After a little over 2 weeks of use, this has been the best gaming monitor I've ever used. While not perfect, the color accuracy, vibrancy, and buttery smoothness made this a winner in my book. Can't wait to keep gaming on this bad boy!
with the price drop, it's actually the same or less than the alienware ones, so you don't have to pay a "premium" anymore. I'm still waiting on the OLED G9, though.
So I currently own both the G8 and the DWF and I’m genuinely stuck on what monitor to keep. The G8 has to my eyes a noticeably brighter and the vibrancy on it is just really amazing, don’t know why it may be that they use a better coating on it. Funnily enough I am also mildly Red Green color blind! So I will be using your reviews moving forward! To my eyes If I push digital Vibrancy on the Nvidia Slider to 70% vs the default 50 then the Alienware matches the color output of the Samsung and you get those stunning vibrant images, especially in true HDR content (meaning no Auto-HDR), my only issue with the DWF besides aesthetics (which I can live with) is that for some reason I don’t find the image as vivid on certain games, not sure if it’s that the Samsung is brighter and therefore gives me the illusion that the in-game lighting is brighter in games with bad lighting (the in game lighting in FFXIV kinda sucks) but when comparing on hdr videos or natively supported hdr games the picture is identical. So obviously a no brainer right? Keep the G8 and return the DWF but here’s the issue with that, the G8 actually has worse HDR EOTF tracking than the DWF and it’s noticable in side by side tests and just gameplay in general (don’t worry the HDR tracking isn’t terrible, it’s genuinely very good but when comparing the two side by side after the new firmware update the DWF is noticeably better in peak brightness hdr scenes (samsung tends to overdo the brightness in peak scenes and messes with the overall image). The second issue is the wake from sleep bug, it’s so genuinely annoying that I have to power cycle my machine from time to time to get the monitor working. I would do hdmi 2.1 but my GTX 1080 doesn’t support it so I would be severely limiting myself in Hz on the monitor. Basically what do you think would be the best approach here? Keep the G8 for the minor (but still noticeable visual Improvements or just keep the DWF and wait for the next gen G8 OLED from Samsung? TLDR: Have both the G8 and the DWF after the recent firmware update. Not sure which to keep, both have tradeoffs
I bought this one as a birthday gift and oh man, what a treat! It’s a great monitor which I use mainly for gaming, very pleased with my purchase, the visuals look stunning (alas, I have an RTX 4090 powering it all). Great purchase and nice review!
There's an issue waking from sleep when using the DP cable. Using Hdmi it works fine. Allegedly, There's been a software update to address it it, so I need to switch cables & retest, but I've read a few reports saying it still happens.
@@cogthusiast1150 I really can't wrap my head around it. Just a bad choice by them. There's no advantage to the mini ports. If you switch to HDMI, you won't have that sleep bug anymore, but then you'll be back in the hunt for cables and adapters lol. The panel is beautiful, but Samsung really chose to make their customers work for it on this one.
A question to those who own this monitor for a while now. Any sign of burn in yet? I plan on purchasing one and use it for productivities, mostly with static web browsers, so burn-in is a big big concern to me.
I haven't seen it, but I baby it. I'd stay away for mainly production and browsing. You're going to get burn in from the bars. I've seen a few people complaining.
I am too. It looks amazing. I have heard that the upcoming generation of this qd-oled panel is much more resistant to burn in, so maybe just hold off for another 6-12 months?
It allows you to use the USB ports on the monitor as a USB hub to connect peripherals to. Since the HDMI / Displayport cables don't carry that information, there is a separate port that connects to your PC that allows it to power & communicate with devices you connect to the hub ports. Very convenient & helps reduce cables running from your desk to the pc.
Just got this monitor. Looks and feels amazing once you tweak the settings to your liking. BUT I'm having 1 issue and it's a big issue. I'm using the Display Port. I'm playing a game at 2560x1440, which is 16:9. And it's stretching the picture to 21:9. I DON'T want the picture stretched. I want it original aspect ratio. When I go to the settings, the "Fit to Screen" option is LOCKED to ON. How do I turn this off? Does this still happen with HDMI? I need to try and get this turned OFF. Because it's ruining my gaming experience. Borderline going to return the monitor if I can't get it fixed.
It's a windows setting. Before you play a game in 16x9, go to your display settings in windows and switch the resolution to 2560 by 1440. If not, windows will automatically stretch the display. There are a few games that can auto detect your aspect ration and let you change it in game, but ultra wide support is still hit or miss for a lot. I'm not sure if there is a way to set it to auto detect this in the Samsung settings. If there is, I haven't found it, but switching in display settings before playing only takes a second and will fix your problem. It's not perfect, but it just looks too good for me to go back to anything else. Plan to test the oled g9, but think I'll probably stay with this one.
@@FPP_Tech I just tried that. Set Windows to 2560x1440 and it's still happening. Once I open the game.. it's stretching it to 21:9, distorting the 16:9 game. You're using HDMI? I might have to try that. Don't have a mini HDMI cable though. But if it works. I'd be willing to do that. Even if I have to switch Windows to 2560x1440 before I open the game. BTW.. I also have the AW3423AWF and this isn't an issue on that monitor. I can play the exact same game, in normal 16:9 ratio with NO stretching. So this is an issue specifically with the G8. The colors and brightness are better on the G8 though. I'd pick the G8 all day, if I can fix this aspect ratio issue.
I played with it to try & duplicate what yours is doing and it's not doing it on mine. There has to be a setting somewhere we're missing. Spent a little time yesterday trying to research it for you & couldn't find anything. I'll keep digging and touch base if I come across it.
@@FPP_Tech I appreciate you even trying to help. Have had no luck with any answers. I'm trying to figure out what is different from mine to yours. You're playing a game at 2560x1440 and it's keeping it with the black bars on the sides with no stretch? I ordered a Micro HDMI adapter so I will be trying that, maybe it's the connection. To confirm.. When my 2560x1440 game is stretched.. I go to settings and it's showing 21:9, the option "Fit to Screen" is showing On and won't let me change it. That's what is stretching the picture. If I can toggle that Off.. That will fix the issue. What is yours showing? Is the Auto/Off/On option available?
