- 2006 GMC Envoy with rumbling noise coming from front wheel bearings. In this video demonstration I take you through my diagnosis in addition to removal and installation of the RF wheel bearing Hub assembly and outer tie rod.
This is a similar procedure on many front hubs, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 GMC Envoy Hope you enjoy
Excellent video or of the best I’ve seen didn’t miss a thing I’m in the exact situation same vehicle even the color. Thanks 👍
Thanks again this video really helped a great deal n thank you
Thank You for this very informative video. I'll be tackling this job tomorrow morning on my 09 Envoy 4x4. Keep Up The Great Work 👍 💯👍💯👍💪💪💪

Good video and info.
"that's terrible" 😂 appreciate the video💯💪
Great instructor. Is it beneficial at all, even if you're not renewing the pads, to go ahead and take the glaze off the rotor? I did not do this on one rotor, out of forgetfullness when I changed my pads, and I've been hearing a slight squeal ever since.
Great video. What size is axle nut?
So your not gonna say what size socket to remove hub???
35 MM
I just did this too mine , my brakes still drag when I turn right so I am going to rebuild the front caliper.
Good video for real though. I like that even when it comes out easy you explain that isn't always the norm.
This is what I'm about to do to mine thanks for the video man!
Do you recommend replacing both wheel bearings if having to replace one?
Awesome video!! Keep up the great work!
I would have done the same as you in changing both wheel bearings along of course with the tie-rod end. Great work Will and to your other half :)
Thanks for agreeing, your old scope saved my day last week, would have made you proud wish I would have captured. Great hearing from you
Sounds great Will on the scope. What sensor or circuit did you use it on to be curious? Since you mentioned scope, I'll be capturing some wave forms a little later today on a Ford Escape that was purchased recently. I'll be using the wave forms as a baseline for referral down the road when something acts up. Take care Will...
+stuzman52 cam crank correlation. was going crazy. turned out to be self inflicted, timing belt installation one tooth off, came in like this. ran pretty well considering. through me off. I joined IATN luckily they had a known good.
Excellent Will and glad to hear that it worked out for you. I can see where that would be a real head scratcher without a scope. Otherwise, it's tearing into it and visually looking it over. And I forgot to mention this in your previous post, but I'm always proud of you. You do great work with a high sense of pride in yourself and trust me, others know this too :) Have a great weekend Will!
Thanks again :) means a lot coming from you. will you be capturing this process on video? would be interesting to see. wish i had done the same through the years
Hey my son has 2 envoys one is 4x4 and the other is 2wd and it has the same bearings and a place for a CV axle but it's not there's because it's a 2wd so what's holding it together?
Nice one buddy, when I was working at my buddy parts store we had a new garage that was having high returns of wheel bearings , one of our customers was complying that the part was under warranty but not the installation so we asked him if he could watch the install and sure enough it was impacted on screening tight. They were blaming us for crapy parts and he was taking in the cash, not a customer anymore and nobody will deliver to him now. Cheers
Thank you bud, and thanks for sharing your experience with this as well, its unfortunate some shops out there giving others a bad name happens way to often. They don't realize how fortunate they are in the first place to have a business, I never understood this. We struggled being honest seemed other prospered doing otherwise
What size is the axle nut?
35mm or 36mm depends where you're at or if it's been done before.
What was the size of the axel nut socket you used.
Just did the same thing on driver's side of my 2007 Trailblazer. Bearing on the other side had been replaced , so still good. After replacing hub assembly (driver's side ) also, outer tie rod , turned rotors, and replaced pads ( both sides ) . Put wheels on , figured out the other outer tie rod is bad ...oops ! So I will do tomorrow. Driving home , with a little snow falling , the steering is so sloppy, can't hardly keep it in the lane. Is this due to bad rod on the other side , along with new one on driver's side ?
very nice. i'm now your newest subscriber
Are the two holes in the wheel bolt flange threaded? If so, I'm guessing they are there to drive the hub out with a couple long bolts... if it's stuck.
Love the videos man keep them coming 👍👍👍👍 thanks for all u do for us
Thank you bud :) will do
Well done and I like the innuendo.
Thank you, thought it may help haha
Great Job
Great Video. Thanks for the information.
great to see you do the whole job sort of real time, I have to do both sides of my 2005 Envoy to fix the anti lock brakes. One suggestion, please use some knee pads or cushion! I had to have knee surgery from kneeling on hard surfaces! It may take a few years but it will take it's toll!
Awesome Sir. Blessing Turbo.
Great informative video. loved it
Thank you for the feedback, its appreciated
Great work as always. Thanks Will.
Thank bud, your welcome anytime
Good video. My truck is presenting with similar sounds from the passenger front. No play but the noise is very obvious when that side is loaded while turning.
