Ceviche with rice akin to having a hamburger with spaghetti. I am sure that I can go to the mid-west and eat prairie oysters and show them as an American delicacy. No thank you.
Hello how are you! Peruvian here, first of all enjoy your trip in my country. I feel obliged to give you some tips. Peru has 3 regions "La costa, la sierra and la selva", each region has typical dishes, for example: La Costa (For example Lima): Ceviche, Lomo Saltado, Chaufa, Pollo a la brasa. In Cuzco I recommend the restaurant "La Cusqueñita" in "Regional" street. Definitely the food experience should be better and more delicious for you, guys. Greetings from Spain.
We definitely want to try some food in Lima (or another coastal city) now after all these comments haha... Unfortunately at the end of our Peru trip we got VERY sick (either from altitude or some food we still don't know) and had to leave... Next time we hope to explore more and try more food in more places. Hope you enjoyed the video at least a little bit! We are editing a Machu Picchu video next 🙏🇵🇪

I recommend that you try ceviche or Lomo Saltado in Lima, as they are typical dishes from here. Also, you should eat street food (anticuchos, picarones, papa rellena, mazamorra morada, salchipapa, etc.) if you want to have the real experience of being in Peru 😋. Alameda Chabuca Granda is a good option to try them, it's like an avenue.
@@WyattandReyka You should not mix many different meals in one day; most tourists may dislike it because they are not used to it. Even we take care of ourselves, we already know that foods are a little heavy and we try not to combine so much.
My wife is from Peru and I ate at that same market in July lol. First of all I thought the food there sucked, it was really low quality and even though it is cheap, it just wasn't worth it. Go to the little restaurants, which might be more pricey, but the food is way way better. Had the best trout ceviche in Machu Picchu town for 40 soles. Also I have never seen arroz chaufa or ceviche served that way lol. Ceviche doesn't come with rice and arroz chaufa isn't supposed to be cold, it's just chinese fried rice. Veggies looked good though!

U guys should try peruvian food in Lima. Cuzco is not THAT good about food although the city is really beatiful and have plenty stuff to do. I hope u guys enjoy ur stay 😃

Ceviche should be eaten alone, without combining it with rice (!!) or another dish. You can add canchita (a type of fried kernels) and sweet potatoes or even sweet corn. Nothing else. Pairs very well with fried calamari or fish taquitos.
We definitely want to try some food in Lima (or another coastal city) now after all these comments haha... And with taquitos it would be really good! The ceviche in the video didn’t look good. In Lima, we prepare it differently, and I believe ceviche should be eaten near the sea for freshness. As a premium dish, good ceviche typically costs around 40 soles, so it shouldn’t be too cheap. On the Peruvian coast, it’s served in its own juice, and this style has won international awards. No offense to the chefs intended.
I believe you tried the wrong Ceviche in a wrong place! The ceviche is from the Coast! So any place in the coast would be good! Not at the mountain like Cusco! 😅 you got all food in a really wrong place! 😢
Try ceviche in Lima or in the north coast of the country (Tumbes, Piura, Chiclayo and Trujillo). Trying ceviche in the Andes is like trying ceviche abroad.
Not true at all. Ceviche is different in every part of Peru. They have their own version of it. In Cusco, they usually eat ceviche with arroz chaufa and the fish could be trucha. Just bcz you don’t know a place you can’t say that it’s like “eating abroad”.
The food in Cuzco was delicious! But obviously we'd love to explore more places. Next time when we have more days and stay healthy throughout the country (we got very sick at the end of this trip), we will try more food. Cheers! Thanks for the helpful critiques! 🙏🇵🇪🥰
Nice video guys! But I subscribe to what people say in the comments: Cusco is not the best place to eat Ceviche or Seafood. In Cusco, there are good dishes like Cuy al horno, Trucha frita, Lechón al horno, Capchi... Try to eat Ceviche again but in Lima. You will see the difference. Good luck!

I'm a Peruvian who lives in Lima, and that was the worst ceviche and chaufa I've ever seen in my life. You’ve got to try them in Lima; every region of Peru has its own specialties with certain dishes.