@@bL3dbL4k yep. Here's a Google photos link of what it looks like with res set to 2560 x 1440 and a game launched. (photos.app.goo.gl/QgwhdjjZiwy7REUY6 I'm at a loss for why yours is stretching. It seems like our settings are identical. Try factory resetting to be sure.
Just got mine today! The biggest reason it had going for it over the others is the fact that you can turn the pixel shifting off, and yes i know its there to reduce burn in but i have 2 years of protection from best buy so id rather not have it "skip" around while im reading. once you notice it its all you will see.
If you can snag it for $900, I would. V2 will probably be slightly better & 240hz, but also, likely back to $1500-1600 range. Plus, if you're pushing max settings, are you really going to be able to take advantage of 240hz in 1440?
Id go for it at that price. I just ordered it also. Otherwise you'll just be chasing the newest thing all the time. I currently have samsungs 1440p 240hz monitor, and it's rare I get that high of refresh rate in most games at max settings, and i have a high end pc. 175hz is perfectly fine. Me personally, I don't notice a difference from 175hz or 240hz.
I have the 32" mini LED G8 and love it. The blacks are surprisingly really good on it, though not quite OLED levels. I would actually have picked this 34" OLED over it but I also need to use my monitor heavily for productivity work as well, so OLED was out of the reckoning straight away. For purely gaming though, like you said - this is the one right now. I agree they nailed the design on the 34" OLED, it looks incredible and superior to all their other odyssey models.
They really did great with this one. My only concern is, am I going to have buyers remorse when the oled g9 drops in a few weeks? Though, I'm sure it's going to be well North of $2k USD. The text fringing really hasn't been that bad, but I would be concerned using it daily for task bar burn in or any other static image, so I definitely think you made the right call.
I use a 3 monitor setup (you can see it in the video), but if I go 49, I can drop to 2 monitors. May sell this one or move it up to the office. Idk, we'll see what it costs.
@@FPP_TechI would say no. I previously had the neo g9, and honestly 49” is just too much. It looks amazing for cool wallpapers, but in productivity it’s just too much look all over the place non stop, and a lot of games and programs don’t support it quite right at all
@@tryeasy1634 that's good feedback. Definitely more concerned about work flow than gaming since that's my main editing rig. The 34" with 2 27" flanking it is working, so I'll probably stick with it.
Couple of questions. Ive never had a great monitor before and so im curious. 1. I havent found any hdmi or DP cables that handle 4k at 175hz is that necessary to run that spec? If not how does a cable not rated for that output the 175hz? 2. Can you send me a link for a great wall mount because i would like it wall mounted. Thanks in advance for helping answer my questions.
Here's a solid wall mount arm that'll work with it, but any Vesa 100 mount would work. amzn.to/3YIJVBD As far as cable, it's only 1440p, so any hdmi 2.0/2.1 or DP 1.4 & higher can push the full spec with hdr. I prefer to use a micro hdmi 2.1 to hdmi cable or hdmi 2.1 with a micro adapter. I'll link both below. Micro Hdmi 2.1 to hdmi cable- amzn.to/45CUclp Hdmi 2.1 to micro adapter (if you already have a cable) amzn.to/3sbPQ66
The sound is just "ok." It'll get the job done for day to day stuff, but I'd definitely recommend using good speakers & not the built in sound. That said, most decent gaming monitors don't have any sound, so I guess that's something at least. Right now, I'd lean g8 if you're getting it for gaming, g9 for productivity. A lot of games don't take advantage of the ultrawide 32:9 really well. However, that will probably improve over time. The g9 offers a ton of space for work & can replace a 2 monitor setup, easily.
Great Review and good luck with the YT channel.I was actually considering to buy this but seeing how Samsung opted out from the traditional ports array and doesn't even provide a normal HDMI port ,let alone a DP then I dont see myself buying although it is an impressive piece of kit.Cheers buddy and best of luck to you!
Thanks for watching! Love getting feedback from other channels on videos. I wish I could say why they went with the mini ports, but it feels like Samsung just decided to choose chaos. By the way, checked out your channel. Great thumbnails. Subbed so I can go back and check out all your content. Good luck with your channel too!
That's fair. I steered away since it can be so varied depending on the Gpu & screen you're using, but I will definitely try and do better in future videos. Thanks for the feedback!
@@FPP_Tech mine arrived today (paid $999 USD) and it's so frustrating because i don't know what it's "suppose to look like". i went to the Logam website and looked at that BlackLevel page, and the "1" square is so faint that i seriously am wondering if i'm imagining that i'm seeing it. is it suppose to be that faint? update: i went and raised the monitors "shadow detail" setting from 0 to 2 and i can see the 1 square distinctly now. i think that's how it's suppose to be.
nice review dude, keep it going, Bought my piece 2 days ago and still thinking if I did right, because G8 Neo is already at my table. The port selection - no, it's not terrible, it's just stupid, and the back cover is being scratched because of air... But the picture... Well, it can be matched only by LG TV panels. MiniLED is just not at that level
Thanks for watching. Yea, after several months, my only question is do I buy another one for the office or wait for the new version just announced at Ces (brighter and they have normal ports). 0 regrets. Mini led just can't hold up for gaming & content creation.
Anything overtly noticeable is probably from the studio lights, camera artifacts, or inadvert fingerprints. In person, the monitor is pristine & has excellent clarity and color. It's biggest knock against it, like many oled's, is the reflections in bright rooms.
Does it have glossy finish or matte? I am interested to buy it. Thanks for the content and I made sure I liked this video + subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for watching. It's a gloss screen. It does OK with reflections. Not great, but OK. I use it in a pretty bright room & it still looks great, but dim the lights, and it blows you away. The newer Gen 2 & 3 panels coming out this year are much better with reflections, but also looking much pricier too. Hope that helps!
@@kylerobinson6102 That's the same pro/con I weighed too. I love the height of a 32" 16x9 but there were no OLED panels in that size. Now that I've used the 34" ultra for a few weeks, I've grown to love it. Would be amazing if someone dropped a 38" ultrawide in 4k. That'd be the best of both worlds.
@@FPP_Tech right now I am using a BX55 OLED TV as a desktop monitor and it doesn’t love PC games in Exclusive full screen. Great display but it plays ‘nicer’ with consoles and windowed full screen games. Corsair should put out a 38 or even a 42 inch 16:9 OLED Panel.
