  • Releasing the Habits that Imprison Your Spirit, Part 2 - Tara Brach [2023-05-17]
Addictions of all levels of intensity arise from disconnection and are spiking globally. Humans are experiencing epidemic levels of loneliness, and this combined with engineered products and substances that are highly addictive leads to great suffering. In these two talks, we explore how we get hooked on behaviors that we know cause harm, and how mindfulness and self-compassion can serve our freedom. Key to this process is reconnecting with our inner life, and remembering we are in this together, awakening together.

Im so grateful to have found your channel recently. I watched part 1 yesterday, and Im starting part 2 now. I'm a recovering meth addict and you pretty much hit it on the bullseye, we go to meetings to connect and help eachother stay clean. I look forward to seeing more of your content as it seems to really resonate with me. These videos are no small thing, I mean you had my undevided attention for an hour in early meth recovery, thats a miracle. Love and Graditude.

another level of awareness of how I have very little self compassion 🙏🏻. so many years of work on self. more compassion for others still suffer from self judgement self criticism. another level of understanding how self criticism persists. addictions overcome
    I just ignore my needs
I am now investigating my feelings of the disconnect
Thank you for this deeper understanding🙏🏻

You hurt those of us that don’t have friends when you say those kinds of things. It’s really hard to be this alone. People assume that people have friends and family. That assumption does a lot of damage and could even be fatal in some cases.

Greetings. Bonding!? Took me that bc that's so what I want with OTHERS, with MYSELF. As a African in America dying for a community of people to belong to on this wellness journey yet full of SO MUCH that keeps me from even trying to step out and find them, even not being able to listen when they have been presented to me. I could very well have missed this person or that group bc I was listening or able to hear. Bonding with sweats, substances and media instead yet ti know the health declines and falsehoods in these relations ships. Fear....is gripping. Bless

I appreciate your focus on self compassion. That said, AA, NA and other 12-step programs are HIGHLY triggering for many who have tried them. Would be easier to hear your message if you didn't refer to 12 step programs. Perhaps you can refer to them anonymously. 😉

is it possible to be addicted to being self-hating Tara? I don’t seem to go to a behaviour that brings any relief but have an unbelievable propensity to be negative towards myself.

    • @humbleseekeroftruthwisdom6063

It may be a way of “cutting yourself“, as I used to do in a kind of addiction, although mine was thinking, bad thoughts about myself, nothing physical. It can be a bad story about ourselves, that we keep telling ourselves over and over, perhaps a form of self-pity, maybe sit down and write out the worst thoughts about yourself, and then counter them with ever so slightly better thoughts about yourself. Even a little upliftment, I have found, can change your mood for the better. One of the mistakes I have made is comparing myself to othersAnd feeling that I got the short end of the stick. I am learning that it is my choice How do I think about myself.
