    Axon, the company that makes and sells TASER energy weapons, has an ambitious goal: cut gun-related deaths between police and the public by 50% in 10 years. The company is betting that better, less-than-lethal weapons can contribute to achieving this “moonshot” goal. With smart data and sophisticated training programs to support the technology, Axon is on a mission to bring law enforcement and community stakeholders together and create meaningful change.
    One important component of the plan is the new tech itself-the TASER 10. As the latest iteration of Axon’s signature device, the TASER 10 has a range of 45 feet, comes with 10 probes, and deploys probes with a higher velocity than previous models. The goal is to give police a reliable, non-lethal tool to incapacitate subjects and provide another option to help de-escalate dangerous situations.
    Still, as Axon CEO and Founder Rick Smith told Freethink, technology alone can’t solve a problem as big as gun violence between police and the public. It will also require training, policy, oversight, and public acceptance.

    As long as this fixes the problems with the existing taser, a lot of officers will begin to rely on it more often. Some officers not calling any names or departments out but they just don't use the taser at all unless the suspect is shirtless or thinly clothed because its so unreliable and you get incidents where the taser could have solved it but the officer doesn't trust his weapon and it leads to a fist fight and then a deadly shooting.

    2:22 If you're gonna use non-lethal weapons, you gotta know what you're doing. Without proper training and education, you could seriously hurt or kill someone. There've been cases where things like tasers and rubber bullets ended up causing a lot of damage or even death. So, it's super important to use non-lethal weapons responsibly and only when you really need to.

    I'm not convinced by this Taser, I get that you have accuracy, range and the opportunity to miss and still succeed but the fact that you have to make two shots for it to work still bugs me off.
    I don't know about the US but here in France most of the time I had to draw it, it was when I had to go into an apartment with someone who's possibly armed, you don't have much space or time if someone lunges at you, if the first shot doesn't connect it goes to contact instantly.
    The T7 either hits or miss but that's what you have in a split second, I may be wrong but I think the T10 requires too much time to be effective as you have to make two seperate effective shots instead of one when the person will sometimes be really close to you.

Regular mental evaluations and reviews need to be done. Hiring cops with PTSD from war in the middle east need to end. People who have killed dozens in war are not fit to "protect" and serve. That being said, tasers can be very effective if you know how to use it correctly. Could definitely be good option for officers if a suspect pulls a knife on them, but if they start running at you and they are close by, not a chance they go to a taser as opposed to a firearm. And ofc if the suspect pulls a gun taser ain't gonna be used

    • @aandyherr817
      @aandyherr817 9 месяцев назад

      Having tasers to disable someone who MAY have a gun, or has a weapon or open hands and refuses to comply... it's 100% better to have 1 lethal cover, and 1 LTL cover.
      LTL should never be used if there isn't lethal cover OR if lethal just isn't there... which would be security, or other non-law enforcement encounters. As private-security I think this would be effective in the enviorment im expected to guard. Additionally, having 5 guards respond, 10 shots each per taser, that's alot of chances one of us can make contact, stop a threat, without going lethal or requiring PD/LEOs to be on site and use guns.
      It's better than what we got, it's better than nothing and it's a step forward... People don't fight taser armed officers or guards as much, compared to non-taser officers/guards if they're in their right mind and kinda know whats up. They see it. They hear it. Now, drugs? mental illness? usually doesn't care. that's where EFFECTIVENESS comes into play, if the taser is not EFFECTIVE we got issues then.
      So, it's all situational.

If you miss one of them, it doesn't do anything. If you're too close or too far, the probes will land too close or too apart to shock effectively. You had no control over the arc of the probes, besides managing your distance from the target.
      So now with the new tasers, you have 10 individual shots that fly in a straight line - 1 fired at time. From Axon: The number of electrons delivered (charge and current) is a more meaningful safety measurement than voltage, and the amount of current delivered by all TASER energy weapons is extremely low, about 1/100th of a Christmas tree light bulb. That being said, TASER 10 is low voltage, with a maximum output of about 1,000 volts (compared to Van de Graff generators found in many science museums that discharge up to 20,000 volts with no injury).

    This is a public disobedience issue. Rarely ever a police issue. Blame the aggressors, not the defenders. There are a few communities that have inherent links to crime. Education and escalation are vital.

      There are times when compliance is an issue, but as the police officers in the video themselves note there are many cases where mental health issues are involved, there are cases as mentioned where clear mistakes are made, and others where it is not as simple as good guys and bad guys. There also is still not great data on the contributing factors to these incidents to understand the full picture, which is why more comprehensive research is a big part of the campaign.

    The biggest problem is how police escalate violence or arrests for no real reason. A cop will escalate a jay walking to the point where they arrest, kill or cripple the jay walker. We need a bill of rights and a real national rules of engagement between cops and people.
