So it's not just about the range and flight time. There are a fair few other differences between the Pro and the Air that you might want to think on. What's important to you? And let me know of any ideas for what video you'd like me to do next. Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian, just stumbled across your excellent channel and superb vids. I've been thinking about getting a drone for years, your Air videos have really helped. Odd to think of 2,000 metres away as not far enough according to some people. 2 slight points to add on your details: 2.8 / 2.2 is the aperture, not the focal length. The Air has a focal length of '24mm', giving it a field of view of 85 degrees, the Pro has 28mm / 79 degrees. So the Air is a slightly tighter image. Also it's 100/60 mega*bits* not bytes, bits used for transfer speeds, bytes used for storage size. I would get out more but I'm too busy researching drones and being a pedant :-D Keep up the good work!
Will Snow Thanks Will. Always appreciate a bit of additional technical guidance thanks! The point I wanted to get across is that the smaller aperture means almost everything will be in focus, which was a frequent problem with the Pro. And I forever get my bits and bytes messed up, but again, bottom line, higher bit rate equals better mp4 footage. Keep an eye on me and let me know when I mess up my terminology! :) Cheers, Ian.

Hands down, the BEST comparison video between the Mavic Pro and Mavic Air I've seen to date. Awesome job and I loved the boxing references! Well done!! I'm anxiously awaiting my 'Flame Red' Mavic Air which I should have next Tuesday. Can't wait to get the puppy up in the air. Oh, only one 'small' mistake (or mis-spoken) at the end of the video. You said the pricing as of Feb. 20th...but you meant to say Feb. 2nd, 2018. Great job again!!
Ian your property is so beautiful, I’d love to get out of the city one day. The peace, privacy and freedom out there would be incredible, fly drones and shoot guns on my own property (not at the same time) lol!
Hi, yes, me again. I agree Ian, first DJI one, get the Air. Already got a Pro? Wait for Pro 2! With a bit of luck it will have a 1 inch sensor, 100 mega bit/sec codec, rear sensors and ideally upward facing ones like the Inspire 2, along with a Crystal Sky mount for the controller. Dual redundant batteries? Hmm, nice, but pushing it a bit far. Cost a, wait for it, bob or two! (For those younger than me, or outside UK, a 'bob' was slang for the old one shilling piece, worth 12 old pennies. It's equivalent now is the 5p coin or about 6 to 7 cents or so US. A 'bob or two' was odly slang for 'quite a lot of money'). Do keep these videos coming, they are very interesting. Bob UK.
Robert Hawtin yep... I edited out the bit I did on my hopes for the next Mavic plus...had to keep the video from going on too long but camera sensor and battery was top of my list. A bob or two? Probably more a grand or two .... Cheers fella !!
Thanks John. We've had the lighting and studio for 2 years; in the past I wanted to present more relaxed and less formal videos, but this new setup seems to work nicely. Cheers, ian
I BOUGHT THE MVIC PRO PLAtinum flymore combo, then when i was watching some you-tube tutorials, realised that the mavic air is just as good and smaller, so within a week i was down 2500£. anyway, i think i enjoy the mavic air a lot more, plus its easier to travel with in a country that frowns on them, ie , Morocco.
Thank's for the interesting video. I am in the process of deciding between the Pro and the Air myself. I have a few drones that haven't flown for 4 or 5 years. This is the time well before the automation side of things and the best you had was an altitude hold. Though I diid start building a DJI Flamewheel but that never got finished. I am leaning toward the Mavic Pro at the moment as Amazon seem to be doing some very good deals on it at the moment. One of the deciders for me is the display on the Pro controller. I dont trust a mobile phone enough to be the only method of control. I suppose it's the old school flying, flying models with RC gear thats now inbred into me. Still might sway the other way. Who knows.
wrongway2001 The remote display is good to have. I did an updated video on these two drones the other week. Have a look... ruclips.net/video/cz74HwIaikA/видео.html
Just bought an Air last night, but haven't got out to fly it yet due to torrential rain and storms in Northern Ireland. Have a Spark which I found great, and debated long and hard over MA vs MP as an upgrade path. In the end it came down to the best available deal. Pro has Occusync, a longer range, a rotatable camera and a far better controller, Air has better sensors, good enough air time, good enough range, is a lot more portable for cabin baggage city trips, and has some extra fancy shot modes. Given that I will be flying LOS, the only real features I will miss are the rotatable camera and the dedicated exposure control on the controller. Air gives me portability, extra modes, on board 8gb memory, a more protected gimbal, slightly better slow motion mode, better collision prevention sensors, and oh, and did I mention portability??
