Oh well atleast their chest rigs had MP-5 mags... Most TV shows wouldn't have bothered with that detail... So I'll give the accidental the belt AR mags a pass, especially if I was working wardrobe and knew the next filming day setup! 😂
Agreed actually. Having former SOF guys on the cast & involved behind the scenes makes a noticeable difference from a show like SWAT for example, which is in brutal need of some technical advisors. Has a pretty sick soundtrack too for a TV show 👍🏻👍🏻
@@luc-richardphotography9533 I think "The Unit" was certainly entertaining and def better than SWAT but I highly doubt its as authentic as SEAL team as there is almost no information on how 1st SFOD-D operates.

And plot marksmanship too. They're shooting 9mm HK carbines vs the enemy's 7.62 AK rifles for crying out loud. You'd think the AK bullets would go through aluminum car panels, but no it doesn't. Meanwhile the 9mm shreds everything it hits though.
A lot of film and TV productions have stopped using blanks and squibs due to the cost and the safety aspect, and are doing muzzle flashes etc digitally now; does anyone know if this show does it practically or with CGI? If it's CGI, it looks very well done.
The idea is suppression. Rifle rounds still suppressed produce loud sound. While mp5 SD with a suppressor and a subsonic ammo combo basically is very very quiet.

I have not seen the Unit but I have heard good things. I am a big fan of this show. Season 4 is ok... not as good as season 1 - 3. They have good character development for about each character. Some more than others. And yes, families are covered. Troubles with PTSD, divorce, kids, etc. I honestly say they do a very good job. I am told they work with real seal team operators and try to make it as realistic as possible. So I would recommend! Happy to answer any questions :)

This is one of very few episodes they don’t use M4’s with eotechs and suppressors. It was a black ops mission so they couldn’t have any proof of US presence. And they knew it was going to be all close quarters. Pretty good show, only one worth watching, two of the guys were real SF so they trained the actors as well as they could
In most episodes of the series they use the HK416 with optics, laser sights and suppresors. Really the only time they go with the SMGs is when they know it's going to be close quarters or they need to be discreet. If you notice, they don't have any symbols on their gear. Normally, they have the american flag on their chest plates
As the Team Leader said in the scene, sometimes you have to choose the least bad of several choices. (Or, more accurately, to his No.2 "Do you want to Stay Out Here and be Shot at?")
Compared to the rest of military tv shows this is probably the best believe it or not. Two of the guys were real SF so they trained these Hollywood boys as well as they could be. They just killed off the most experienced real life operator in the season 4 finale. I’m expecting quality to go down unless they replace him with someone equal.
Dumb ass they wear that because it’s a low risk mission if they wear full kit that means they are going up against a platoon of enemy or dozens of enemy’s
I was especially surprised to see that considering the military advisors on the show are seasoned SOF veterans and that the actor portraying Brock is a police officer.
Maybe this is due to the fact that they need to be super quiet. MP5 suppressed will be a lot quieter than MP7 suppressed coz MP7 rounds travel at supersonic in order to defeat body armor
@@arthurau6438 in the scene where they pile out of the truck, the element of surprise was gone, so suppressed MP7’s would insure to potentially defeat enemy body armor yet keep the dB’s low. MP5’s with subsonic 9mm would not defeat armor. I realize I am overthinking this since this is just a TV show and nearby enemy friendlies would not be aware of their attack if they used suppressed MP7’s. I agree with you but hey that’s just me go with the new out with the old.
Not to belabor the point but, I also realize that the gun wrangler probably had to use fake rubber guns and probably had a pile of rubber MP5’s and one or two working MP5 SMGs and no MP7s - real or fake rubber ones available.
So I'm not going to say I'm a expert on this because I'm not and I don't know If they have a former Devgru advisor on the show telling them how to move and shoot but I don't think Mp5's were the right weapon of choice. I would have gone with a 416 configured for CQB
@keirboyko Under the international rules of war all combatants must be clearly marked otherwise one side can attack civilians and say they were enemies in civilian clothing. Covert ops doesn't make it legal. It's breaching the fundamental rules of war. It would allow anyone to attack civilians and justify it by saying they were legal combatants dressed as civilians like what the USA did when they were drone striking journalists and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.