Weird that LG hasn't dropped a 4k 38" 21:9 oled. I guess for now, we have to live with what's out there. The screen on this Samsung definitely helps me feel better about that, though.
Hi, thanks for the review! What are your thoughts about the brightness of this model ? I mostly play on a bright room and that worries me a little because I read is not the brightest monitor.
Oled in general is going to do worse in bright rooms. The newer generations tend to be a bit brighter. That said, I use this as my daily driver in the office and don't have any issues. I think it's just fine, but to really appreciate it at its best, you need a dark space. It's a gloss finish as well, so reflections are also a concern. I
Pixel shift isn't really noticeable, at least in my opinion. The more annoying thing is windows inability to handle HDR. I leave it off unless gaming. It doesn't get any warmer really than any other. It's passively cooled, unlike the Alienware, but that's because the power brick is external.
The aw3423dw has a gsync module in it that needs a fan to cool it off this monitor does not have that module so no need for a fan also the dwf model has the power brick inside the back panel so again dell uses a fan to cool it off
It will black bar the sides to maintain 16x9. It's not my top pick for consoles. At 1440p & ultrawide, it works, but you give up a little bit. I just got the Odyssey OLED g80sd (amzn.to/3XCKmiw) to review. IT'S a 16x9, 4k OLED. Should have my initial review up in a week or so after testing it out.
The micro hdmi choice was bizarre. You can get a good hdmi 2.1 - micro 2.1 adapter. I linked it on the description. If you're mainly gaming on an Xbox, I don't know if this would be my pick. I'd go with a standard 16x9 4k oled TV over ultrawide for 100% console. If you're using it for both console & PC, but more PC, then for sure, it's amazing. Haven't tried the Neo G8, so can't comment. I have gamed on the neo g7 and it was awesome, but Nothing beats Oled, though. At least for me.
@@funcuriosity8739Just checked, I need to update the description. That's definitely not the cable it originally linked to. If you already have an hdmi 2.1 you can just use this adapter from cable matters. Cable Matters 2-Pack 8K / 4K 120Hz Micro HDMI to HDMI Adapter (Micro HDMI Adapter) in Black, 6 Inches with HDR Support for Raspberry Pi 4 (RPI4) and More a.co/d/65b5GzL It's just a pointless pain for them to have gone with micro. Easily could have done a full size slot.
@@funcuriosity8739 Yes, but just to check it & see if it works, not daily drive. I genuinely prefer playing the series x on my LG c2. Just personal preference.
Tough. Performance wise, The Samsung & Alienware DW are identical (the DWF is 10hz slower at 165). Now that the price dropped the price is essentially the same too. I'm partial to the Samsung's design & it would be my choice over the Alienware. Things to consider though, 1) You need to use the HDMI 2.1 as there's a sleep mode bug with the displayport and 2) Alienware does have a 3yr burn in guarantee. That said, I still prefer the Samsung model. I'm using a 7950x / 4090 with it.
Yes, & it's now 3 yrs. It's impossible to find on their site. I did ask a chat support person outright & they stated they will cover any panel issues, including burn in. Digitech & a few other outlets also got a similar response, so I'm confident they will honor it, even though it doesn't implicitly say it. As for Why not coming right out and say it? Your guess is as good as mine. It's Samsung, so they tend to do these things.
@@FPP_Tech Thanks. That’s good to hear because for a while a lot of reviewers said it wasn’t covered. Just ordered mine from Best Buy for $999, it’ll be here tomorrow. Great vid!
@@logan13231 thanks for watching. Jealous of the price you got. I paid the "early adopter tax," unfortunately. You'll love it. I don't think Samsung initially planned to cover burn in, but had to change course because of Alienware. All the original reviews said no, but now they're in the record as saying yes.
@logan13231 I just got mine for $1000, too. It'll be here in 3 more days. Once I heard they scrapped the 1 year warranty for 3 year and covers burn in, I pulled the trigger on it. Luckily I did, because it was back to $1499 the next day lol.
I would say the difference between oled & other display types far outweighs the difference between 240hz & 175hz. You probably won't notice the fps, but you'll instantly notice the panel. That said, everyone is different. You have to try it to know.
@@FPP_Tech and another concern I have is that sleep bug I read about. I heard using HDMI as you explained corrects the issue. My concern is, does that hinder your hz using HDMI over DP? And I was always told to use DP on nvidia cards with freesync monitors, or is that not true?
@@Brandon-0016 as long as your using a quality hdmi cable, you're fine. Vrr works well over hdmi 2.1 & it has more than enough bandwidth to support 1440p, 175hz w/ hdr. I haven't had an issue with it, but your mileage may vary. You could always wait for the new version which dumps the mini DP port for a full size, or go with any of the other monitors using this panel, or even one of the new 4k oled's. They're all really solid. I linked the msi below, just for comparison amzn.to/3Irp9PH
3080ti is still a beast. You can easily push over 100fps at 1440p in most AAA titles (except Cities Skylines, lol). We never benched the 3080ti, so I'll link Tech spots 4070ti review which gives you great head to head benches between your 3080ti & the 40 series. This monitor is 1440p / 175hz but really anything above 120fps is buttery smooth. www.techspot.com/review/2601-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-ti/
@@adambimbo2072 I wouldn't upgrade immediately. Definitely not until we see what the Supers & Super Ti coming in January (alleged) look like. For sure the 4070/4070ti is where you really see something like the g8 shine. Max settings, with RT & HDR pushing over 100fps. Still, in the meantime I think the 3070 will serve you well. It's a great card. What looks "good" is super subjective. I say give it go & see how you feel!
PS5 added 1440p support last year, so it will work. But, it only outputs at 16:9, so you can either have stretch to fit slightly distorting the image, or you can have black bars. It's OLED, so at least the black bars are truly black. Whether it looks good or not is going to be a personal opinion. If my main use was PS5, I'd probably go with a 16:9 4k, but again, it's a personal preference thing.
Even with the black bars down the side its pretty much 27’ display and still better than the 27 Inch options like the LG and Asus oled’s. And if you ever decide to get a pc you can go ultra wide. If you want an oled get this hands down over anything else. Unless you really want 240hz
There is a version 2 coming that will be 240hz like the new Odyssey OLED G9. No official word as of yet, but there have been a few leaks on it here and there. I'd assume it'll be a $200-$300USD more than the v1. While I'd love 240hz, I don't think I'd pay extra for it. Even with a 4090, You'd be hard pressed to hit 240 with settings maxed out in most newer games.
is it really that good?? I thought va panels were inferior compared to ips and oled monitors? This is va Oled? i also heard people had a lot of problems with dead pixels or was that the g9??
