It's actually to help kids when they're first learning to talk. It's a little hard to differentiate me and I because if I'm talking about myself in first person I use a lot of Is and stuff
I forget the exact wording i heard it from but the gist was that they talk in third person because it's easier to their audience to understand who the character is talking about
