  • Colin Cowherd is joined by Danny Parkins to discuss Nick Sirianni being on the hot seat as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, as Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and company are 2-2 on the season so far. Colin & Danny also talk about which coaches they love in the NFL and how schematic coaches like Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs are better than locker room coaches like Dan Campbell of the Detroit Lions.

Eagles are my second team after living there for twenty years... My best friends are Eagles fans with season tickets. My conversations with them on the topic underscored how difficult it would have been for them to can Sirianni in such a short tenure even though he got the team to "The Dance" quickly. The optics say that Philadelphia has a GM that has to much power, so firing Sirianni without giving him another season would be a bad look and make it difficult for coaches to want that job after him and Doug went to the dance, but got canned.
In Howie's defense, that fanbase is so knowledgeable and religous about Football that they don't tolerate downturns well at all.

I live in Philly - the outside perception is not reality.
Howie Roseman leaks to national media over local media to get good national coverage.
The Eagles owner is Jerry Jones- he just doesn’t have weekly press conferences. His son runs the Eagles analytics department with his buddies from Harvard.
Doug Pederson was fed up meeting with Jeff Lurie to justify the game plan every week.
They hire coaches with no experience to make them puppets. Then they make them the fall guy.

    • @damonevans5640

I really think that the organization knew that this guy wasn't all there, and were gun shy when it came to bringing in a high profile coach who would need some degree of control over the operations that the Eagles' brass just weren't ready to give. They already had a power struggle with Doug Pederson before he was fired, and before him they had that debacle with Chip Kelly, who Lurie gave authority to basically put Howie in a back office and break up the Lesean McCoy/Jeremy Maclin/Desean Jackson nucleus of what was already a potent offense. Once Lurie knew that was a mistake, I think they vowed never to give up that type of control again.
There was absolutely no reason to fire Doug Pederson after that SB, and all he wanted was control over his staff, and they fired him. Now, here we are and Sirianni is working hard to being an impediment to the overall success of the team now, despite Hurt's troubles at the moment. Now, it's only four games so we'll see what happens the rest of the way, but as an Eagles fan, I have my doubts.

If you had really done your homework, you'd know that the Lions offense doesn't belong to Ben Johnson alone and won't leave with him if he takes a coaching job. Details matter. This offense was built before Johnson was the OC, when Campbell fired Anthony Lynn, assumed play-calling duties while taking all responsibility, and started feeding a rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown 10 targets a game. This thing is very much a collaborative effort between Campbell, Johnson and most importantly - Jared Gof, and one of the things that Campbell always does is pass praise along to others and reject it for himself. Leadership out of this world, but make no mistake about his "schematic mind". It's hilarious and won't age well how so many members of the national media have such a simplistic and nuance-free perception of the Lions, and especially Campbell, despite the team's continued trajectory upward.

    • @harrisonevans772

I think Campbell is 10x the coach Siriani is, not taking anything away from him. The Eagles saw a massive regression in the offense once Steichen went to the Colts. I think if Johnson leaves, it will definitely impact the offense negatively. Maybe not as much as Steichen leaving Philly, but there is a reason everyone wants Johnson right now. Praying they can Siriani and hire Johnson.

Purdy is not a HOF QB, but he is a very solid QB, processes well, anticipates well, has good athleticism, good accuracy, has some degree of hard-nosed toughness, is a good leader and is a willing student for Shanahan. That all adds up to success. In other words, he’s what a QB SHOULD be. But somewhere along the line, the NFL got caught up in measureables and in trying to get the super-athletic QB. They even created a stat, QBR, which factors running ability in as a prominent factor. It’s the old ‘have your cake and eat it too’ syndrome.

This year we have another new OC. I think the offense is going to get better but at the same time patience is required because this OC and the offense is very different than what Jalen has been accustomed to. Moore will be good enough to get us winning if *SIRIANNI CAN KEEP HIS DANG HANDS OFF THIS OFFENSE*
Edit: Jalen thrived w a good OC we had a few years ago. (See Steichen).

I actually liked Nick's first press conference, it wasn't that bad,...I truly think that a lot of the people who slammed it never actually watched it and just got their opinions from the talking heads,...that being said, Nick is nothing more than a cheerleader, I would have fired him this bye week and replaced him with Kellen Moore.

It's funny how people want to talk about Jalen playing bad and he has played awful. Key is Jalen and the rest of the team have played awful when Nick has say in playing calling. The times the entire team plays like crappy is when Nick has to much involvement. It's just time for the Organization to move on from Nick.

What is nick siriannis coaching record?
I think were overreacting to a loss that was missing eagles 3 of its best 4 offensive players
Didnt Colin think Sirianni would be a losing head coach because he stammered once during his first press conference?

Say what you want about sirianni but he didn’t make that stupid decision to take the ball in overtime during the superbowl, then in the presser admitted he didn’t know the rules. Sirianni is far from a bad coach

Never should of gotten rid of the offensive coordinator from the Superbowl appearance against the chiefs. Hurts is a running qb and game manager not the best passer not very accurate and turns the ball over way to much. We have no backup QB so hurts needs to step it up or move on.