Can't argue with any of that Gary. I love the Air for camping and hiking as it's so small and light. And really nippy, even in wind..... Hope you get a lot of fun out of it 😎👍🏻 Ian
@@IaninLondon Cheers Ian, had it out a few times now and really enjoying it. Still haven't pushed the range too far, but gaining in confidence with every flight :)
Good review Ian, I think the air is the upgrade I want from the p3s. Same flight time which doesn’t bother me, no lcd screen isn’t a problem. Better range and size is a plus.
Thanks for another great video. I get my Air on Monday, I can't wait. I already got the DJI Crystal Sky Ultra monitor the other day and it is super duper bright. I can't wait to try it out in the sun when I get my new drone. By the way you have a very cool house. I live in Montana and I'm jealous.
Hi Steve. Thanks for the good words. We had an amazing time in Montana last summer on the way to see the solar eclipse. Great to hear you're getting the Air on Monday. Make sure you watch my top 15 causes of crashes video and take it easy ! Ian.
I've never thought the Pro needed to be any smaller and can't image anyone swapping to an Air from a Pro, but the Air is a fantastic package to start with. I think any Mavic Pro user (myself included) would be looking at the rumored Mavic Pro 2 with 1" sensor, most Pro users just wanted a better camera, Having a Phantom 4 Pro sensor on a Mavic Pro frame would be so much better than shrinking a Pro into a smaller body with the same camera.
Ian Boulton I had a vivid dream that the Mavic 2 had been released and it had a phantom Pro like gimbal and camera , increased flight time and all the improvements in the Mavic Air. So vivid , when I woke up I went on the DJI website to order it. Massive disappointment when I realised it was a dream
You won't get P4 gimbal on a Mavic frame, they are just too different. Its not daft to assume an upscaled Air can carry a bigger sensor, lets see what March brings. dronereviewsandnews.com/rumor-dji-mavic-pro-ii-starts-production/
I fully agree. I tried to keep this review short, but had filmed a section where I stated I was hoping for a Mavic Pro 2 soon with a better camer specs. That will be the reason existign Pro users upgrade I think. Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian, thanks for the balanced view on the comparative. With respect to Enhanced WiFi compared to Occusync, whilst range is one consideration, should we be concerned with signal dropping with Enhanced WiFi due to trees/woodland, buildings, hill valleys, icebergs etc, or if within a sensible range what caution should we take in respect of loosing signal. Additional how do you act when there is a possibility of WiFi interference with respect to keeping control of your Mavic Air? Many thanks.
It's a hard one as the Air really is prone to interference in built up areas. It's not anywhere near as bad in countryside, even with trees and hills. Switching to a channel that's 5.8 GHz is a great way of reducing that town-based interference but that can also limit the range. Either way, make sure the home point is properly recorded at take off.... 😀.
Nice on Ian yeah for me I'm gonna wait for the Mavic 2 coming this match..As you said as an excesting Mavic Pro owner no need really to get the Air..Still a quality piece of Kit But..
heffone1 It's like any camera. The best one is the one that's with you when you want to take the picture or shoot the video. If you have a 4, then I would be inclined to go for the Pro or wait a couple of months and see what else is on the cards from DJI. A better camera is overdue... Ian.
Great review. The big feature on the air for me is the 100Mb bite rate from the camera, but then you trade off the ability to prefocus/manual focus the camera. Very happy with my Mavic Pro and still a lot to learn. Can you tell me what the round disc mounted on the back of your Mavic Pro is?
I have been testing my Mavic Air , both using tablet only (rather than iPhone easier to control on the bigger screen) and also using controller . can get a reasonable range with the tablet 50m height and about 60meters range which is a lot less than with the controller that uses a radio signal . Also I have tested using the drone to see behind my shed which it fared very well using the controller . My older phantom 3 lost signal when it went behind the shed . I believe this drone can use a wifi signal as well as a radio signal same as the mavic pro. whereas the magic pro has a switch to toggle between these modes , the Air has a button which you hold down . Regarding the sd card i had little trouble installing it .
Nice review, thanks. Sounds like the MPro needs a bit of an upgrade in regard to video specs. Just checked the DJI site, and the MPro Platinum does have a few more features, the FPS and bitrate remain unchanged. I also wonder how long before that new clear gimble/lens protector becomes fogged.
