- This guitar went from sounding good to sounding unbelievable. I love it. Mr. Atlantis not only has good taste but is one lucky sunuvagun.
Rhythm: 2:30
Clean: 4:32
Lead 6:01 (And the intro too you lazy gubba)

+5000 for the Vai content
+Ben Weblin If your comment gets like 10 likes I'll do a full cover. Deal?
+Paul Ozz You gotta do it now
+Raptor4878 Oh shit!
That may be my favorite tone that I've ever heard from your reviews (for a 6 string, at least), Mr Ozz. That sounded MASSIVE. Pickups, the patch, EVERYTHING was mammoth-sized and ripping.
Thanks for the vid, I have a pair in my LTD EC-1000. Pretty neat pickups, really do the contemporary prog/metal stuff very well.
one of your coolest reviews. sick playing
So glad you liked it man! Cheers & thank you!
Holy shit when you started playing the clean riffs I thought it was the neck pickup when it was the bridge, then I shat myself when I heard the neck pickup. Shutup and take my money.
Bad horsie🤘
I just bought Jake Bowen’s signature guitar with an Evertune bridge and it’s my absolute favorite. Good vid.
You nailed that Bad Horsie! You’re making me want to get these pickups for my J Custom.
Came across your review and found it really insightful, I am contemplating using a X2N 7 in the bridge and a TITAN 7 in the neck. Has anyone experimented with this DiMarzio configuration? Is the Titian in the neck bright enough given the depth of the X2N in the bridge? As the Titan neck pickup may be too warm, any suggestions on a neck pickup that is clean, clear, well defined to combine with the X2N in the bridge as that pickup surpasses my original thoughts of a RailHammer Chisel especially since those are available for 6 strings, and provides more richness and versatility.
I like those sort of Egyptian sounding chord progressions you were playing. It made me think I was looking into a mummies tomb.
Sounds brutal! :) I'm thinking of getting these pickups for my J-Custom RG-PAINT4
Congrats on getting featured on DiMarzio's facebook page!
What is comparable to this kind of pickups? Maybe just a tiny bit less note definition so I can have a bit more chug but with some nice cleans?
Where did you find those? I found the neck pickups in that style but only found the gold ones :|
what about the neck pickup there skipjack ??
Love the tone. Can you share your preset for the Intro?
Good sir, i too have an ibanez j custom guitar and i want to put these pickups in. Where did you get the pickups with the metal covers? metal covers are badass.
You get them ordering the pickups from the DiMarzio website
Sounds good! I should get some for my RGA121
What's the finish of the covers?
Cool review! Helped me a bit with getting set of these for my RGA121. ]:->
"nearly illegal in some countries" aren't the Ibanez j customs practically impossible to get in the US already?
Can i play with these pickups shred?are these a good choice for metal prog ?are the pickups powerfull enought like d activator?
Julian Del Rio I have a titan in my Ibanez rgd 7421 bridge and I’m no way a pro or a expert but for the low tuned extended stuff it is very clear gainy and even sounding! For six string just listen to Paul but also in my experience my friend put these in a 6 string ibby and he got the exact same super biting gripping tone in drop C, for shred I think it would depend on your amp settings and pedals. This set will definitely handle it! And for prog of course man ;) cheeeerrs
What did you think of the Edge Pro trem?
I have a RG470 that I bought brand new in 1993. I really want to change out the two humbuckers. I'm not sure about the center single coil which is a S7.
I love hearing about killer RG's... I think if you change them out, you should go for something similar and passive? :-)
does the edge pro tremolo on this go slightly out of tune when doing pull ups;; because mine does and im pissed off
Filareti Piperopoulou you just have to have it set up correctly. It's the same case with the Floyd Rose too.
Nice playing!
Thanks for making this review. I am thinking about getting a schecter c1 platinum which is mahogany body with a maple neck. Do you think these pickups would sound good with that model of guitar? PS I'm relatively green with the guitar so experimenting with pickups is pretty foreign to me. Thanks!
+ShadeofSound TBH I think it would sound loud and quite harsh and in your face. Definitely a metal-as-fuck tone! I'm not against it. Just be weary that you'll probably be playing heavier music only with such a setup.
What kind of wood is the body of the guitar? Do you think these pickups would go well in an ash body? From what I've read Ash is very bright and has DEEEP lows... do you think the mid range is enough to balance it out?
Devon Horchen I too would like to know this. I am considering a set for my Ibanez rgr652ahbf.
Some of those riffs really made me think of Aeternam. Great band if you're into Eastern influenced Death Metal.
great playing and tone! could you please explain what "triumph lead" is, and where i can find it??
It's my own custom lead tone man! Can't find it anywhere ;-)
Would you suggest these for a heavy rock (almost metal) BLUES sound? And how hot are these? I prefer medium hot pups. Thanks
David Fuller thanks man
+Nonsense Poopypants Definitely not. There are much better pickups for that. These are REALLY powerful. You should get something more in the Tone Zone/ Norton category. These have a very unique sound, versatile is not what I would call them, despite mr david's testament.
