The story was good but the multiple boss after the final bosses dragged on a lot but the characters were good and the side storylines between chapters fleshed them out. I have been still keeping my eye on Sakura Wars but still didn't know if I would fully like it or how low the sale price would go. My main reason for that game is because a 3DS game called Project X Zone had a wide crossover of different games mashed into one and Ichiro and Sakura were in the game, along with Gemini and that kinda holy girl. I am all about seeing games from crossovers to maybe hype me up to check out the game they came from.

Tokyo Xanadu is more or less an ARPG take on the Trails of Cold Steel series, minus the broad canvas and tied up in one game. Almost everything outside of the actual combat is structured similarly. So if you've played and liked ToCS and don't mind an action take on your RPG combat, it should definitely appeal to you. (Similarly, if you like TXex+ and want a more traditional turn-based tactical take on the gameplay, Trails of Cold Steel and its sequels are very good.)

Sakura Wars 5: So Long my Love was released in 2010 by NISA on dead platform (last game released on PS2), and Wii port was just pointless, because who play those kind of games on Wii ??? @@TheGamingShelf Na bad comparison, Ys meets Trails is more accurate imo with how the combat and story is setup. Not really surprising as Falcom made/makes all 3 games/series (TX, Ys, and Trails).
Only thing Persona like with TX is the fact it uses a bonding system (though mostly not romantic focused unlike Persona for the girls and instead focuses far more on creating character background than progressing romance imo) which isn't really a feature remotely exclusive to Persona, hell Sakura Wars is just as old as the Persona series as a whole (Sakura Wars released 6 days after the first Persona) and has used Romance/bonding systems since the start if i'm right (not sure if Persona 1 did or didn't tbh) and even Harvest Moon which predates both game by a few months.

But over all the story was good enough to get me through it.
(edit: Currently busy with a few games, SMT5, Persona 5 Royal, Blue Reflection Second Light and Trails of Cold Steel 2... probably shouldn't be playing this amount of JRPG's at once, but i'll manage. Unfortunately I already have the entire list. :( Sakura Wars was fun but I wish they had stuck to the turn-based combat of the earlier games, and I hate how they got rid of almost all of the playable characters from the old games. I know based on how spirit energy works in the setting its strongly implied that none of the characters from the older games would have still been fit for combat by the time the new game takes place but they could have included more of them in support or cameo roles.

Tokyo Xanadu was a fantastic game, maybe not Persona caliber, but pretty close! Cosmic Star Heroine is also a solid jrpg and has a lot to recommend it. I'm currently playing Sakura Wars and mostly enjoying it, although some of the story beats are pretty cliche and the main character you play as is kind of a doofus. Spoilers below.
#5 I love "Sakura Wars". But I only grabbed it recently.
#4 "Crystar" is on my radar, but it has a weird premise.
    Re: sponcer.
Japan has the best candy, but also some of the worst. But that's because they love trying new things.
#3 "Peir Solar" is a fun game. Prefer the old school graphics.
#2 "Cosmic Star Heroine" was really rough when it first came out PC. I got to the fourth boss and the game didn't render the arms properly, so you couldn't defeat it. I haven't gone back to it since, but I did buy it again on the Switch.
#1 "spoiler name game" I have honestly never heard much about this game. But I am not a huge Persona fan. (shock!) Even though I own almost every single one, since P3 on Ps2. But it wasn't until last year that I finally got into Rune Factory 4, which has a simular very weak character, that can't stay in the dungeons too long, at the start of the game. I like the SMT 4 & 5 games better. (And working through the extreamly light hearted by comparison TMS#FE on Switch right now.)

    • @ifrit1937

Gonna be honest comparing Tokyo Xanadu to Persona is a bit wrong imo...i'd say it's more a blend of Falcom's Ys and Trails games (in particular Cold Steel games with its structure) than Persona. Only thing remotely Persona about Tokyo Xanadu is the fact it uses a bonding system but many other games like Rune Factory or Sakura Wars and its setting is modern day Tokyo but that's about it as far as Persona similarities go imo. Combat is nowhere near Persona of course as it's action but even not anywhere near Persona 5 Strikers either which used Musou style...it more or less uses the Ys Origins or Oath in Felghana inspired combat imo (Tokyo Xanadu was made by Falcom as well which is why calling it a blend of Ys and Trails fits well as it takes the best aspects of Ys's action combat with the best aspects of Trails storytelling/sub quest structure and world lore and even giving all npcs their own storyline and combine the two. I'll be blunt...if they gave the game to a more competent localizer Tokyo Xanadu would be my favorite Falcom game as the story and combat is great but Aksys butchered the localization on Vita (barely better than say Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment initial Vita release) with the PS4 Tokyo Xanadu EX+ improving it a bit but still being fairly meh in quality (i'd say about Ys 8 pre-fix patch for the localization or a bit worse...maybe a bit better than Hearts R's localization on Vita).
Of all the Falcom games out TX is one I really want to see get a sequel and it might as the head of Falcom, Kondo, said he'd consider it in the future. The funny thing with the game though is that it was that good and most of the staff were new hires/a new team put together from new hires/other teams for the game and it was easily my favorite game in the past 5 or so years until Tales of Arise released this year.
