So I have actually driven through "Ong's Hat". Me and my friends would like smoking pot and then drive through the Pine Barrens and randomly we came across this sign in the middle of the woods that said we were in Ong's Hat, something clearly marked by the forrest service. We always called it "Bongs Cap" because we were high and it became a known checkpoint to figure out where we were but I remember googling Ong's Hat like 10 years ago and I came across that wild sci-fi story and it completely blew my mind. Not because it's a good story but for a second it felt like it could be real because if you come across Ong's Hat it's probably by accident, it's just literally in the middle of nowhere. I love New Jersey lore!
I like that you throw in these urban legend conspiracy theories with the criminal conspiracy theories, gives a nice variety instead of always hearing the tormenting and destructive nature of humanity! Keep up the good work!

Really enjoyed this video. I have literally been binge watching your channel at night. My husband lived most of his life in New Jersey. (58 yrs old now, moved to MN in 2008). He grew up in the "Pine Barrens", lived only a few miles from Ongs Hat. He says the woods out there and pretty much all of the pine barrens is pretty creepy at night, and can sometimes surprise you durring the day as well. We really liked the video. Thanks!!

Ong's Hat and Incunabula was one of the first things I became super interested in on the internet, back in the 90s when I was 13. Thanks for making a video about it! I always thought it was so obscure that I'd never hear about it again.

My father knew one of Matheny's associates, a physicist named Nick Herbert. Nick is a real physicist and wrote a few popular physics books, which are pretty good. I wrote him an email introducing myself and asking if the whole Ong's Hat thing was fake (this was before Matheny fessed up). His response was priceless: "That's like asking an attractive woman if her tits are real." Still cracks me up.
I've lived here, born and raised, in SJ my entire life. I've heard of it. Pine Barrens are huge, many legends and many places that have yet to be discovered.

And I kinda love it, an abandoned alternate Earth sounds like something you'd see in an SCP Foundation article (well actually there was one exactly like that).

@@LuisaD93 There are tons of little towns all through the pines that even people who go there all the time have never heard of. If you are into the history of the Pine Barrens may I suggest checking out the book "Forgotten Towns of Southern New Jersey" it's a great read.

Thanks for doing this one. I first heard of Ongs Hat when Art Bell interviewed Joseph Matheny and I was hooked. I knew it had to be fake but it was so interesting. Also, I have a suggestion for a show based on an Art Bell guest in 1998. Look up Dr. Johnathan Reed and his story of confronting an alien while walking in the woods. He bashed the alien with a stick and took body home. He even has photos! It may be fake but it’s a great story with some cool photos and creepy recordings of a screaming alien.

A friend's brother retired from Area 51 and although he never talked about what went on there, she did once say he sometimes referred to the site as Ong's Hat.

YES!! Ong’s Hat is my favorite conspiracy of all time! It has it all! A lost mysterious book list w/ treasure hunt, trans dimensional egg device, tantric sex, multiple dimensions with Earth B, government chases and coverups, missing people (that may never even existed at all), audio taped interviews alluding to a location in NJ. I actually went into the Pine Barrens in the early 90’s looking for this place. Found a closed military base with huge satellite dishes. Told a girl we had to have sex to find the egg. It worked - no egg but some nice conspiracy theory sex. Ah, good times.
I loved the little wink Mike gave when he said it was all fake...probably just a little ploy to fuel the "ARG" factor, or to stir up the conspiracy. Love the humor this guy displays. Endeavor to persevere!

I remember I discovered that show when I was 11 yrs old in 1999, staying up late at night to try and watch scrambled cinemax (skin-emax I believe it was known as LOL) I was always looking for shit to do to keep awake, so naturally I was skimming through the radio one night and thought hey I wonder what's on AM radio? Cut to an open lines coast episode (where people would just call in and talk about ANYTHING) where a woman is talking about how shes been being raped by ghosts in her house for years..... I was hooked immediately lol, I had never heard strange shit like that, especially not being taken seriously on a national platform.