Thank you, sounds like you may be doing this shortly
only 44 ft/lbs on that tie rod end castle nut is spec. I have both hubs to change on my 2005 Envoy...
was i the only one who saw some movement once he was done and shook the tire?
World of difference. Thanks.
Thank you
Always protect your shaft before you put it in great video man an always lube the tip before entering
Thanks for the video on the "EXACT" make, model & year GMC. How could you possibly get it done without a cuss word or two? I've a sign in my shop that reads HEARING PROTECTION REQUIRED, posted not for the excessive noise but for the occasional "F-bomb" that slips out now & then. Thanx again
Nice vid, and great tips! Thanks! I got a bit tickled too, when your camera assistant started giggling at your ahhhh well choice of words!! Lol
I thought you might quote Eric O, and the classic reach around!!
thank you for the compliment and feedback haha gotta admit that was pretty funny. good times :)
what size gallon is your air compressor?
unfortunately im limited to using a smaller 21 gal 2.5hp do to the the electrical restrictions in this garage. wait till you see the doozy im going to try and resurrect in the new shop lol its an oldie but a goody if we can manage to bring it back to life. i will be doing a vid on it for sure. lots of history in the location im moving into here shortly and power no longer being a limiter. since you asked i figured i will share that with you. a little sneak peak on whats to come
Another good video! Thanks Will! Be sure to keep the great videos and information coming our way! BTW, I like that flex-head ratchet you were using!
Thanks for the compliments, will do. that style ratchet works great in this application
I didnt hear a wheel bearing noise. Sounded like a CV axle to me. Clicking could have been the tie rod though
12:23 min 😂😂😂
thanx for the vid
Awesome, I hope mine goes as good as yours!
OK next time I will torque to spec. Mind you 110 ft lb is on the low side for a hub so there must be some give or squash in the bearing. You must have done a good job measuring the tie rod as the steering wheel was straight when you drove it.
Great job. Is there a particular brand of wheel bearing that you prefer as a replacement?
SKF, Timken, Moog. When it comes to wheel hub assemblies Choices vary. Depends on availability most times, some dont manufacturer all. Those are a common three I see often
This boy uses never seize like Greeks use Windex. Oh man, I got some grease on my hands, just rub a little never seize on there and bingo bango.
Thanks a lot just what I needed
" If you put a little bit on the tip it will lubricate the entire shaft as it goes in. " LOL! Great and informative video Will! Thanks for the laugh too! :)))
True words of wisdom right there lol thanks for stopping by
What's a wheel baron? :) Just busting your chops...I always learn something from your vids. Thanks for posting!
Lol I catch what your saying now haha must be my NY accent coming through, I get questioned on many others as well lol thanks for stopping by
Are you still working as a industrial mechanic, or you doing this full-time?
Great video sir! Pre-load is key! I have watched so many people run em down with the impact and wonder why the vehicle comes back :( On the tie rod ends, did you remember to grease them?!?! I did not see that in the video ;) Thanks again for the video, keep 'em coming! Have a great weekend!
Thank you for the compliment and feedback its appreciated, i did and thanks for pointing that out, i skipped through the tie rod replacement and should have included during editing, i will be sure to add a caption in the video thanks again. hope you have a good one as well
Why do manufacturers make hub bearings where you cant add grease to them, so
they don't run dry from time. My Subaru was a real bear to press out the hub bearing.
Sealed bearing "technology" guess they feel the grease won't break down nor leak under normal conditions within an expected "life expectancy" it's a debated discussion.
What you called chopping on that tire is actually called cupping. Lack of rotation or bad shock/struts cause it
Preload, preload, preload....and laziness. Shops not taking a few seconds to put a torque wrench on a hub assembly, or not not wanting to spend the money on a higher torque value wrench. Kobalt ( Made by Lowes ) makes an excellent 1/2 inch Torque wrench that goes up to 250lbs and has a Lifetime Warranty. One of the only ones that does. I have the 3/8 and 1/2 drive versions and have used them almost dial for almost 5 years without any problems. Aluminum adjustment handle and only cost $59 and $79. I would put them against my snap-on's. .
I agree, laziness takes the cake. i will look into that torque wrench for sure, sounds like a great setup. the one im using in this vid is a Snap-on its been great. i have it checked once a year or if i feel i may have pushed it to far. im sure one day i will. but yea i go 200 max on this one. handle is a little short for much more
Great informative video. Torque to specs and you'll never go wrong. Keep posting, thanks
Thank you, very true. Thanks for stopping by
grasias por el video
I had to replace the same things on my gmc envoy
I couldn't have done a better job myself, Will....{:-)
Thank you for the compliment means a lot. i always look forward to you comments
What size is the axle nut?
