  • If you want to be a profitable poker player (cash game or tournament) you need a solid preflop strategy! In this video I break down my best beginner strategies to help you master preflop poker!
Preflop poker is not about memorizing exact ranges and trying to replicate it perfectly! It’s about having good fundamentals and good preflop mechanics!
Remember that your position matters. In early position you should generally raise first in (RFI) with a tighter range whereas in later position you can start to raise with a wider range of hands.
Preflop Beginner Tip 1 - Position Matters
Preflop Beginner Tip 2 - Do NOT Play Too Loose
Preflop Beginner Tip 3 - How to Play in the Small Blind
Preflop Beginner Tip 4 - Play Cautiously Multi-way
Preflop Beginner Tip 5 - Do NOT Only Push or Fold
Take my poker fundamentals quiz here and find out how well YOU know poker strategy: pokercoaching.com/fundamental...
I break down some of the most important poker fundamentals such as poker positions, playing aggressively preflop and post-flop (with lots of 3-betting) and what bet size to use in different spots. I’ll also help you tackle some of the mental game challenges you’ll run into, such as how to approach luck in poker and how to leave your ego at the door!
On this Poker Coaching channel we cover a weekly poker topic to help improve your poker strategy!
In order to take your poker game to the next level it is vitally important you learn all the nuances of the game.
Do you know what ranges of poker hands you should be playing from each position? When should you 3-bet, call or fold? When is the right time to make a hero call or a huge bluff? Do you know how to play preflop, flop, turn & river effectively and how should your poker strategy change depending on the street? What difference does it make if you are playing multi-way vs heads-up?

I like to come back to the beginner videos from time to time even with 4 years of almost daily play. It's a good reminder of what got me $100k in debt.

Really have been enjoying the information you put out on poker. I am a beginner and playing the smallest stakes, $2-$10 buy in online tournaments, and have consistently been making the final table. Every time I move up in stakes I am blown away by the difference in the amount of 3-betting and end up folding my equity hands. This video helps me understand how to better react to my opponents. Thank you!

I’d like to see something like “difference between 100BB and deeper cash games” because even tool on poker coaching have only 200bb max on cash, and now usually stacks are deeper than 200 very soon from the start

Amazing. I basically only know the rules and how to 'guess well' based on other players actions, and actually want to get decent outside of just my group of friends and this is what I've been looking for.
Other people just assumed that telling me that to play a 'KQo as an LJ is too loose of a range'. Like nothing about that made sense to me, let alone knowing what it meant. Now it does and I do.

I’m not sure if you’ve covered this in another video but something I encounter every hand in my local 1/3 game are frequent limpers from every position. I’m not complaining at all here and it’s an extremely profitable game, but I’ve also been curious what the gto rfi ranges should be in various positions facing a number of limpers. I’m assuming that rfi needs to be a strong linear range getting slightly looser with position and possible limp behind with hands that hold nut/implied odd potential if there’s a good chance of limping through?
Also great content as always Jonathan!

hear me out, sb in a 3 way pot is the best spot to bluff because they will always give you more credit than they should without you having to do anything. combining that with good sizing and a decent board is a super easy bluff to get through when your able to.

@5:11 vs UTG, why is KJs raised but KQs not? Seems weird to play the weaker hand stronger.

Struggling to raise when I have a hand. Played my first live tourney today in almost 15 years, was way too nit but it was only $50. Got stacked early. Went all in with QQ vs 10’s, he hit a 10 on the flop and I hit a straight on the river.
knocked out 7 out of 20. AJd vs AQc. Was at about 8bb with blinds about to go up