I live about 30 minutes away from Ong's hat, passed through it going to the shore many many times. For years there was a restaurant on the main hwy named Ong's hat and it was a simple place with great food, they've closed down though. But I've lived close all my life, spent a lot of time camping in the pine barrens but never heard this "story" before! I don't think very many people around here ever heard of it either, not even as a hoax! I'm not a young person either, I'm over 50. So I'm curious how you heard about this story at all? Of course I've heard all the stories about Mrs. Leed's 13th child aka the Jersey devil, but not this! What about some stories on the Jersey devil, there are many out there and I'm sure you would be able to tell them well!!
That Ongs Hat diner was right there on Magnolia road a main road between route 70 & route 38, been there many times and your right the food there was great and always plenty at a very reasonable price. It is down now, nothing there but a empty lot and the little homes that was next to it, I'm sure the place is missed by many of us. But I also heard all the different stories about the Leed family and the Jersey devil, I've seen weird things with my own 2 eyes also and just play it off everytime or blamed the dang Jersey devil lol, I myself never heard no story like this though, this is a 1st for me and I have lived in Pemberton Township for 38yrs, now up the road a little more off route 70 in Whiting, Manchester Township which is still a wooded area. Your also absolutely right, this young man is great at telling stories he just has the voice and he is entertaining as he tells the story, just found him but now I'm going to have to watch some of his other stuff... Thanks for doing this one. I first heard of Ongs Hat when Art Bell interviewed Joseph Matheny and I was hooked. I knew it had to be fake but it was so interesting. Also, I have a suggestion for a show based on an Art Bell guest in 1998. Look up Dr. Johnathan Reed and his story of confronting an alien while walking in the woods. He bashed the alien with a stick and took body home. He even has photos! It may be fake but it’s a great story with some cool photos and creepy recordings of a screaming alien.
I've heard both episodes on Art Bell. Loved his shows.

YES!! Ong’s Hat is my favorite conspiracy of all time! It has it all! A lost mysterious book list w/ treasure hunt, trans dimensional egg device, tantric sex, multiple dimensions with Earth B, government chases and coverups, missing people (that may never even existed at all), audio taped interviews alluding to a location in NJ. I actually went into the Pine Barrens in the early 90’s looking for this place. Found a closed military base with huge satellite dishes. Told a girl we had to have sex to find the egg. It worked - no egg but some nice conspiracy theory sex. Ah, good times.
This honestly sounds like a really cool story. I hope he writes a novel.

Especially back in the 90s! Art would let the CRAZIEST shit on that show lol. I remember I discovered that show when I was 11 yrs old in 1999, staying up late at night to try and watch scrambled cinemax (skin-emax I believe it was known as LOL) I was always looking for shit to do to keep awake, so naturally I was skimming through the radio one night and thought hey I wonder what's on AM radio? Cut to an open lines coast episode (where people would just call in and talk about ANYTHING) where a woman is talking about how shes been being raped by ghosts in her house for years..... I was hooked immediately lol, I had never heard strange shit like that, especially not being taken seriously on a national platform.

I live about 30 minutes away from Ong's hat, passed through it going to the shore many many times. For years there was a restaurant on the main hwy named Ong's hat and it was a simple place with great food, they've closed down though. But I've lived close all my life, spent a lot of time camping in the pine barrens but never heard this "story" before! I don't think very many people around here ever heard of it either, not even as a hoax! I'm not a young person either, I'm over 50. So I'm curious how you heard about this story at all?
Of course I've heard all the stories about Mrs. Leed's 13th child aka the Jersey devil, but not this! What about some stories on the Jersey devil, there are many out there and I'm sure you would be able to tell them well!!
That Ongs Hat diner was right there on Magnolia road a main road between route 70 & route 38, been there many times and your right the food there was great and always plenty at a very reasonable price. It is down now, nothing there but a empty lot and the little homes that was next to it, I'm sure the place is missed by many of us. But I also heard all the different stories about the Leed family and the Jersey devil, I've seen weird things with my own 2 eyes also and just play it off everytime or blamed the dang Jersey devil lol, I myself never heard no story like this though, this is a 1st for me and I have lived in Pemberton Township for 38yrs, now up the road a little more off route 70 in Whiting, Manchester Township which is still a wooded area.
