  • Keeper Jess introduces us to the unique and amazing world of the platypus. An animal so bizarre it was once thought a hoax made up of different parts of other animals.
Healesville Sanctuary has been more successful than any other zoo in the world when it comes to breeding platypus and Jess introduces us to our latest youngster, four month old baby Storm.

Such odd looking little creatures but adorable at the same time. They seem otter-like in their playfulness. 10 days for the eggs to hatch is SO QUICK! Looking forward to learning more 😊

G'day. I was up in the high country in November. Is Dargo on the Great Alpine Hwy?
      I remember going through Cobungra......
The rivers and streams up there are so clean.
I made a stop at Middle Creak picnic ground on the Omeo Hwy, river was running really fast.....wondering what wildlife would live around there?
      Platypuses maybe?

    Brilliant video.
So proud of the sanctuary's world leading Platypus program.
I've had the priviledge of seeing an Echidna up close in country Victoria however I'd love to see a Platypus so coming to the sanctuary whilst back in Melbourne in April.

So cool. Their bills look like it was an afterthought by God! They seem to be just sort of stuck on their faces aren't they ?! Adorable. Thanks for posting. ---a fan in SW Florida 33909
