It is intended to be a spoof of Hollywood blockbuster comic book hero movies. There was no attempt to try to compete in anyway shape or manner with those mega-budget films. Please note that the entire budge for the film was $14,000 and not 140k. Some moron keeps changing the budget on the IMDB. I made the film and I paid for it out of my own pocket, I don't even have close to 140k to invest in a film." (Lewis Schoenbrun) So there you go, it was meant as a spoof...yikes.
But there are spoofs/parodies that have more effort put into them. They may not be funny/unintentionally, like The Amazing Bulk, but they don't look like shit or confuse the audience as to what it's trying to achieve. If a parody doesn't come across as a parody, then that's a big fail right there.

The bizarreness they talk about at the end...was REALLY bizarre to a five-year-old (the guy cutting off his own hand was terrifying). For the next thirty years (!!!) I wondered what movie it was, but never knew.... UNTIL TODAY!!! RedLetterMedia, solving one lifelong childhood mystery at a time!
This taught me that somewhere in the world, there is someone who took the time and effort to create a 3D animated clip art of a flying pug with a cape.

One of those things were these weird cgi transitions that I haven’t seen anywhere else than in the amazing bulk
We shot on mini dv which looked a lot better but yeah, that typical 480p with shit or no color grading and lack of studio lighting really sets it off =P

I was genuinely surprised you guys had never seen Gymkata. It was an early cable TV staple with a broadcast regularity on par with The Beastmaster. They were both ALWAYS on. Additionally, those two movies have a similar jesus-this-ridiculous-but-jesus-this-is-entertaining quotient. Totally watchable, totally enjoyable guilty pleasures.

It's a good thing that Jay and Mike learned from the mistakes of The Amazing Bulk trying to be funny bad, and made the tonally serious Space Cop
and with Space Cop, there was only 1 or 2 times that the movie was boring