Djenty. I like it.
Would you recommend the pickup to someone who sometimes ventures into metal on stage but mostly stays in very hard rock?
@Hasan Altintas bullshit. They sound good in any tuning.
How did you get that tone, its amazing
Hey Paul, I just got an ibanez Prestige and I'm not loving the Tone Zone. I'm looking for the most in your face aggressive metal tone money can buy. I'm looking at these titans, SD Nazgul, or EMG 81/85. What would you suggest or is there something else I should consider?
Just got an ibanez too and am not digging the tone zone. Way too bassy in well basswood. Did you ever replace them?
Suhr SSH+ / SSV is the best I've found for Ibanez RGs.
Great video review! Did you have to route to compensate for the covers on the pickups?
+chkwalla I don't think the original owner had to route anything!
Someone said the TITAN bridge is a lot like the PAF pro where it has that kind of articulation and clarity but is a more powerful and has more low end>
Nappa: Vegeta. What does the scouter say about his power level?
Vegeta: 3:51
+9unslin9er 10/10 laughed out loud :D
That's one sick horsie
Thumbs up for Bad Horsie bro!
What a nice tone! You're one hell of a beast player! I want to learn the licks! What kind of scale or mode is that?
I dip between Harmonic Minor as well as good ol' Major Scale noobness :-)
apologies if already asked but does anyone know the axe fx patch used here?
What's the single coil in the middle?
I think it was just the stock pickup from Ibby!
Did you have to route the guitar for the pickups to fit?
Nope!
dope
Thanks!
ED nortons brother plays guitar?
+Seek truth Hey, I'll take it.
Ugh
Hey Paul, do you remember if these were the nickel or satin nickel covered pickups?
I believe satin nickel covered pickups!
Paul, did you need to route the pickup spots to fit or did they just sit right in?
Just got a set of black cover and gold poll Titan pickups and plan to put them into an rg1570 j.craft.
I think my friend who owned this guitar didn't have to route them but I think the schematic for the pickups should be available?
+Paul Ozz I'm going to use the Tobin abasi wiring diagram from dimarzio to set this up.
Thanks for the help man, and not being too good for your fans. It means a lot.
At first I was like.. u fackin wot m8 then I re-read.. dude of course. I try to reply to every question.
That should work but I mean like the literal size of the pickup might be something you can find online and then you can measure your pickup route holes to see if it works in terms of dimensions ? I really don't remember if he had to cut into the guitar or not it was so long ago :(
haha, nah man. No harm intended. Just some other youtube celebs that think they're hot shit because they have 100+ views that like to get pissy with their fans or just ignore the questions.
Peace m8
Appreciate the information man. It's looking like the titans are going to fit just about perfectly.
I dig the tone.I may have to try those bad boys out.
They are pretty vociferous!
Just curious how does it compare to the Crunch Lab?
***** I see. I have a CL/LF set in all three of my guitars. While it sounds amazing in my JP6 in E, it doesn't thrive as well in my RGA Prestige in Drop C (and lower) because I definitely use big chords a lot in the lower tunings, even on my 7 string Jackson. Then again, body wood does play a factor in this as well. You're on the money in terms of the Crunch Lab being aggressive. I'm definitely considering getting myself a set.
***** I'll have to respectfully decline that. All I need in my life is one JP haha. I don't have the money for another.
I'm good with CL/LF sets haha
when is the Titan X coming out?
+givemeajackson That actually made me laugh out loud. Nice one, sir. :D
whats the intro song? ive heard that before
Steve Vai - Bad Horsie
regards Mate
Adrian S thanks my friend
at first I thought you had the new J. Custom with the BKP aftermaths. haha
Thanks for the demo, Never heard an IB have so much depth.Got to Grab that Pickup for a Floyd Guitar!
I need advise/help, I just switch from my Dimarzio DP100 Super Distortion to this Titan neck pickup for my 6 strings Schecter Elite 006 and I have so much bass that it feels like it's not normal... As per the specs on Dimarzio web site, the Titan should have less bass than the Super Distortion and it's really not my case.
Did anyone playing with this pup find that there's too much bass? If not I will bring it back to my local music store to get it checked.
Thanks!
+Matt Sparks You're sure your tone pot is and everything is wired properly?
+Paul Ozz Hey Paul, yes all is connected ok. I brought my guitar to a local music store, the tech rewired everything, it now sounds better but still more bass than the SuperDistortion pup. I dont know what else to do! Would using lower gauge string help with the bass, from 56 to 54 or 52?
Yep, and if you haven't changed your strings in a while that might change it up too? I dunno though, lots of bass is a weird problem to have.
+Paul Ozz Well the 56 gauge I currently use are a month old. I'll try switching to 54 and test it out. I've also noticed a resistor of the tone pot when the tech guy showed me the work he did welding the wires. Would this affect the overall guitar tone?
GreatWhite Spark Sorry, seems I am a year late, but if you still have those pups and haven't tried to do so yet, you might try lowering the pickup.