Ian, as usual, love the reviews! You have a great way of putting out an honest review. Also love the accent (I'm from California). I have a DJI Mavic Pro. I did also buy a DJI Mavic Pro PLATINUM because I wanted to have the quieter motors, however, once I received it I noticed that the speed was slower than the DJI Mavic Pro and not really that much more quieter. I am on the fence right now about getting the DJI Mavic Air because I do want the smaller size craft, the back sensors and the new shooting modes look great. But as you said in your review, the range and flight time are both decreased compared to the DJI Mavic Pro. If the price was only $500 I would not hesitate and just buy it.
Hi there; thanks for teh good words. Yes, teh Mavic Platinum was more a case of less annoying ratehr than quieter...just a lower pitch. Let's see what the next few months bring as I'm sure DJi will be announcing an upgaded Mavic Pro soon.... Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian, Can I change stick mode on a Mavic Air ? I fly mode 4 which is Throttle (Vertical control) and Roll on the left stick and Pitch and Yaw on the right stick. Many years experience flying RC Helicopters & Aircraft so I don't want to muck up my learned skills.
There are 3 stick modes and a custom mod as I recall from memory. When the remote and drone are powered on ready for flight, go into the main menu, click the remote symbol (second one down), then click 'Stick Modes'. Set to your heart's content :) Cheers, Ian
Ian on the back of your mavic you had a black circle is that a trackimo ? if so have you ever had any bad interference from it etc or maybe a signal loss ?? thanks only new to the mavic and I am loving it . I have the pro white using an iPad 128 gig with cell iPad mount / sd 64 extreme / and have the dji racing edition goggles on the way thanks for the great videos also
Hi Fella. It's a Loc8tor; I've had the odd bit of interference but nothing major and that was due to it being on the back, near its compass. I've fitted it on the battery on the Air; no problems there. Cheers, Ian
Second question Ian. There is an opportunity to buy a Mavic Ait ‘Outlet’ meaning unused by refurbed with normal warranty, with drones is this a bad idea?
Some dealers sell refurbished models with their own warranty. It's actually a great way of getting a cheaper deal, as long as they're reputable and ensure it's in full working order.👍🏻
Ian, this is the video for me. A first time buyer. So thank you. Here’s the quest though, if both were the same price, which would you be recommending? For me the range is the thing that i am struggling with. 2km would be plenty but for every test saying the range is good on the air there are 3 saying it isn’t great?
TomBoyNI I am not answering for Ian, but I think the question depends on what you want. The Mavic Pro has more flight time, is larger and has a delicate gimbal. It also costs more. It is a great drone. The Mavic air is more portable, less flight time, a better gimbal assembly. I think they are both great drones. I would not want to give one up for the other. You might want to wait in the Mavic Pro because word around the campfire is a Mavic Pro 2 is going to be announced by summer The Mavic air really does travel easily. I took it on vacation and I was never never worried about it being damaged. I might worry about the Mavic Pro because of the gimbal. There are gimbal lock/guards you can purchase for about 10 dollars that keep i it protected.
Thanks Tom, and thanks to Carl for a perfectly balanced reply. I agree with exactly what Carl says; the Air is a great travel drone; it's only drawback to me is the reduced flight time, as the range is more than enough for my everyday needs. If I weere getting my first drone, and wasn't worried about 20 minute versus 28 minute flight times, I'd go for the AIR. But get the combo as I bought two spare batteries after a week and that is almost the extra price of the combo! Ian
Thanks guys - I actually went a bit off the script today and ordered a Flymore Spark. At £500 I found it hard to resist as a trial into drones and aerial photography. Worst case scenario is I have no interest and flog the Spark at a loss - that loss will be no where near as heavy as I would have to take on a mavic Pro and at half the price I opted for the sensible option. If I do like it all this talk about a Mavic 2 keeps a bit of cash in the reserve. Thanks for the replies though I really appreciate it!
TomBoyNI That's a great live for your first drone fella. Great camera and the combo will give you the extra batteries and proper remote.... So that's great. Just make sure you watch my 15 causes of crashes video....:). Ian.
I am a phantom 3 standard owner. And I know in the past you have also owned Phantom 3 standard. I was thinking about upgrading to the mavic air. What are your thoughts?