Are you sure you're not seeing the neo g8 panel type? Samsung's naming conventions are insane for no reason other than create chaos. As far as dead pixles, I saw a few people in the early production runs complain about it, but I haven't come across any recent ones. The panel I tested had 0 issues, aside from the annoying DP sleep issue in previous comments.
@@MoonPump yea, Samsung has about 40 different monitors and uses 3 names...smh. And they aren't even similar monitors. Totally different panel, resolution, size, & ratio. Thanks Samsung. Makes total sense. Lol.
I used the windows hdr calibration tool. It did really well at tweaking the picture from default. The monitor was set in game mode with HDR10+ set to advanced, game hdr set to off. For windows I bumped sdr brightness to 90 & turned off auto detect sdr / hdr. And important note, I have a mild red/green color blindness, so I also have the saturation turned up slightly more than the average person would, but to me it's perfect. Also, in Nvidia panel (if you have Nvidia gpu) I manually set the refresh, & 10 bit color. You'll see some hdr workarounds online if you search, but a lot of it is for older firmware that's been updated, so take it with a grain of salt & do what looks best to you.
@@FPP_Tech thank you so much for the reply! Loving the monitor so far other than the annoying bit detecting my DP bug. Had to hard reset pc a few times for it to finally work
@@erikjoyner7767 it's a hard to say. HDMI 2.1 has higher bandwidth than DP 1.4 plus it doesn't have the "wake up" bug (dbl check your software, bc the last update was supposed to fix it.) But, The bandwidth shouldn't matter bc DP 1.4 still carries up to 1440p 240hz & 10bit color. I went HDMI & aside from actually finding the micro Hdmi 2.1 to hdmi cable, it's worked great. Most of the things I've read recommend the hdmi, but again, in theory it shouldn't matter.

I tried holding off for a 38" as well. I really like the extra height. I do wish they had the burn in warranty that Alienware does, but have heard they will still cover it if it's within the regular warranty. As far as pixel layout, that's all qd-oled panels. Just how they're designed. I don't blame you for wanting to wait though. Oled monitors are still early in their life cycle. They'll only get cheaper & better as time goes. I will say I am extremely happy with mine. It's been fantastic. Thanks for watching!

Nice! The 7900xtx is going to make it look amazing. You should be able to max everything but ray tracing in almost every game and still hit 175fps to take advantage of the full refresh rate. Enjoy it!
thanks , had a zotac rtx 3080 ti , its performance was good but the fan noise wa driving me up the wall , the sapphire is whisper quite , love it ...........
Does this still have the display port bug or has it been fixed? I just ordered one because my wife doesn't want my pc in the living room which is understandable. Im hoping i like it as much as my lg c1 because its been a pretty amazing tv. Can you really tell the difference between 4k and 1440?
As far as I can tell, the DP sleep bug is still there. It's deeper than just Samsung firmware. It's tied to windows 10/11 sleep issues as well. Honestly, it's easier to find good quality micro HDMI 2.1 cables & adapters anyway. Plus, they support higher data rates than the DP version used. At 34" 1440p it's 110PPI. That's the same pixel density as a 40" 4k monitor. You have to be very close to tell. At 2-3ft, away, it's imperceptible. I've really enjoyed it. Decided to keep it as my main display after review. The colors are insane.
I would like to buy it for productivity due to its image quality and games to a lesser extent like 80% productivity and 20% gaming, will it be worth it? Or is the risk of burning the panel too much?
Really depends on what type of productivity stuff you're doing. For Media, it's amazing. The Vibrant, accurate colors hit the spot. If it's something with static images like a Taskbar, sheets, books, pretty much all "office world" type stuff, I'd probably stay away. Burn in is something to be aware of & you will be overpaying for seldom used features. I'd go with a non-OLED panel for that.
Better is subjective. They each have advantages. The OLED has much better color accuracy, blacks, and HDR at 21:9. The neo had better brightness, ppi & refresh at 16:9. Personally, I lean towards the color & hdr capability. The difference between 175hz & 240hz is negligible, and 110ppi is more than enough at average monitor distance. Plus, I use a 4090 / 7950x & for most modern games, it's still hard to push passed 175fps with everything maxed. I also prefer the ultrawide aspect ratio. In a perfect world, there'd be a 4k 38" ultrawide, that way I could still get the height of a 32" 16:9 too, but we're still waiting on one to drop.
@@FPP_Tech awesome. Would you recommend this monitor over the LG 45? I’ve ordered the G8 today due to the drop in price but am unsure with all of the mentions of quality control on Samsung. Thanks!
@@user-hf1xt9rt7v After using it for over a month now, I'd say yes. It has its quirks, but overall I've had a great experience. The picture quality is amazing. As for the LG 45. Since this is a freesync monitor only will it work just as well with a NVIDIA gpu? Been a bit since I shopped for a monitor and I’m looking to upgrade but it seems gsync isn’t necessary anymore.
Yep. It's freesync premium pro, & gsync "compatible" using activesync. It's no longer necessary to have the gsync module built in for VRR to work with Nvidia GPU's. I use it with a 4090. It's actually better to be gsync compatible vs full Gsync now. 1) it's a hell of a lot cheaper because Nvidia charges for it. 2) it makes user software / firmware updates easier. That's the main reason the Alienware DW doesn't support updates.
Ah ok that makes sense. I appreciate the help. I’m looking to upgrade to a 4080 from my 1080ti. And I’ll probably pick up this monitor too. I currently have the ASUS 34” ultra wide, 1440p with 100hz. I primarily play battlefield games and my current gpu and monitor is lacking a bit these days.