Awesome tone! Do you have any patch to share?
Sorry man not anymore!!! Super old video!
Awesome, what guitar is that ? Looks awesome, is that a lo pro edge tremolo ?
It's an Ibanez JCustom! I believe it's a 2006 :D
That tone is amazing but so are all of yours, i want these pickups but how much of the tone is coming from that bad ass patch on the Axe FX?
There is plenty of colour coming from the patch but the feeling of the pickups are what they are: a dynamic powerhouse. There is plenty coming from them as well. I always try everything through my ENGL Powerball first to get a really good feeling from the piece of gear, and I can tell you that the Titans are fantastic pickups. Super tight, chunky, and mean, just utterly lovely.
well thats good to hear! i dont have much experience with Dimarzio pickups, ive been looking at the BKP Juggs, are are the Titans similar?
Paul Ozz would you suggest these for a heavy rock (almost metal) BLUES sound? How hot are they? (I prefer medium hot pups)
They are hotter than that. I wouldn't use them for such a thing.
Any suggestions then?
You're such a goofball. Love this vid man, all the Vai was great too, I can't wait to switch out my Ibanez' trem (it's an old model with a really shitty Ibanez trem that I am glad they phased out for the Edge series) for something that'll allow me to do stuff like that.
:D If you can't have fun doing a thing then wtfbbq. That's awesome dude! I never knew a lot about ibby trems until friends were like O M G dat premium is shit and I wouldn't understand until I played... this guitar.
what wood is that guitar? ash? mahogany?
+Luis Javier Garcia Mahogany with a flame maple top. Its an Ibanez J Custom.
what song is that at 2:30 ?
dokterkarel just a couple of riffs from my song called 'Land of Secrets' :)
Paul Ozz thank you, my friend
Are these active pickups??
Nope!
Can u please tell me what scale it is you play on 2:44 it sounds so magical to me, i wanna learn it
Pr0v0kat0r777 Phrygian dominant
Thank you for responce, i'll check it out! ♥
Parallel universe Edward Norton? Hiding an English accent, maybe? Or, working on one. Either way, keep it up!!
+Jon Nichols I'm English but it's been many years since I've lived there :)
that clean part is damn.. is this improv or from a song ?
+pokatino da cruz Improv :)
nice man great job !!
thanks mate :)
nice mate subscribed!! ;)
Dude you're voice can go so deep so quick, that's a death metal Titan voice if I ever heard any! (Waiting for the comments to pour in "informing" me its not his real voice)
+Michael long whoa eloquent and vile all at the same time
+Paul Ozz I be come from the south, we play geetar on uhcoostic no electro powers, what is a pickup? Who is jake Bowen?
I put these pickups in one of my Jackson guitars. At first I liked them but the more I played them the more I grew to hate them. I hates them so bad that I quit playing that guitar completely for a few months until I got them out. My least favorite pickup I have ever used.
Hey, man care to elaborate a bit more? Like was there a certain overpowering frequency that made it unpleasant to listen to? Did it just feel and sound stale without much dynamics? Ice picky or muddy?
Dat horsie...
bad horsie in the face nice
u WOT M8
do more covers bro!
Nice, but a bit thin for my personal tastes. Great playing though~
aaaaaaaaannndddd BOOOOOOM SUSCRIBED! :D
Bad horsie 😏😂😍🙌
the bridge pickup didnt do what i wanted ...... but that is my favourite neck pickup ive ever owned ...... (x2n is best bridge pickup)
+pegasynth elstrohea I found myself in the same boat as you. Im running a Titan neck with a BKP Emerald bridge.
+JgHaverty I want to try the bare knuckle warpigs some time..... I heard good things bout them but they are a lot more difficult to get in Canada and I don't have $500ish to dish out for them
pegasynth elstrohea eww I would never pay that much for pickups haha. I got my bkp emerald used for 80$. Food for thought.
If you like the x2n, just use the x2n :)
I like the X2N
If I ever get 500 lying around I'll probably order some ....... Also provided I have a decent guitar too
Okay mr vai
crossroads!
Great playing, clean sounds like a dead horse, but with a guitar that lists for $2999 it's difficult to not sound "heavy"
No good conclusion can come from anything played though a digital modeling anything. Dont care if its 3k or 5k dollars or whatever.... this pickup is way more articulate in person, through a real tube amp.
Can't agree with you, oh well.
@@PaulOuzounov just ain't the same bud.... sorry.
Might as well plug it straight into the computer and press auto play
I would find these kinds of comments somehow relevant if i could meet a single person that could make out the difference BEFORE someone tells him the setup.....all i see is everyone getting slapped around in blind tests so....
cross roads
Bad horsy without the wah??? Hahaha cool. I guess the horse was rebridaled
that guitar is orange peeling like mad dude. color sand it for the love of god.
too overwhelming for vai song..but for metal, its good
lel thats like a 3000 grand guitar
The next review is gonna be of a guitar that's under 2k I believe so stay tuned pho dat.
so much noise
