the double lock feature of cuffs is to stop the cuffs from tightening even more and to make lock picking a bit harder to do, most cuff keys have a little piece of metal sticking out well you use this to press in a little button or you use it to a move a little piece of metal side to side to also double lock.....

As for those who think this is a get-out-of-jail free card, when handcuffs are used correctly, this video doesn't do anything to help you get out of them... not on your own. Your palms should be facing away from each other and the key hole towards your body and away from your finger tips. (When an escape artist is handcuffed, you'll notice their palms face each other making easier for them to use their hands to help either pick the lock or use a hidden key... and they don't double lock them.)
I have picked handcuffs while handcuffed the correct way palms facing out and keyhole away from fingers and it is much more complicated than just trying to twist your hands around it makes it super tricky. I have done it 2 ways in the past and with the amount of time it took me my first go an officer would have caught my ass tampering with the handcuffs. However, If you are flexible enough the best way to get out of them is by getting your hands in front of your body and it makes it much easier but if you aren't that flexible the only way you are getting them off is with a great amount of luck. When I first got out of them I lost track of how many times I dropped the paperclip.
So, in the anti-manipulation version, the lower metal part that double-locks consists of two separate plates? And why can't you use the bobby pin to make both of the plate return to their initial position? P.S. Can you please post another video that shows how the handcuffs with the keyhole in the middle work? They're slightly different. Or if you don't have such a modified version for demonstration, try to describe the difference. Thank you mate!

Max R not when they’re double locked. They’re locked and you’re not getting them off. Also the only time you’ll be in handcuffs is in police custody, where you should not be trying to remove the handcuffs. The double lock prevents the handcuffs from being removed by blocking the ratchet arm in place engaged against the arm which is locked in place on your wrists.

I can see how that bar makes it so hard to pick. You can easily access it but you have to have a lot of force to move it to the unblocking position.
