Melbourne began to resemble a ghost town as city edges closer to total shutdown.
The Victorian Government announced that Victoria will enter a State of Disaster from 6pm Sunday 2 August and that Melbourne will be in Stage 4 restrictions until Sunday 13 September. However, Premier, Daniel Andrews, made further announcements on Sunday, 6 September, extending these restrictions for an additional two weeks until Monday, 28 September. Over the coming months there will be some easing of restrictions around exercise, curfew hours and social interaction which are subject to public health advice.
A curfew from 8.00pm to 5.00am currently applies until 11.59pm on Sunday, 13 September when it will be eased to 9.00pm to 5.00am. The only reasons to leave home during these hours will be for work, medical care and caregiving.
As part of the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Victorian Government made further restrictions on Monday 3 August, that certain businesses, schools and other organisations had to close or operate under strict conditions.