Correct. Keep in mind its only 1.5m, so kind of short. I ended up using a micro to hdmi 2.1 adapter (linked below), with an 8ft hdmi 2.1 cable for my pc. That's the best bet if you need something longer. amzn.to/46qBr5G
I lean Samsung. Picture wise they're virtually identical, but I think the monitor itself looks much nicer & has a more premium Feel / Build Quality. Plus, with Prime Day, it's actually the cheaper option right now at $999.99USD. amzn.to/46HvYrj
I have one, it can be a bit finicky with older systems, and has shown me unsupported resolution errors a few times, it’s not happy with DVI to hdmi, I have my R9 system, but I also have a windows 7 system that I play games with, 7/10 times I get the unsupported screen, apart from that it’s mind blowing
Unfortunately, I don't have a ps5 to test with. I do have an Xbox series x that I used it with and loved it. My main TV is am LG c2 77. Even at 1440p, I honestly think this looks better. Probably a ppi thing.
One thing I noticed is that in HDR mode there is noticable brightness change at random. Especially when browsing or openening email app for example. I use DP cable, not sure is it important to mention. Did anyone else notice this? Or any idea on how to fix the issue?
Good news / bad news. Good news is you don't have an issue or need to change cables. Bad news is there isn't really a "fix" because it isn't really a problem. It comes from brightness regulation across large static images like the white background of a browser or email. Windows struggles bad with this in Hdr mode. The simplest way around it, and it's what most people do, is to just leave HDR off in windows until you need it to run a game or movie. It's quick to turn it on before you launch a game. Until windows gets better at handling hdr brightness regulation, it's going to be there, and unfortunately, the BETTER the display the more noticeable. Funny, A crappy hdr monitor with only edge lit dimming isn't nearly as noticeable.
@@FPP_Tech I see, thank you for your answer. mean I haven´t used HDR mode before, only after a recent update where Peak Brightness is disabled in SDR mode. :/ Screen looks much darker now and somehow there is no way to change that anymore.
No, or at the very least I haven't figured out a way. You can run your pc & ps5 through different inputs & switch between the two, but not at the same time to my knowledge.
OK, so did some digging, but haven't had a chance to test it yet. If you launch your home screen, settings, on the left you'll see multi-view. Go to "make my own" and you should see which devices you have connected that are able to split display input.
Sure. First make sure you're using a DP 1.4 cable (the included one works fine). Next double check the refresh rate in the monitor's settings and make sure it is set to 175hz or VRR turned on. I recommend using Game Mode as well. Finally make sure in windows display settings you have 175hz selected and not 60. If it isn't giving you the option, double check your GPU settings (nvidia control panel for nvidia cards).
Hello, thanks for your video, maybe you can help me out after weeks of search. Is it worth to buy the oled g8 for around 900-1000€ with a laptop, 3060 with solid intel i7 - 16gb ram and prio on xbox one S? actually i got a new odyssey g6 32" VA and its fine at all but not sharp enough with 92ppi. I think i will give it back and i found alot monitors for 500-800€ but all of these looks like.. its not worth. 2k monitor should be enough for me with league of legends and some mmos on laptop and games like diablo or triple A's on xbox one S. Do u think the g8 would work with xbox S solid ? Thanks and have a nice day.
The oled G8 is awesome. I personally love it, but I'm not sure it would be the best fit for you. The PPI would step up to 110, so that'd definitely be an increase, but you will struggle to take advantage of the 175hz @1440 with a Mobile 3060 GPU. Also, while the Xbox & ps5 do look amazing on it, they display natively at 16:9, which means you're essentially just using a standard 27" 16:9. You may see a much better value looking at a solid 1440p 27" widescreen vs this. Your laptop will be able to drive that a little better & there wouldn't be any difference for your xbox. I don't want to talk you out of it, but I'd hate to see you drop 1000 euro and not get your money's worth, if that makes sense.
thought i might use the tv side of this monitor but does not work for me as the sound coming from the monitor is ok and in lip syc , i use kef lsx 2 for my sound if i bluetooth it to the monitor its way out so back to pc monitor side for netflix .
Yea, the TV apps are good in theory, but, the PC has all of them already. Not sure what they were going for, other than watching TV if you're pc is off???
About to fully revamp my set up. Once I figure out what PC to Build I think it’s time to replace my old dell ultrawides with 2 of these. I thought I’d go 2 G9s but this review may have changed my mind. I just gotta figure out the machine to push it.
You'd need a solid build to push 2 of them. I find the 1000r curve on the g9's to be a bit aggressive, but they look great. Not as nice as the oled's. If you're looking at the 49" g9 oled, it's got the lighter curve but that's a lot of pixels to push in a dual setup.
@@FPP_Tech have a computer with a 1080 right now been pushing 2 dell U3415W and and rog swift PG279Q. Haven’t dabbled into anything too intensively recently though. Trying to figure out what to build and what to spend. I usually end up running an Xbox on my left screen and PC on the swift and ultra wide to the right. Prior to coming across this video, I had just returned the Alienware DWF and 7900 xtx Nitro+ for this samsung oled g8 and a 4090. waiting for the two to arrive next week. DWF is beautiful dont get me wrong, but i keep hearing about the OLED G8. I am hoping I made the right call. Question: Is the DP still an issue? Does it matter in terms of FPS using the micro hdmi? when you say a good quality the hdmi brand, can you name some to be on the look out for? Or the one you posted does it fit the bill? Would you be posting a video on your settings for gaming? I can wait to get it.. Oh and yeah.. Sub earned 😉
Thanks for watching. Now a couple months in, I couldn't be happier with the g8. I doubt I do a video on specific settings. I'm mildly red/green colorblind, so mine would look a little off & oversaturated to most people. For HDR, download the Hdr calibration app for windows. It will let you tweak everything to your specific tastes. Then, leave hdr turned OFF in windows & only turn it back on when you're about to play a game or watch something. Windows does really poorly trying to regulate brightness. Yes, the DP bug is an issue still & I recommend using the micro HDMI 2.1. Hdmi 2.1 actually has higher bandwidth than DP 1.4, so no worries about frames. I found a different micro hdmi to hdmi adapter recently that I really like. I'll link it at the bottom. As for brand, any decent hdmi 2.1 will do. Silkland just sent me cables to test & review. They seem solid so far, good build quality. I plan to cut them open next to look at the quality inside compared to other brands. Cableconn is another inexpensive option. If you're in the US, the Best Buy Essentials brand is actually solid for $20. It's a complete waste of money to drop $50+, on a high end cable. Just stay away from anything too cheap from someone you never heard of on Amazon. Enjoy the 4090. Mine barely breaks a sweat no matter what I throw at it. Adapter: amzn.to/3pICYDX Silkland HDMI 2.1: amzn.to/3Qhhitt
The LG is definitely a great screen, & LG is still the king of OLED panels. 1440p at 45" is a little on the low side of PPI for me, personally. But I definitely wouldn't judge anyone for buying it. It's great.