Hi there. Yes, I went from a P3S to owning both the Pro and the Air. Both would really impress you. If you are okay with the 20 minute flight time then you will love the Air. Its range and signal strength is far better than the P3S the portabilty of the Air is insane; it's truly tiny comapred to the P3 and a fair bit smaller than the Pro. But the Pro does have better range and flight time. My advice is as long as you're okay with 20 min flights and 1-1.5 Km range, the Air will be a fantastic upgrade for you. Hope that helps! Ian
Thanks for getting back to me so fast Ian. How is camera comparison? Flight time seems horrible, but portability seems awesome. Perhaps a spare battery will do the trick. Thanks man.
The camera is practically the same between the Pro and the Mavic; I spec those out on this vid around the 3:00 mark; I also spec the camera differences out on my other 'Which Drone' vid comparing the P3S and the Pro: ruclips.net/video/EW6g_lmZ44I/видео.html You do need to remember to 'tap to focus' on the Pro; not so on the Air. And you get some cool extra quickshots with the Air. Defo get yourself the Combo package to get the extra 2 batteries. cheers, ian
Okay great. Thanks for the reply. And yes I did watch both videos fully. Great videos. I hope that I can get the same depth with the camera on the mavic air since it is not tap to focus compared to my PS3. Have a great day! Ian in London
Well, the AIR camera will simply put everything in focus, just like the P3S does. I had a few blurred videos from the Pro that caught me out. Cheers and all the best fella... Ian
Cheers fella! Glad you like it. I'm actually putting out an updated review on Friday of the Air V the Pro after 4 months of use... They're both great drones though and you'll be happy with either! Cheers, Ian
When I get some spare time! That's the trouble with these 5 days a week jobs; they keep getting in the way of playing.... But I'll be doing more this weekend Paul. Ian
You know that a 2.8 is not as good in low light as a 2.2. Aperture the lower the aperture the better in the light but I've heard that the mavic air was better in low-light so I'm confused..
Thanks Ian. Sold my PS3 and have been awaiting a Mavic Pro's price drop, Still slightly torn even after watching your lasted vids. Time will tell I'm sure 😊
That's personal choice. If you're set to NTSC, you'll have the choice of 30 or 60 fps; if you're in PAL, then 25 and 50. In truth, it's not that important whether it's 25 or 30 fps. But 50 and 60 fps is generally where you may want to slow down fast action shots.... I actually do all my work in NTSC to give me the 30 fps option. Historically it mattered as you got TV flicker based on the Mains electrical cycle, but no one uses old cathode ray TVs now :) This video covers shutter speed, but not frame rate, but will help your understanding of what's involved.... Ian ruclips.net/video/R6KDKMPY_ZU/видео.html
Love watching your Vids Ian, (for various reasons) and the info attached to them. Instead of vogel air . . . why not try the Spark?!?! That one is really BIG in Bavaria and people up on the mountains use that a lot and most are completely happy with it! Maybe give it a try?! Greetings and thanks for your sometimes funny but very interesting vids! Yeah, got to say it, your calves are worth to watch too 😚😚😚 Sorry you had to experience so many losses or crashes. 😫😫😫😫 You guts have fun and enjoy the drone summer ahead! Steffl
Ha... Thanks fella!! With the Pro and Air, I'm not in a hurry to try the Spark as well... Saving up for the Pro ll 😀👍. Summer is on its way... I'll get the shorts out soon 😎 Cheers, Ian
Ian in London ..... i see Ian, you "understood"!? 😉😉😊😊 Shorts (the shorter the better!) was 100% the right answer. Yeah, "summer" in Mid April hit Bavaria and that makes flying the drone sooooo much more fun and with the Alps in the background . . . i'd say, 1 step above Dover Coastal Area 😉😉 You guys have a nice weekend and great weather! AND, stop spending that much on your "toys"! .... don't get me wrong, i'm talking of drones here👍🏻👍🏻 Be good you 2 os should i say 5?!? maybe 9 (incl. the drones!?) ...... Servus from Bavaria, Steffl nice that you replied. COOL 👍🏻
Well, no drone is great for central London as most of it is either a designated No Fly Zone (like all the main parks, eg Hyde Park), or within 150 metres of buildings etc. The Air is quite prone to signal interference in built up areas, so I would definitely go for the Pro if flying near towns and buildings. Ian
Hi Terry; actually I edited out the clip I filmed on APAS and gesture control; primarily because they are, to me, the least useful elements of the new functions. APAS only works if it's already flown that area on that flight; it's not like it will start flying around and over obstacles it comes across for the first time. And gesture control seems truly pointless to me; you have a great controller or the use of your smart phone on a wifi link. Why risk a £770 drone with hand gestures? I had a lot to get through and those two elements didn't make the final cut :) cheers, Ian