Awesome video, you two! One thing to add, the singular of "Soles" is "Sol" (The currency, but it means "sun"). Why? In Spanish, nouns that end with a consonant are pluralized by adding "es" at the end, rather than only "s" like in English. Same thing with how in the US people call "tamales" a "tamale"- it really should be "tamal". Hello from New Jersey!!
I thought the same as everyone else watching the video while you were eating ceviche, lol, cebiche is a dish that is eaten without rice, but it's okay 😅, When you return to Lima, try those dishes at some restaurants, and you'll notice the difference ✌, enjoy the rest of your trip here in Peru!

Every region in Peru has its own version of ceviche. Cusco ceviche maybe not the most appealing for Peruvians. But at the end it’s up to you guys to choose the one you like the most. Lima ceviche is ok. Not the best either. They put some seaweed and other funny ingredients, and the fish they use in Lima is not the best. The best ceviche is definitely the ceviche from the northern part of Peru (Piura - Tumbes) We use “Mero” (🐟) as the main ingredient. Mero is an expensive fish, and we pay the price because we know it is the best fish for ceviche. We add lemon, (real lemon, not bottled citric acid), a little bit of red onions and a taste of salt. And that’s it. As simple and delicious as that. As side dish you can have sarandajas, cancha, arroz con sarandaja (yes, you can have rice with ceviche) camote, yuca sancochada, etc. I have not try ceviche from the jungle yet. Mexican ceviche 1/10 for the effort (you wouldn’t dare to add ketchup or mayo to sushi, so why would you add them to ceviche??) Ecuadorian ceviche 1/10 for the effort. Salvadorian ceviche 1/10 for the effort. Dominican ceviche 1/10 for the effort. On a different topic, did you guys drink the “tea” already?? 😊
@@WyattandReykaThe “altitud” tea is the best. Been in Machupicchu several times and every time I get sick so I have tried different (occidental) medications over the years, and the only thing it really helps is the tea … word !!
It's so good ,not see bad comments from mexicans people to any Peruvian publish or something related to Perú. Unfortunatly this people can't hear nothing good of Perú because instantly they are throwing hate everywhere, really dissapointing this people
You guys went there for “Semana Santa” (holy week)? I’m from Cusco (I live in the US now and they only sell those in the Holy week. Omg I miss Cusco so much 😭
We kinda knew that but we figured they were popular year round too. Either way we are stoked to have visited and tried those desserts! 🥰 And yes Cuzco is so amazing!!
in tourist areas you're fine. just common sense, but it isn't super common for something to happen to a tourist. Most things I saw are people going into the jungle for those "getting high" ceremonies where stuff goes down. I think recently a Russian woman was killed by a Ukrainian guy who got high on that stuff.
Hiya ceviche is a dish from the coast, the ocean is faaar away from the highlands in Cuzco, fish needs to be the catch of the day only, but I guess cusqueños did their best to make that ceviche
Hi there! Definitely next time we are in Levi Costa city in Peru we will try the ceviche there. But yeah! Cusco was pretty good! Thanks so much for watching and appreciate your message! 🥰
Love your videos and your vibes but I agree with what a lot of people in the comments. In general, for food Lima is the place to taste peruvian food, especially ceviche.
Thanks for the awesome words!! And for sure... Next time in Peru, we will do a food tour in a coastal city! Hope you're enjoying our Peruvian series at least! We are editing Machu Picchu now 🙏🇵🇪🥰

Did you take anything for the altitude sickness? When you got out of breath, did it help to slow down? I'm going in a few weeks lol and I'm more anxious about that than anything lol😅
Hi!! Thanks so much for the question! So excited for you to go on this trip! It’s a blast 🥰 We didn’t take anything for the altitude besides drinking a LOT of water haha. A lot of folks here in the comments are recommending Coca leaves! I bet you could ask locals and they’d provide them 😊

