Bow Vegeta This is just an assumption but I'm guessing if you were born an "airbender" you were taken in by the monks to learn how to bend and become more monky
+Bow Vegeta I think I read somewhere that airbenders are raised by monks and not their parents so they are more free from earthly attachments. His parents didn't give him away, that's just how the culture is. When Aang was talking to Yangchen in the finale, he talked about how the monks told him that detaching himself from the world would free his spirit. Growing up separate from their parents would make it easier for an airbender to detach themselves from the world, since they wouldn't have to overcome parental attachment.
The picture of aang and Katara all grown up with their own family was one of the biggest tear jerkers of the series for me, especially with aang already being long dead at this point
I love how similar Bumi(Aang’s son) as a child looks to Bumi(Aang’s friend) as a child. Also Baby Tenzin looks completely identical to Baby Aang. I also love how little Kya looks, and of course as identical as little Katara. Now to end it, Katara is a hottie when middle aged!
This is the perfect dose of Chris... I appreciate him being there in the guiding role: asking interesting questions, providing some background or context where needed. Really add value without spoiling, so well done
Heh, I just realized that it’s sorta tradition for an Avatar to come into conflict with the leaders of the nation they come from: -Kyoshi forced the Earth King to give in to some of the peasants’ demands. -Roku almost killed the Firelord for occupying Earth Kingdom territory. -Aang defied the wishes of the Air elders and flew away from the temple. -Korra turns against the Water Tribe Chief for being a lying snake ;P
Daniel Cohen this is why I love these two series and almost never stop watching them. Years later I can read a RUclips comment with 2 likes that brings about an amazing point that I never realized
Yeah, and the lore states that Yangchen was extremely involved in nations' affairs to maintain peace. Kuruk was the exact opposite - which led to Koh stealing his wife's face to teach him a lesson.
@@f_f_f_8142 I think Daniel is referring to the establishment of the Dai Li, the cultural enforcers of Ba Sing Se. This was the result of a peasant uprising against the Earth King. Kyoshi made the Earth King give into some of the peasants' demands, and in return she trained an elite force of Earthbenders to protect the Earth King and maintain order in Ba Sing Se.
F_F_F_ He wasn’t talking about Chin, Chin the Conqueror was not the only person Kyoshi had to deal with in her time. The reason why Chin was able to become such a powerful warlord was because the people of the Earth Kingdom hated the 46th Earth King (the king in charge during the time of Kyoshi and Chin) and we’re eager for anyone new to take control, even if they were a dictator like Chin was. Because if this, a little while after Chin’s defeat, the was a revolt in Ba Sing Se known as the Peasant Uprising where the citizens demanded the downfall of the monarchy. The Earth King called on Kyoshi - he assumed that since she took down Chin that she was on his side - but he was wrong and she sided with the peasants. Kyoshi agreed to train an elite group of Earthbenders (who became the Dai Lee) to protect the Earth King, but in exchange, the Earth King has to relinquish some of his power, and the Earth Kingdom became a constitutional monarchy.
Korra using Naga to threaten the judge gives me chills even though it isn't exactly a good thing for an Avatar to do. Though it did remind me of when Roku barged into Sozin's throne room, wrecked it up, and threatened his life or even what Kyoshi did against the Earth King during her time. Geez, when Avatars get mad, they sure get scary threatening. Unalaq stated that the Avatar has to remain neutral, but the Avatar's job is also to maintain the peace and balance of the world. More Tenzin family moments
I actually think that's the way most Avatars handle things. I think the only ones who don't are the Airbenders because they are monks. But even in the last few episodes of ATLA he spoke to the spirit of the last Airbender who was Avatar and even she said he had to kill Ozai pretty much
Yeah Unalaq was just bullshitting, the Avatar doesn't need to stay neutral Avatars take sides all the time. They have to try to stay objective and do what's best for the world, but if that means taking sides then so be it.
Makes me want to see what happens if a Avatar goes to far with "maintaining peace", like what if an avatar decided to be like superman in the Injustice games where he/she decided to take over the world by force to forever end war under their iron fist. Would definitely be an interesting 3rd series if they ever (most likely not) do a third series.
Ehhh, there's one BIIIG difference with Roku and Kyoshi. Their adversaries initiated violence FIRST, or in the case of Chin the Conqueror, were about to. Therefore, those Avatars acted violently in defense, not offense. This is the first time we see an Avatar act purely offensively and its kind of disheartening and I still believe she was morally wrong to threaten the judge who is innocent as he is just doing his job, even if he turned out to have been paid off. There was no justification to threaten to kill him in cold blood, it just makes Korra look like a potential murderer. In my opinion, the Avatar (being an entity overbearing all nations equally) has the power to intervene and postpone legal judgement. Sadly, Korra is a neutered Avatar with no knowledge of how the world or even justice works :p My 2 cents.
To be fair.. Intense Family Rivalry was really common in ATLA as well. Iroh vs Ozai as well as Azula vs Zuko. Its been a theme in the show since it came out.
I really liked when Nahid started talking about Korra dealing with having to be the avatar when her family is at stake. I like that he acknowledges what that is.
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!! That's what I love about the whole reaction starting from book one! it seems like they're the 1st reaction group to truly understand what it's like to be these situation and they understanding where everybody is coming from. They aren't simply dismissing it or getting frustrated.
Unalaq didn't just pay the barbarians to attack, but also told them to hide in the ancient spirit forest knowing Tonraq will chase them. So the spirits DID get angry because of the destroyed forest at that time :-) btw Chris was fine, haha. If he enjoyed it as well he can come occasionally, just don't spoil :-D (My take on it)
That's true. Still, there is some reason to leave some room open to doubt (because, well, with historical figures people never get a whole answer of how the person really was and the series kind of aims to that, even Aang's kids only have a partial idea of who their father was). My personal take: while some sections of the fandom argue that, anyway, Aang may have shown a disporportionate bias towards Tenzin (considering that vacations may not be part of any training), most of Aang's games and experiences involved actively using airbending to not get harmed (even when he rode the Koi fishes he didn't invite Sokka and Katara to join him on the fish, but to watch; and he almost drawns when things went wrong). It's not unreasonable that he, unwillingly had the bias that he thought it was crazy to take the other children to not do anything, and maybe be in danger. Unfortunately, the kids didn't take it with the same reasoning.
Am I the only one who everytime in the''Thanks Kya. You always know when I need a hug.'' I think of it as a reference to Katara (because hugs) ? The family picture always give feels ! :-D