From what I've read, and seen, the APAS needs to have built up a picture of its environment before APAS is effective. With no upward sensors, how would it know it's safe to fly over an obstacle unless it's already flown over that obstacle? This is a clip from Tech RAdar's review: "APAS is going to lead to a lot fewer crashes, although the drone does have to fly over an area in order to get a sense of the obstacles to avoid first. That's a small price to pay for avoiding a crashed drone". So to me, it's not as useful as they're making it out to be. I will carry out some testing of it this weekend..... cheers, Ian
Hi, new to drones ( haven't bought one yet) quick question, can I watch my drone footage on my galaxy tab s3? I don't have a lap top and don't want yo splash out on one
Absolutely; the footage is streamed and stored to your phone, but also stored on the drone's micro SD card, as a normal mp4 video that any tablet can view. cheers, Ian
ian bradley Yes Ian. The Air uses a micro SD card and your tablet will be a standard SD card, but all micro SD cards come with mini adaptors so you can split them straight into a standard SD card slot. Then you can copy into your tablet or watch directly from the SD card. Just make sure you get a high speed micro SD card as you're recording large data fast when filming 4k video. Ian
aneesh mullikkadu Hey fella. Love the Air. Smaller lighter and faster in wind. Let down by signal interference in some built up locations and shorter range. Watch this latest vid on them. Should help you...ruclips.net/video/cz74HwIaikA/видео.html
I tend to agree, couldn't really understand my so many rushed out to get an Air when the Mavic does it all. The auto focus is a pain, but lately I've realised the Mavic doesn't really like to much wind, and I'm talking above 12-15 mph, not.gale force. It'll fly but it's not happy. The Air being so much smaller, I assume will just be worse, best video I've seen so far although I have avoided loads because of the hysteria cheers, good to see you back on screen
Thanks Alan. I've flown the Air in 25-30 mph winds but it struggles and I needed to switch to Sports Mode. But as you say, the Pro is similar.... Let's see what's around the corner with a possible Pro-2... Ian
The firmware upgrade this weekend? Yes.. I updated... It reset my camera settings but other than that, I thought it was mostly small technical cahnges, like increased descent sppeed and the like . Full details here: forum.dji.com/thread-134268-1-1.html cheers Ian
If you don't care about money, I would have to recommend the Mavic 2 Pro. It's so solidly built and the signal is absolutely the best there is. But it's also heavy and large compared to the Mavic Air. If you're going to be hiking and flying away from towns and cities, get the Air. Otherwise get the 2 Pro as the Air suffers signal interference in towns and cities and you will start to lose signal anywhere between 500m - 1,500m. Watch this... ruclips.net/video/JDx_93xSW9Q/видео.html Cheers, Ian
Ian in London but in the local store here they don’t have the mavic 2 they only have mavic pro and air, and I’ll mostly fly on the beach and beautiful lookout places, but I might also fly near the city
@@luckyjarras916 No Problem; the original Mavic Pro has a signal strength practically the same strength as the 2 Pro. If you can only get the original Pro that's still an amazing drone and won't let you down. Longer flight time, far stronger signal. The AIr is smaller, lighter, but shorter range and flight time. The Air can do the 'Smart shots' like boomerang etc, [but to be honest you only use them once or twice then probably never again...... Hope this helps. Ian
B Fahey Both models will do you well, but the Air will give great functionality, range and ultimately packs up smaller. So I would definitely go for the Air and you'll probably have no real reason to upgrade later.... Ian
im thinking buying one of the mavic series but still dont know which one is better so i need ur suggestion sir... i have Parrot bebop2 which use Wifi n im having problem with the connection since i live in a dense area ( kindly check at my channel ).. pro using occu sync and pro using wifi ( which im afraid connection problem with parrot bebop2 happened to mavic air ). if i need to upgrade my drone from parrot bebop2 to one of the mavic series which one is better on ur suggestion? thanks ian :)
Hello Bebop boy... As it happens I'm editing another comparison video between the Air and the Pro and hjope to get that video out in the next couple of days that should help you out. In a nutshell, if you live in an area of high interference, the Air may cause issues for you. I find the Air great in the countryside, but not so great near towns. The Pro is rock solid to well beyond 3000 metres away, whlilst the Air can disconnect in just a few hundred metres if it's got interferfence it's not happy about. Keep an eye on my channel and have a watch of this week's video on friday. Cheers, Ian
Noise of the Air is obnoxious. There's a bit more volume than the Pro (especially the Pro Platinum) but the high pitch combined with volume is frustrating to deal with. Sweeping vistas of a coastline or the countryside, fine, no one cares. But for news events, real estate assignments, parades, etc. it calls too much attention.