Muchas gracias amigo!!
Hey guys, I noticed some inaccuracies in your coverage of Peruvian food. Ceviche, for instance, is traditionally never served with rice, and it's best enjoyed on the coast, rather than in a market in Cusco. Additionally, the sweets and unusual snacks you tried for a few pennies aren't really representative of our rich culinary culture. Peru's gastronomy has won numerous awards and earned global recognition, and we're incredibly proud of that heritage. The following is a video that explain Peruvian food and dishes you should be trying. ruclips.net/video/DVaW3yyOm4k/видео.htmlsi=1dKe3VkBRqVT3LRY

@@WyattandReyka Thank you for your response. Altitude sickness is no joke-it can seriously affect your trip, so it’s great to be prepared. Something that might be new to you is that, at times, Americans are perceived as being somewhat superficial or ethnocentric, which is even humorously captured in the old movie If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium. Of course, this is just a generalization and doesn't apply to everyone. I've been fortunate to travel extensively around the world, starting when I was your age and often on a budget as well. I hope your journey is just the beginning of discovering new perspectives and learning from different cultures. Safe travels! 😊
That’s awesome you’ve traveled a lot!!! We love meeting fellow travelers. And yeah… the superficial stereotype can definitely be true across the country, but as with all stereotypes, they’re mostly wrong and only a little bit right. OMG hahaha , be prepared for the Peruvian comments. This food you guys ate was kinda crazy! lol Mercados are normally to go and buy fruits and veggies, just that.
As a Peruvian I can say that this "ceviche and chaufa" was a totally different version of the real dishes They didn't even look similar to the real ones. Also the Lomo saltado was made in other way.
And to be honest It could be a little dangerous for your stomachs if you eat in that kinda establishment. Next time be careful and only took recommendations from serious people :) Thnx for your content!

Greetings. Ceviche is a dish that is not served with rice. They gave it a strange combination, Ceviche with Chaufa Rice apparently. I think the saleswoman was wrong, 1 corresponded to Ceviche and 5 to Arroz Chaufa; He misunderstood and combined it, in two dishes.
Wow. Yeah, that makes sense now. Thanks for figuring that out for us! We want to do a food tour in a coastal city next time in Peru! Hope you're enjoying our Peruvian series at least! We are editing Machu Picchu now 🙏🇵🇪🥰
LOL. That happens when traveling to a country without doing any homework. Getting sweets for pennies from the local market and presenting it as the typical food from Peru? Perhaps the plan is visiting 28 countries in 35 days. Who knows.

@@WyattandReyka I am glad to read your comments with the right attitude. Thanks. You are traveling to expand your horizons; you both even speak Spanish which not common for Americans to speak a second language. Did you know that Mark Twain wrote: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” ?
You need to try ceviche in Lima not Cuzco. They add too many starch on a dish, roasted corn, potato, corn and sweet potato. That Lomo saltado also looked like a kid made it. Eat in Lima please 🙏🏼
What they did I would never recommend to a tourist, unless my intention is to make them never come back. Wherever you go, ask what the typical food of the area is and try that. Ceviche and Lomo Saltado are dishes best eaten by the sea, in coastal areas like Lima or Piura, and if you want a good gastronomic experience and not just to fill your stomach, look for recommendations.
You keep eating in the cheapest places, you are lucky if you don't get sick trying all those food at once, also altitud in Cuzco you should eat light the first or second day, its normal to get sick if you don't. My friend did't follow that rule, and we had to skip a tour for that. That's why I ask recommendations from locals, in the hotel or a tour guide. Just be care where you eat

Nice video guys, unfortunately no the best place to do a video about Peruvian food. You should have done it in Lima, Ceviche, is a dish from the coast of Peru. and that Arroz Chaufa looks terrible ,hint its not a cold dish and does not contain corn(cancha) same with the Lomo Saltado. Personally wrong place to try food from the coast. Cusco its know form a different cuisine like Guinea pigs, Pachamanca which is a mix of marinated meats (Lamb, alpaca, LLama, pork, chiken, beef) and potatoes cooked underground in the earth cover with hot stones and herbs. Pachamanca in Quechua Language means "earth Pot". maybe next trip. Nice Videos!