I just got DWF for $750 on ebay. It is at least $150 cheaper than G8 and I hope it is worth it. I am still skeptical about 21:9 ratio because some games dont support it.
Dwf is great. Exact same panel as g8 & that's a great price you got. I was nervous about switching to 21:9 too, but have found most games support it now, & for the few that don't, you can't even see the black bars because with an OLED screen in a dark room, it's like they literally don't exist. It's also amazing to edit video on, if your into that.
So check this out … I have 3 aw3423dw in my home my wife and both my sons has one and has been using the Alienware for a while now here is where it gets wierd I know the Alienware monitor well it’s great yes …. I had a asus monitor I used for myself for a few yrs and I decided to grab a oled. I got the Samsung oled g8 thinking well it has a nice cover on the screen righ no bubble wrap marks ect like on the dell stuff. This g8 oled blows the aw3423dw out of the water with this huge color range and hdr it’s a night and day difference if I could show people a side by side man it’s nuts I have zero idea why it’s so different looking but it’s flat out nuts it looks so good
That's crazy. It's literally the same panel. Awesome how much software can change something. I've used both but not side by side, so I'll take your word for it. Thanks for watching!
I'm on my third G8 after the first 2 were replaced for dead pixels. Samsung's QC has dropped the ball on this monitor. The visuals are breathtaking though.
That's terrible. Did you get it right around launch? I had read there were some QC issues on the early run, but it was taken care of. 3 tries to get a working panel is a pain though. Glad you finally got it taken care of.
I almost passed on this monitor BUT WAIT FOR IT....Amazon to the rescue as they sell the mini HDMI to standard cable.Just picked up on for Black Friday discount. 👍
WHats the worst that could go wrong? Well thats what i thought 1 Hour ago building up my first Oled. Well seems like these Screens are more Sensitive then my unstable Ex XD
I am ok with , Burn In, Fingering, Bad reflections, Low Brightness , Pixels lose brightness over time, shadow crash ,ABL , etch etch ... What i is not ok for me is the Motion Smoothness and Flickering , Rtings said that there is FLickering on all oled , and on some forums they say that Motion is bad unless u Locked the FPS in game . Are these 2 , Motion and Flicker true ??? Because i am ready to buy it .
Pretty much sold on getting this monitor. Im now binging videos reviewing it until i decide to take the plunge and drop 1k on it haha Seen a few people moaning about the display port cable that comes with this, should I buy a third party one? you had any problems? Edit - You literally started talking about it as soon as i posted the comment haha!
Ha. Yea the included DP cable is super short & there's that little wake up bug. I found this micro to hdmi 2.1 adapter (linked below) on Amazon for $12 after I posted the review. It's better than the solution I talk about. I have that paired with a good HDMI 2.1 cable and have had zero issues. I couldn't be happier with this monitor. It looks amazing, screen and design. And now that it's down in price, it's definitely worth it, IMO. Adapter: amzn.to/44jpuNf
The reviews for this monitor on the Samsung website are awful. I can see that it doesn't work well if you use an AMD card, my next build is a 7900XTX. This looks great on paper and for the aesthetic but I might have to pass!
Sorry I'm just getting to your comment. Make sure to check the dates in reviews. The original firmware was TERRIBLE, but it's been updated & much improved. It still has its hiccups here & there, but overall I've been happy. That said, it isn't perfect, by far, & ultimately, you gotta go with whatever will make you the happiest. Too much money to settle for anything less than exactly what you want.
@@FranciscoRodriguez-bq6bs I actually went with this monitor because it was on offer, it's actually improved firmware wise, I've had no problems at all. I'm enjoying it!
This thing is really annoying. You can't even turn it on and off properly with the PC together. You always have to turn it on and off with the remote control. And even then you still get annoying pop-up menus and the message that the "monitor" will go into standby in 50 seconds until you move the mouse. Added to that are useless smart functions and crosshairs that are so huge and fat that you can practically not use them. I'm keeping this wannabe monitor, it's more of a TV, exclusively for Cyberpunk 2077. This game looks absolutely beastly in 21:9 on this in HDR10+ gaming mode. And if I hadn't only paid €670 for this poc, i would have returned it long ago.
I'm definitely interested in it. It's probably going to cost more than my mortgage though, so we'll see.
@@FPP_Tech Oh god, I know what that means. We're getting the new one too, right? 😵
No, it doesn't necessarily mean that, but yea, it probably means that. Sorry I like new toys??
4070 super is good for this type of monitor?
A review done with such passion. love it.
Thanks for watching!
Badass review mate. I can't wait to order mine soon!
Thanks for watching! I'm sure you'll love it when you get it.
What Displayport issues did you have with this monitor?
There's an issue waking from sleep when using the DP cable. Using Hdmi it works fine. Allegedly, There's been a software update to address it it, so I need to switch cables & retest, but I've read a few reports saying it still happens.
@@FPP_Tech yes I've had a similar issue where it won't wake from DP and then will cause the PC to freeze or even restart.
Btw I did find long length Mini DP cables on Amazon. I got a 2m one.
Still can't believe Samsung chose to go with Micro HDMI and Mini DP??
@@FPP_Tech Noted, thank you. I'm such a sucker for oled image quality, but seems like it doesn't suit my case.
I am too. It looks amazing. I have heard that the upcoming generation of this qd-oled panel is much more resistant to burn in, so maybe just hold off for another 6-12 months?
@@FPP_Tech Great idea. Waiting for your video when those come out!
What is the difference between USB upstream/downstream ?
It allows you to use the USB ports on the monitor as a USB hub to connect peripherals to. Since the HDMI / Displayport cables don't carry that information, there is a separate port that connects to your PC that allows it to power & communicate with devices you connect to the hub ports. Very convenient & helps reduce cables running from your desk to the pc.
You using HDR True Black 400 or the HDR 1000 work around through settings?
(photos.app.goo.gl/QgwhdjjZiwy7REUY6
I'm at a loss for why yours is stretching. It seems like our settings are identical. Try factory resetting to be sure.
On sale right now for black friday, but that silver border around the screen is a deal killer.
