😂 😂 😂 😂😂😂 And I've never heard tht dialogue from a marine before thts hilarious
I can not stress this enough. It is extraordinarily important that you play the sixth level on the original graphics. The reason is that in that level, in particular, there is environmental storytelling that is not present in the Anniversary graphics at all.
Also also also, if you can land a bunch of needles on the same target, they will combine and explode. Just hold the trigger down and try to keep the reticle red.)
Damn you went right for the Hunters lol, I always tried to stay in cover and snipe them. That little red spot on their back is the only spot they're vulnerable.
Thanks Nat another awesome episode with MC. Nobody knows what he looks like . He’s like a green Stig with just as dangerous driving skills. Old or new graphics the debate goes on . Some prefer pretty others prefer dark and mysterious. It’s a great game either way. Hope you try Cursed Halo with a friend sometime Nat. It’s Halo but modded to the point of complete silliness. Think it’s worth a try.
With many of the big battles later on, picking up new weapons from the floor while fighting becomes pretty much necessary. Fortunately, it's just as fast as reloading without having to stop when you walk over a gun on the ground.
Hunter Tip: they're weak only in the exposed orange bits - which you somehow hit with that sniper first try back before you went up the gravity lift - but I think you've got it subconsciously 🤙
This game is absolutely beautiful but it pales when compared to 2 in so many ways. That’s my favorite. I think is objectively better than all the rest in almost every way. Still, I’ve really enjoyed your gameplay of combat evolved a lot so far. Don’t feel so bad about the marines. It happens a lot. Sometimes they accidentally get in the way or a grenade goes off and flips the warthog on them. So much chaos. You don’t need them but it sure does make things easier when you have the full crew.
We are going to have to apologize to all those Cartographers on this island because I've got the feeling the Marines and Master Chief are about alter the landscape with the amount of artillery they're going to drop on this place. And they're going to have redraw all the maps. There's going to be some new beachfront property available real soon.
Honestly, don't get too bothered with Halo purists who get bothered by not using the old graphics. Some are just nostalgic and others think the new graphics are just too bright.
When you have a lot of enemies in one area try to thin them out from cover or from a distance! That magnum pistol packs a punch! The big blue Hunters, are easy! let them charge at you! then quickly step to the left, turn fast and you can 1 shot, 1 kill them in the lower back, in the orange part! Also, from here on out ammo does get a little more, scarce. I would advise to be conservative with it, but hey, you do you and have fun! As long as you're killing enemies you shouldn't run out of ammo!
It's harder to see the hunters weak spot in the newer graphics since they have the reach armor applied, in OG its so much easier to see where you can shoot them
@@PhoenixNatDefinitely OP. I like how it's also the very first weapon you get in the game. Most new folks completely dismiss it at first... Little do they know!
@@josiahpaez4601 To be honest in most games pistols aren't great and are simply what you use when your out of ammo or as a backup, Halo at least made its pistol unique with it having headshot capabilities, if it lacked that I don't think it would be AS useful
15:10 Weapons in Halo do not have damage fall off at long range, the reticle turning red only means that - if you were playing on controller - it would give you aim assist. (Which would make the reticle stick to enemies a bit more, but does not aim for you.) In this case the Elite did not take damage because you were actually hitting the tree. Some of the updated graphics visual geometry does not match the old school collision geometry. That specific tree is one of the worst cases of this. There are also a lot of rocks and crates that are just slightly bigger than what they look like on new graphics. Switch back to see if you're not sure, and be VERY careful firing the rocket launcher from out of cover.
5:27 - "keeping moving" is feasible on Normal. But it simply isn't on any higher difficulty - @LUCYJROBYN will tell you that: she's been there. This is why I said in my comment on your last video that - in my opinion - you should always scavenge: if you've killed everything, there is always something useful to be found ready for later, and it's better practice for handling the game. If you run past - you won't know what's available. Other people differ...
Good advice. The devs did a great job leaving little weapon drops that are super useful or fun for the next section that will be just ahead, but you have to find them!
Just FYI, theres a BUG on level 8 where if you rush past an early-ish section, the music could be ruined for the entire rest of the level. I noticed other playthroughs of people rushing past the section, and it sucks since the musics soo good on level 8. I want so say in advance because I dont know how far youve gotten off screen, but like all Halo levels, its much better with the music.
@@PhoenixNatYeah, this bug sucks so much. It practically ruins most modern playthroughs. I don't know why they haven't fixed it yet. If it happens, it happens. Just be aware that it's not supposed to be that way. Also, while we're talking about rushing past things, I want to give some advice that will really help as the game gets more difficult regarding check points. I know people have advised you to just keep moving and that's generally true, but will really hurt you if you don't understand how the game does checkpoints. So, you have to be in the right spot (trigger volumes, generally in transition spots between areas like hallways) and not "in combat" at the same time to get a checkpoint. And by "not in combat", I mean none of the enemies can be aware of you, and that's easiest if they're all dead. You'll kinda get a feel for when checkpoints should happen, and if you're not getting one when it seems like you should, be sure you're completely clearing out an area before moving onto another. This will be very important later in the game. I think folks generally mean don't just stand still in the middle of a firefight, not "run past enemies".
Happy new year! And just a heads up. After "Assault on the control room" is "343 Guilty Spark". Trust me when I say this, you're going to want to play that mission on original graphics. And again not to be a gatekeeper. But please, whatever you do, DO NOT switch to anniversary. 343 industries messed up that level badly when it comes to the atmosphere, tension, tone and overall feel. "343 Guilty Spark" is an important mission in the story. Then again, they messed up the entire original game, and how it was supposed to be, with the inferior anniversary edition. And I don't want you to miss anything important. That's all I'll say. Nothing more.
Not sure how far ahead you're recording these but one specific tip - I think you need to unlearn the habit of being conservative with ammunition or trying to manage recoil (there basically isn't any) and stop trying to burst fire enemies with the assault rifle. The elites in particular are designed so that you need to take their shields down and finish them in a single attack - otherwise they'll just regenerate the shields, actually making it a waste of ammo. There is always more ammunition to pick up from the corpses of your foes! The visual cues on the elite shields are much harder to see in the remastered graphics so the game doesn't do as good a job teaching you this unfortunately.
Agreed about the "remastered" graphics making it harder to notice shield behavior, which is really unfortunate. And I agree that full beans with the assault rifle at close range can make short work of a foe, shielded or not, but tight controlled bursts will really extend the range and accuracy at longer distances. I think she's doing fine and seems to be enjoying Halo as is, but I do agree that modern games have taught her habits that aren't helping in this case. Most these guns really were meant to be used with full abandon! Especially the needler, she still hasn't seen what that thing is capable of! Full auto baby! Don't let up!