Each season of Korra deals with some political issues or more accurately, *ideologies* . As a citizen of a post-communist country, this season reminds me of the Soviet Union invading democratic countries in Europe because they "needed help to get rid of violent revolutionaries" who were actually pro-democracy people. Even the invading forces didn't know it was just sanctioned by authoritarian leaders that wanted to stay in power. The soldiers thought they were heroes and were surprised when the citizens "welcomed" them with swearing, booing, aggression.. It's always the people at the top.
Seeing Kaya and Bumi hug made me cry, as I havent talked to my brother for a, very very very long time. We never got along, and he needs my support right now as he's facing a disease but I'm too stubborn to talk to him
It isn't a dog lesh what Eska gave to Bolin. It's a marriage necklace which you get when you marry. Katara got one from her grandmother when she almost married Paku but it didn't work. Yue also got one before she married. It's a tradition. Eska's necklace just looked.... special
I post this every week and you guys sadly never seem to see the comment but I'll post this one last time: The animation only takes a dip from episodes 1 to 6 of Book 2 because they were using Studio Pierrot for those episodes but they went back to their usual Studio Mir after episode 6 and stayed with them until the series ended and the animation goes back to normal once they go back to Mir, so bear with it.
Seems like they do this week-by-week, actually. During the latest Korra video they said it was around Mickey's birthday and, lo and behold, they recently uploaded a birthday unboxing video for him and Marketa: ruclips.net/video/3pLvpBUoNHE/видео.html
Y'know what, I really like this, Chris here really reminds me of Calvin from Blind Wave reacting to Avatar with the other three reacting for the first time. It's good!

roku disagree with with Sozin but he didn't start a war; he put Sozin in place and the guy had to wait until Roku death to start what he planned decades ago
@SHEILA WANJIRU kiyoshi didn't started either, the tyrant (can't remember his name) was conquering other lands and when he got to her village, she defended it and separated it, she didn't even killed him intentionally, although she would if necessary. It was him who knocked on her door.
It happened twice in the original series, but past avatars have the ability to physically possess the current avatar, and it's real because other people react to it. During Avatar Day, Aang literally became Kyoshi to tell her story of Chin the Conqueror, and during the Summer Solstice Roku possessed Aang's body to help them escape the temple. In theory Aang could possess Korra's body to talk to Bumi
Aang didn't really have parents. He was raised as a monk. It stands to reason that he wouldn't be the best father

roku disagree with with Sozin but he didn't start a war; he put Sozin in place and the guy had to wait until Roku death to start what he planned decades ago
@SHEILA WANJIRU kiyoshi didn't started either, the tyrant (can't remember his name) was conquering other lands and when he got to her village, she defended it and separated it, she didn't even killed him intentionally, although she would if necessary. It was him who knocked on her door.
Fun fact the guy who voiced the judge is also the source of
GRAVITY SQUEEZE
Basically Eska is the new Azula from water tribe
24:25 LOL.
Nice vid you all looking fresh and excited 👍😁
More Chris Cam!! :D
Chris Forever.
so here's a question: if the avatar can take away bending, can she also grant bending to those who don't have any?
I dont think so otherwise I feel like sang would have granted the air acolytes airbending so they were air nomads both in culture and bending
@@wolves600 Maybe Aang couldn't do it but maybe Korra can.