Just got mine today! The biggest reason it had going for it over the others is the fact that you can turn the pixel shifting off, and yes i know its there to reduce burn in but i have 2 years of protection from best buy so id rather not have it "skip" around while im reading. once you notice it its all you will see.
Were do I get the original samsung hdmi to micro hdmi cable.
From Samsung directly. I've had good luck with the one I linked on the description. 1+yr & still going strong.
should i get this for $900 right now or wait for v2
If you can snag it for $900, I would. V2 will probably be slightly better & 240hz, but also, likely back to $1500-1600 range. Plus, if you're pushing max settings, are you really going to be able to take advantage of 240hz in 1440?
@@FPP_Tech WHEN COMING V2 , SOON ???
@@monacocross4241 it's all rumor right now, nothing official, but I heard September-ish. About 60 days after the g9
@@FPP_Tech Lol yeah the G9 OLED is going to be super tempting. Though at least it's launch price tag will help keep any temptations and regrets away 😅
Here's a solid wall mount arm that'll work with it, but any Vesa 100 mount would work. amzn.to/3YIJVBD
As far as cable, it's only 1440p, so any hdmi 2.0/2.1 or DP 1.4 & higher can push the full spec with hdr. I prefer to use a micro hdmi 2.1 to hdmi cable or hdmi 2.1 with a micro adapter. I'll link both below.
Micro Hdmi 2.1 to hdmi cable- amzn.to/45CUclp
Hdmi 2.1 to micro adapter (if you already have a cable) amzn.to/3sbPQ66
thanks just bought 1 today.. subbed
Nice! You're going to love it. Thanks for the sub & watching!
How about the sound with this monitor? And between this an g9 which is better? Thanks
What settings are you using for day to day and gaming?

how do we connect this monitor to pc speakers?
Good luck with your channel too!
wish you said what settings should be used for a Gaming PC setup on the monitor and on the GPU settings.
That's fair. I steered away since it can be so varied depending on the Gpu & screen you're using, but I will definitely try and do better in future videos. Thanks for the feedback!
@@FPP_Tech mine arrived today (paid $999 USD) and it's so frustrating because i don't know what it's "suppose to look like". i went to the Logam website and looked at that BlackLevel page, and the "1" square is so faint that i seriously am wondering if i'm imagining that i'm seeing it. is it suppose to be that faint?

nice review dude, keep it going, Bought my piece 2 days ago and still thinking if I did right, because G8 Neo is already at my table. The port selection - no, it's not terrible, it's just stupid, and the back cover is being scratched because of air... But the picture... Well, it can be matched only by LG TV panels. Is this gsync compatible as well
When you took the film, was there protection on the monitor, the traces when you wipe it or touch it are very noticeable?
Fantastic video! Thank you for posting this!
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
@@FPP_Tech I’m not sure if I should get this or a traditional 16:9 OLED. Would like to see more 32 inch OLEDs hit the market.
Hello. What about the automatic pixel shift? Is it annoying? I’ve also heard this monitor is very hot..
Pixel shift isn't really noticeable, at least in my opinion. The more annoying thing is windows inability to handle HDR. I leave it off unless gaming.
It doesn't get any warmer really than any other. It's passively cooled, unlike the Alienware, but that's because the power brick is external.
The aw3423dw has a gsync module in it that needs a fan to cool it off this monitor does not have that module so no need for a fan also the dwf model has the power brick inside the back panel so again dell uses a fan to cool it off
Is this monitor good for ps5?Will the picture be stretched?or loose res?
It will black bar the sides to maintain 16x9. It's not my top pick for consoles. At 1440p & ultrawide, it works, but you give up a little bit. I just got the Odyssey OLED g80sd (amzn.to/3XCKmiw) to review. IT'S a 16x9, 4k OLED. Should have my initial review up in a week or so after testing it out.
I have Xbox serie x that mean HDMI , why the G8 use micro hdmi while the neo G8 use HDMI , did you try also the neo G8 ?
The micro hdmi choice was bizarre. You can get a good hdmi 2.1 - micro 2.1 adapter. I linked it on the description. If you're mainly gaming on an Xbox, I don't know if this would be my pick. I'd go with a standard 16x9 4k oled TV over ultrawide for 100% console. If you're using it for both console & PC, but more PC, then for sure, it's amazing.
Haven't tried the Neo G8, so can't comment. I have gamed on the neo g7 and it was awesome, but Nothing beats Oled, though. At least for me.
@@FPP_Tech thanks but the review on the Amazon store are not so good for that cable
@@funcuriosity8739Just checked, I need to update the description. That's definitely not the cable it originally linked to. @@funcuriosity8739 Yes, but just to check it & see if it works, not daily drive. I genuinely prefer playing the series x on my LG c2. Just personal preference.
Which one to buy. This or the alienware oled. For nvidia 4090?
@@FPP_Tech thank you for answering my question. I'm gonna go with your recommendation.
Awesome. It should be a great fit. Always happy to answer any questions!

Does their warranty cover burn-in in the U.S.?
I’m currently using the odyssey g7 at 240hz. I’m just hesitant dropping down to 175hz. Is the trade for OLED worth it?
I linked the msi below, just for comparison

Hello sir. I’m between this monitor and asus rog pg32qr which is a 144hz 4k resolution. What do you think? The rog is cheaper than the samsung.

Hello ! Do you think that my 3080Ti would be enough for this monitor? or I need up from 4000 series ?
3080ti is still a beast. You can easily push over 100fps at 1440p in most AAA titles (except Cities Skylines, lol). We never benched the 3080ti, so I'll link Tech spots 4070ti review which gives you great head to head benches between your 3080ti & the 40 series. This monitor is 1440p / 175hz but really anything above 120fps is buttery smooth.

How do you think it will look on my 3070 16gb?
@@adambimbo2072 3070 is a great 1440p card. I think you'd be more than satisfied. 1440 Oled or mini led is probably your sweetspot.
@@FPP_Tech I just purchased this monitor do you think it makes sense or should I upgrade my card soon?
@@adambimbo2072 I wouldn't upgrade immediately. Definitely not until we see what the Supers & Super Ti coming in January (alleged) look like. For sure the 4070/4070ti is where you really see something like the g8 shine. Max settings, with RT & HDR pushing over 100fps. Still, in the meantime I think the 3070 will serve you well. It's a great card. What looks "good" is super subjective. I say give it go & see how you feel!