Anthony C Yes. No doubt they've reverted a bit on the noise which is a shame. You'd think having improved with the Pro Platinum, they'd have carried that prop development over to the Air...
They're both great. And both have differences that may be important or irrelevant to different people. After a few months I made this:. ruclips.net/video/cz74HwIaikA/видео.html
I was very happy after Mavic air launch. 3-4km is very good distance for 21 min batterylife drone. It's very satisfyed distance. Then i watch EU users distance tests... Why DJI, WHY? Is adding Occusync very hard? :(
So it's not just about the range and flight time.
Cheers mate, clear review and you’ve helped with making a purchase decision.
Great Review Ian.
Cheers Ian...yes I'm more than happy with the pro...after 3 months I'm finally getting great footage with the right settings and nd filters 👍
stonie01333 Great stuff. Will be even better in spring and summer... Ian
Robert Hawtin yep... I edited out the bit I did on my hopes for the next Mavic plus...had to keep the video from going on too long but camera sensor and battery was top of my list. A bob or two? Probably more a grand or two .... Cheers fella !!
Great comparison. Interesting. Maybe I will just keep my P4. Christmas is coming though. Fly safe.
Thank you Ian for your precious help ! You answer to a lot of questions !
Thanks Maxime! Glad to help! Feel free to share my video links to anyone you think may be interested! Best of luck! Ian.
Like the new studio set up and lighting Ian very professional 👍🏻
Thanks John. We've had the lighting and studio for 2 years; in the past I wanted to present more relaxed and less formal videos, but this new setup seems to work nicely. Cheers, ian

wrongway2001 The remote display is good to have.
Hi Ian. As a former P3S owner I know you'll love the Air. Cheers, Ian.
Another good video Ian. Thank you.
Ian.
Good review mate.. I’ll be sticking with my P3 standard, but great to see where the technology is leading us.. 👍🏻😃
Fantastic review Ian, thanks so much. So I am off to get an Air..
Thanks for the comparison Ian I think I will stick to my Mavic Pro. Keep the great videos coming 👍
thank you for the concise and honest review. cheers.
Cheers Dan 👍👍
Great vid Ian, very informative. And I love the intro lol :) I also always keep forgetting to turn on airplane mode when filming :D
Cheers Mike !! Yeah, it made me smile in editing so I left it in.... Look forward to watching your views on the Air soon fella. All the best, Ian.
Good review well done mate.
Cheers fella!
Keep the good videos & reviews coming mate.
Cheers Mark. Workign on the full tutorial now..... :) Ian
I've never thought the Pro needed to be any smaller and can't image anyone swapping to an Air from a Pro, but the Air is a fantastic package to start with.
I think any Mavic Pro user (myself included) would be looking at the rumored Mavic Pro 2 with 1" sensor, most Pro users just wanted a better camera,
Having a Phantom 4 Pro sensor on a Mavic Pro frame would be so much better than shrinking a Pro into a smaller body with the same camera.
Many thanks
Nice on Ian yeah for me I'm gonna wait for the Mavic 2 coming this match..As you said as an excesting Mavic Pro owner no need really to get the Air..Still a quality piece of Kit But..
March bloody spell check lol
MrChampions19 Defo inclined to agree with you fella.... Let's wait and see...
The MA I think is actually an upgrade from the MP. JMO
Nice one Ian, I think I will stick to the Pro but think the Air is a good price range for new people wanting to give it a go!
Adrian Mills Spot on...
Awesome video, love the Mavic Pro. We just got one ourselves and are learning to fly it.
Cheers guys! Have fun with your new Pro, and make sure you watch my top 15 causes of crashes....ruclips.net/video/n1DmTQURiTE/видео.html Ian
Great Review, thanks ill stick with Mavic Pro for the moment. Only got it for at Xmas gone.
Nicely done still sitting on the fence for my phantom 4 replacement do need something portable.
heffone1 It's like any camera. The best one is the one that's with you when you want to take the picture or shoot the video. If you have a 4, then I would be inclined to go for the Pro or wait a couple of months and see what else is on the cards from DJI. A better camera is overdue... Ian.