Why would you eat ceviche at Cusco? The best seafood is found along the coast line in places like piura, Lima or Callao. And that lomo look overcooked . There are other cities and places to do a real Peruvian food tour

you guys are eating the weirdest things in the wrong places on your visit lol, it kind of hurts seeing you have ceviche in a mercado in cusco where there is no access to fresh fish and the recipe has been torn apart. Also your choice of sweet treats is way too bland for the real goodies there are out there. @@WyattandReyka you got sick because you ate ceviche in a Mercado, basically, that's a NO!! And as a Peruvian, I haven't heard about the desserts you ate. You probably got poisoned by the water in some places, or the food (the lomo saltado meat for example) I haven't seen that color in my life. Thats why was so cheap. You anyways... definitely go back and eat in other places and foods! If you want to eat Peruvian street food maybe the best place in lima is Barranco.
It was pretty good! Cusco can definitely make some ceviche! But for sure the next time we are in Lima or any city on the coast in Peru we will try this ceviche from there where it is probably more fresh!🥰🙏
Loved that you tried different things but as a Peruvian, this was so painful to watch 🥲 You made all the wrong choices. Cusco has AMAZING restaurants, same as Lima and other parts of Perú. Ceviche should be eaten at specialized sea-food restaurants, in the coastal region -> CEVICHERIAS

Ceviche should be eaten alone, without combining it with rice (!!) or another dish. You can add canchita (a type of fried kernels) and sweet potatoes or even sweet corn. Nothing else. Pairs very well with fried calamari or fish taquitos.

Thank you so much!!! We are so glad to have made your day! Greetings! 🙏🇵🇪🥰
That's what I thought at first sight. Ceviche con arroz? Eso es sacrilegio.
Put the ceviche in your ass and just be happy how hot it is. This is Cusco MF 😂

Thank you so much!! Good correction 🥰 our Spanish little by little is becoming better. Cheers and hope you’re doing well in New Jersey ❤️

You guys are so brave ❤❤ I am Peruvian and i can eat street food 😂😂😂
Haha it was good! We loved the street food 🥰🙏
Mexican ceviche 1/10 for the effort (you wouldn’t dare to add ketchup or mayo to sushi, so why would you add them to ceviche??)
Ecuadorian ceviche 1/10 for the effort.
Salvadorian ceviche 1/10 for the effort.
Dominican ceviche 1/10 for the effort.
On a different topic, did you guys drink the “tea” already?? 😊
Mucho floro

Is it safe in Peru?
in tourist areas you're fine. just common sense, but it isn't super common for something to happen to a tourist. Most things I saw are people going into the jungle for those "getting high" ceremonies where stuff goes down. I think recently a Russian woman was killed by a Ukrainian guy who got high on that stuff.
We felt safe the whole time!! Loved our time there. Can't wait to come back haha
Hiya ceviche is a dish from the coast, the ocean is faaar away from the highlands in Cuzco, fish needs to be the catch of the day only, but I guess cusqueños did their best to make that ceviche