Do you know how it looks with a ps5? I’ve heard mixed things about ultra wide and ps5
Unless you really want 240hz
ist there a 240hz one coming?
@@FPP_Tech i was talking about the neo g8 correct. So many small variations with similar names, how confusing lol
@@MoonPump yea, Samsung has about 40 different monitors and uses 3 names...smh. And they aren't even similar monitors. Totally different panel, resolution, size, & ratio. Thanks Samsung. Makes total sense. Lol.
What HDR settings are you using?
Had to hard reset pc a few times for it to finally work
So, weird quirk, but it won't do it with hdmi. If you can manage to find the cables. Thanks for watching!
@@FPP_Tech so is hdmi the preferred connection you think?
@@erikjoyner7767 it's a hard to say. HDMI 2.1 has higher bandwidth than DP 1.4 plus it doesn't have the "wake up" bug (dbl check your software, bc the last update was supposed to fix it.)
But, The bandwidth shouldn't matter bc DP 1.4 still carries up to 1440p 240hz & 10bit color.
I went HDMI & aside from actually finding the micro Hdmi 2.1 to hdmi cable, it's worked great. Most of the things I've read recommend the hdmi, but again, in theory it shouldn't matter.
Do i need to use displayport or hdmi on my 4090?
I'd use hdmi if you can. It won't matter much for picture quality, but it avoids the little displayport wake up issue the monitor sometimes has.
@FPP_Tech Yeah I haven't had that issue but my old asus 4k monitor had it really bad I couldn't even log into bios...

@@FPP_Tech ok thanks for the reply and nice review. I'm excited for it to come and try it out.
Prob a dumb question but when you mount it to a arm, I assume the rgb light ring in the back stays on right? It’s not part of the stand?
That's correct. There's a bracket that attaches to the center of the ring from Vesa mounts. The light ring goes around it.
why is this better for gaming that neo g8 32 240hz 4k ? im using a 4090 rog oc
So how do you get 3440x1440 at 175hz if hdmi 2.1 only goes to 120hz?
Hdmi 2.1 can handle 4k at 120hz. It can support 1440p (this monitor) up to 240hz, as well as dynamic hdr & VRR.
@@FPP_Tech awesome. Would you recommend this monitor over the LG 45? I’ve ordered the G8 today due to the drop in price but am unsure with all of the mentions of quality control on Samsung. Thanks!

No. It's 1440p. At 110ppi, it has about the same pixel density as a 42" 4k screen.

With the cable that you put in the amazon link I can connect my xbox series x and my ps5?
Correct. Keep in mind its only 1.5m, so kind of short. I ended up using a micro to hdmi 2.1 adapter (linked below), with an 8ft hdmi 2.1 cable for my pc. That's the best bet if you need something longer.

what does this monitor look like on ps5??

Can anyone help me please, my monitor doesn’t connect to my Xbox series x
Can you drop some details like cable & troubleshooting steps you've tried? Maybe we can figure it out for you. I did test it with my series x, so it can be done.
Paid $667 for this brand new yesterday. HUGE W!
Super jealous. Nice find
$667 after tax? Lowest im seeing is $700 on the samsung website. Did you also buy protection plan for it?
Adapter: amzn.to/3pICYDX
Silkland HDMI 2.1: amzn.to/3Qhhitt
How’d it go? You happy with it over the dwf?
@@rudyg6922 for sure. Thinking of getting 2 more for a triple setup
LG 45" OLED 240Hz this best today
The LG is definitely a great screen, & LG is still the king of OLED panels. 1440p at 45" is a little on the low side of PPI for me, personally. But I definitely wouldn't judge anyone for buying it. It's great.
This came off heavily as a paid sponsor for Samsung.
J. D. Vance side hustle!
@@FPP_Tech no I only got it a month ago. Surprisingly problematic.
I almost passed on this monitor BUT WAIT FOR IT....Amazon to the rescue as they sell the mini HDMI to standard cable.Just picked up on for Black Friday discount. 👍
Nice!
WHats the worst that could go wrong? Well thats what i thought 1 Hour ago building up my first Oled. Well seems like these Screens are more Sensitive then my unstable Ex XD
OK, I don't want to laugh bc sounds like there's some realness behind that, but.... That made me chuckle. We've all been there.
Sadly the biggest let down that it's not 4K.
G9 Oled says what??
Finally got a chance to play on one. Such a great display.
Pretty much sold on getting this monitor. Im now binging videos reviewing it until i decide to take the plunge and drop 1k on it haha
Seen a few people moaning about the display port cable that comes with this, should I buy a third party one? you had any problems?
Edit - You literally started talking about it as soon as i posted the comment haha!
Ha. Yea the included DP cable is super short & there's that little wake up bug. I found this micro to hdmi 2.1 adapter (linked below) on Amazon for $12 after I posted the review. It's better than the solution I talk about. I have that paired with a good HDMI 2.1 cable and have had zero issues.
I couldn't be happier with this monitor. It looks amazing, screen and design. And now that it's down in price, it's definitely worth it, IMO.
Adapter: amzn.to/44jpuNf
If only there was no burn in risk.
but pixel density is crab.. a monitor of this size needs way higher res than 4k in my op.
It's 110PPI. That's the same as a 27" 1440p & more than a 43" 4k.
@@FPP_Tech of course but my 24" WQHD has higher dpi..
cool
Hi matte, my next gpu will be the rx 7900 xtx too, what monitor you finally choose ?
@@FranciscoRodriguez-bq6bs I actually went with this monitor because it was on offer, it's actually improved firmware wise, I've had no problems at all. I'm enjoying it!
@@FranciscoRodriguez-bq6bs I got it for £800 which was a decent price, it's nice but it is a lot of investment. Don't pay retail for it
@@StephenJordanJavaKrypt thanks for the answer ! Wich source do yo use for play games in 2k at 175 hz ? Mini display port or hdmi ?
The only reason i didnt buy this is because the mini ports also it not waking up from sleep. so i bought the Alienware!
That's fair. The mini ports were a terrible decision & finding good cables is a nightmare.
alienware better
Warranty and firmware wise absolutely. But despite being the same panel, the Samsung looks more appealing.