Great informative video, thanks I had better start saving for the air lovely little drone.
Thanks Karen. Yep, it's a shame these toys cost so much :). Ian.
Great video !
Great review. The big feature on the air for me is the 100Mb bite rate from the camera, but then you trade off the ability to prefocus/manual focus the camera. Very happy with my Mavic Pro and still a lot to learn. Can you tell me what the round disc mounted on the back of your Mavic Pro is?
pseudechis Thanks for that... The disc is a loc8tor tracker, as shown in my "Scared of losing your drone" video. Cheers, Ian.
Great video
I also wonder how long before that new clear gimble/lens protector becomes fogged.
yeah... I think we're all waiting for the Pro ll. But that might be next week or next year :) Ian
Great Vid. I'm in the market for a Mavic Air at the moment.
Cheers, Ian
...don't forget the noise on the Mavic Air is the greatest of all DJI drones.
Set to your heart's content :) Cheers, Ian
thanks ian
Ian on the back of your mavic you had a black circle is that a trackimo ? if so have you ever had any bad interference from it etc or maybe a signal loss ?? thanks only new to the mavic and I am loving it . I have the pro white using an iPad 128 gig with cell iPad mount / sd 64 extreme / and have the dji racing edition goggles on the way
thanks for the great videos also
Hi Fella. It's a Loc8tor; I've had the odd bit of interference but nothing major and that was due to it being on the back, near its compass. I've fitted it on the battery on the Air; no problems there. Cheers, Ian
I still wishing the pro
Second question Ian. There is an opportunity to buy a Mavic Ait ‘Outlet’ meaning unused by refurbed with normal warranty, with drones is this a bad idea?
Some dealers sell refurbished models with their own warranty. It's actually a great way of getting a cheaper deal, as long as they're reputable and ensure it's in full working order.👍🏻
Thx Ian
Cool
You might want to wait in the Mavic Pro because word around the campfire is a Mavic Pro 2 is going to be announced by summer
The Mavic air really does travel easily.
Ian.
Good work!
Great Ian again
Ian
Excellent review- a liked video from me I will buy the air 👋👋
Cheers fella! Glad you like it. I'm actually putting out an updated review on Friday of the Air V the Pro after 4 months of use... They're both great drones though and you'll be happy with either! Cheers, Ian
Great Ian when ya doing more on the Air flight modes etc ;-)
When I get some spare time! That's the trouble with these 5 days a week jobs; they keep getting in the way of playing.... But I'll be doing more this weekend Paul. Ian
You know that a 2.8 is not as good in low light as a 2.2. Aperture the lower the aperture the better in the light but I've heard that the mavic air was better in low-light so I'm confused..
Thanks Ian. Sold my PS3 and have been awaiting a Mavic Pro's price drop, Still slightly torn even after watching your lasted vids. Time will tell I'm sure 😊
Hi fella. Maplins had them for £850 last week... maybe watch again and decide whether range, time or size is important.... Cheers, Ian
expect a Mavic Pro 2 soon
Thanks Ian very helpful for a new drone user Mavic air of course.... :-)
Great stuff tomcat. Glad to help. Ian
did you sigh relief reviewing the footage used at 0:44 and 6:39 glad to not clip the branches?
Yes... in fact that was the second attempt after I stopped it the first time... :) Ian
Hi Ian if I was to film in 1080p with the Mavic Air what would be the best frame rate to use ?
That's personal choice. If you're set to NTSC, you'll have the choice of 30 or 60 fps; if you're in PAL, then 25 and 50. In truth, it's not that important whether it's 25 or 30 fps. But 50 and 60 fps is generally where you may want to slow down fast action shots.... I actually do all my work in NTSC to give me the 30 fps option. Historically it mattered as you got TV flicker based on the Mains electrical cycle, but no one uses old cathode ray TVs now :)
This video covers shutter speed, but not frame rate, but will help your understanding of what's involved....
Ian
ruclips.net/video/R6KDKMPY_ZU/видео.html
Ian in London thanks much appreciated Ian again
If you want cinematic awesomeness do 4K 25 frames and 48 aperture
Roland Hernandez thanks for advice 👍
I'll get the shorts out soon 😎
Cheers, Ian
COOL 👍🏻
Hi Ian, is the mavic pro a better option to buy for use in busy central london areas?