It was a blast! Good food. Definitely want to try ceviche on the coast though next time 🇵🇪 🥰🙏
You keep eating in the cheapest places, you are lucky if you don't get sick trying all those food at once, also altitud in Cuzco you should eat light the first or second day, its normal to get sick if you don't. My friend did't follow that rule, and we had to skip a tour for that.
That's why I ask recommendations from locals, in the hotel or a tour guide.
Just be care where you eat
Thank you for the tip! Yeah we did end up getting sick haha. We’ll be careful next time 🥰
9:01 No lady, that's definitely not ceviche.
We definitely want to redo this food tour now after all these comments haha... Unfortunately at the end of our Peru trip we got VERY sick (either from altitude or some food we still don't know) and had to leave before exploring all that we wanted to.. Next time we hope to explore more and try more food in more places. Hope you enjoyed the video at least a little bit! We are editing a Machu Picchu video next 🙏🇵🇪
We definitely want to try some food in Lima now after all these comments haha...
Min 9:07. Did you say...culo de tigre? 🤔
JUGO de Tigre 😂
I can see you are discover all by yourself without advises or without asking ... that's a risk because... ceviche in Cuzco?? Come on...
We totally hear you and we want to make a better video in the future. Unfortunately at the end of our Peru trip we got VERY sick (either from altitude or the food we still don't know) and had to leave... Next time we hope to explore more and try more food. Hope you enjoyed the video at least a little bit! We are editing a Machu Picchu video next 🙏🇵🇪
Why would you eat ceviche at Cusco? The best seafood is found along the coast line in places like piura, Lima or Callao. And that lomo look overcooked . There are other cities and places to do a real Peruvian food tour
The food was delicious! But obviously we'd love to explore more places. Next time when we have more days and stay healthy throughout the country. Cheers! thanks for the helpful critiques! 🙏🇵🇪🥰
lolll why are u guys eating ceviche in Cusco 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah… we didn’t think about it at all 🤣
Cusco isnt the Best place to eat, u must explore peruvian food in lima! Spend a few days only for eating
Definitely!! We can’t wait to eat more food in Lima next time 🥰🙏
Cuzco's food is great, however, cebiche or any Peruvian seafood it not their specialty. You should have tried in Lima or any other coastal city.
Next time we will eat Ceviche on the coast. Thanks for the message! 🇵🇪🥰🙏
That is not the original ceviche 😢
Next time we will eat Ceviche on the coast, don't worry 🇵🇪🥰🙏
Kinda feel sorry for them for having a bad experience without them knowing
Lol we had a great experience! Definitely want to do a food tour in a coastal city next time in Peru though! Hope you're enjoying our Peruvian series at least! We are editing Machu Picchu now 🙏🇵🇪🥰
@@WyattandReyka I am! I'm from Perú myself and haven't been there in 25 years! If you want the best food experience visit Arequipa my hometown, guaranteed you'll love it! Be safe guys.
Thank you so much!! 😊 We are so glad you are enjoying it. Where do you live, now? And we unfortunately got a bit sick in Cuzco and weren't able to visit all the places in Peru we wanted to... But next time!! Thanks so much!!
you guys are eating the weirdest things in the wrong places on your visit lol, it kind of hurts seeing you have ceviche in a mercado in cusco where there is no access to fresh fish and the recipe has been torn apart. Also your choice of sweet treats is way too bland for the real goodies there are out there. Your vibes are really good tho, but I feel you are missing on the real awarded peruvian cuisine by not doing some research beforehand.
Thank you for your kind words!! 🥰 And lol we ALWAYS get critiques in the comments whenever we make a food tour. But we totally hear you and we want to make a better video in the future. Unfortunately at the end of our Peru trip we got VERY sick (either from altitude or the food we still don't know) and had to leave... Next time we hope to explore more. Hope you at least enjoyed the video a little bit! We are editing a Machu Picchu video next 🙏🇵🇪
If you want to eat Peruvian street food maybe the best place in lima is Barranco.
ceviche from cusco is not the traditional one 🥲
Yes we will try ceviche in Lima next time! 🥰
Ceviche is a coast meal, Cuzco is not the best place for eat it
It was pretty good!
Yes, restaurants could be more expensive but trust me, you would have enjoyed your food experience way more. Actually, some of the restaurants on those lists are very affordable 🙌
Hahahaha so sorry it was painful!!! We really enjoyed it personally 😅
Which restaurant should we try next time?? 🤔
eating ceviche in Cusco? Rofl , Ceviche is a coastal dish, with fresh fish from the sea
Definitely we will do a food tour in a coastal city next time in Peru! Hope you're enjoying our Peruvian series at least! We are editing Machu Picchu now 🙏🇵🇪🥰
Guys , it’s doesn’t hurt to do a proper research before making a video on a Peruvian food tour . You obviously picked the wrong places to do so
Lol we ALWAYS upset people in the comments whenever we make a food tour. But we totally hear you and we want to make a better video in the future. Unfortunately at the end of our Peru trip we got VERY sick (either from altitude or the food we still don't know) and had to leave... Next time we hope to explore more.