Well, no drone is great for central London as most of it is either a designated No Fly Zone (like all the main parks, eg Hyde Park), or within 150 metres of buildings etc.
The Air is quite prone to signal interference in built up areas, so I would definitely go for the Pro if flying near towns and buildings. Ian
Ian in London Thanks and brilliant vids on the channel!
I just had to take my Mavic Air back after a month because it had gimbal overload problem
Did you miss out APAS Ian?
Hi Terry; actually I edited out the clip I filmed on APAS and gesture control; primarily because they are, to me, the least useful elements of the new functions. APAS only works if it's already flown that area on that flight; it's not like it will start flying around and over obstacles it comes across for the first time. And gesture control seems truly pointless to me; you have a great controller or the use of your smart phone on a wifi link. Why risk a £770 drone with hand gestures? I had a lot to get through and those two elements didn't make the final cut :) cheers, Ian
Ian in London APAS really doesn't work in a new area? That's pretty lame.
The Mavic Pro will apparently rise over an obstacle in smart return to home
From what I've read, and seen, the APAS needs to have built up a picture of its environment before APAS is effective. With no upward sensors, how would it know it's safe to fly over an obstacle unless it's already flown over that obstacle? This is a clip from Tech RAdar's review: "APAS is going to lead to a lot fewer crashes, although the drone does have to fly over an area in order to get a sense of the obstacles to avoid first. That's a small price to pay for avoiding a crashed drone". So to me, it's not as useful as they're making it out to be. I will carry out some testing of it this weekend..... cheers, Ian
Wow didn’t know that about apas. Interesting
Hi, new to drones ( haven't bought one yet) quick question, can I watch my drone footage on my galaxy tab s3? I don't have a lap top and don't want yo splash out on one
Absolutely; the footage is streamed and stored to your phone, but also stored on the drone's micro SD card, as a normal mp4 video that any tablet can view. cheers, Ian
Thanks for the reply, so I can pop the SD card in to the slot in my tablet and I can view the footage right?
ian bradley Yes Ian. Ian
Ian in London, thanks Ian, much appreciated😉
I think I will wait for P2.
Cess Outdoors Yep... Can't wait :). Ian.
Mavic air is a better machine, just as good video, enough flight time and range then factor in price and portability.
Yep, it's not black and white.... But it's a fantastic little machine... Have a look at this 5 months on... ruclips.net/video/cz74HwIaikA/видео.html
Bro which one batter drone tell me please
aneesh mullikkadu Hey fella.
Ian
Ian in London yup. Have you tried the new Mavic software yet?
The firmware upgrade this weekend? Yes.. I updated... It reset my camera settings but other than that, I thought it was mostly small technical cahnges, like increased descent sppeed and the like . Full details here: forum.dji.com/thread-134268-1-1.html
cheers
Ian
Ahah great way to start that video!
Yes... It made me laugh when I was editing, so I decided to keep it in :)
Ian in London haha awesome glad you did! It gave me a kick as well 👍
I am deciding between mavic pro or mavic air
What would you choose and why
Don’t care about money btw
Ian
Ian in London Thanks, tbh you helped a lot
Hi Ian. Awesome videos. For an absolute novice, would you recommend the spark or mavic air. Cheers in advance
B Fahey Both models will do you well, but the Air will give great functionality, range and ultimately packs up smaller. So I would definitely go for the Air and you'll probably have no real reason to upgrade later.... Ian
Sold mine range was terrible
Same as me air range sux
im thinking buying one of the mavic series but still dont know which one is better so i need ur suggestion sir... i have Parrot bebop2 which use Wifi n im having problem with the connection since i live in a dense area ( kindly check at my channel ).. pro using occu sync and pro using wifi ( which im afraid connection problem with parrot bebop2 happened to mavic air ). if i need to upgrade my drone from parrot bebop2 to one of the mavic series which one is better on ur suggestion? thanks ian :)
Cheers, Ian
can't wait to see ur new video sir... thanks
I have an air and my friend has a pro. He thinks my air is better and I think his pro is better. Must not be too much difference in the 2.
They're both great. And both have differences that may be important or irrelevant to different people. After a few months I made this:. ruclips.net/video/cz74HwIaikA/видео.html
Mavic Air>>>Pro
I was very happy after Mavic air launch. 3-4km is very good distance for 21 min batterylife drone. It's very satisfyed distance.
Then i watch EU users distance tests... Why DJI, WHY? Is adding Occusync very hard? :(
Yep... reckon they messed up leaving that out......
