Jennifer is so interactive while interviewing her guest. While not speaking the language, she is engaging, makes eye contact, and is receptive to body language and facial expressions. She is an excellent host, as though she has been doing this for a lifetime.
Is it a big fat paycheck... Because I feel like 10 years from now, he's going to be on a podcast saying they did not pay what you think...like everybody else.
She did not make him uncomfortable, unlike other interviewers who can't see asian people's success. Really appreciate calling him on the show. Also, the translator, she is amazing ❤
@@Heyguhh There are a lot of interviewers who treat asians who aren’t fluent in English in a very toddler like way. It’s so strange, I can’t really further explain it. She wasn’t like that towards him though. This interview felt natural and not as awkward.
If anyone watched The Acolyte you know he speaks really good English. He actually learned the language in a short amount of time specifically for the role, but glad they're accomodating him during the American press junket and allowing him to speak his native language.
It's also great to see the same translator from when the cast was invited to the Golden Globe Awards. The translator must be highly respected by Lee Jung-jae and the cast/director for allowing them to speak freely in their native language, to connect with their Korean and international fans.
It’s always a lot easier to express yourself in your native language and it would be genuine interview if he’s able to convey his message better without thinking the right english words to say.
He understands English as the translator is giving him just the questions so he can answer correctly. It's different when you have a script vs using all of correct tense etc. Sometimes the translation doesn't quite express the sentiment (learned this on overdubs on the 1st season). Glad they made sure he was comfortable.
I haven’t watched The Acolyte, but I’ve heard he’s really good in it and that a lot of people were surprised when they found out he’s not fluent in English. I had a similar reaction when I watched recent interviews with Jyoti Amage and she used an interpreter. She spoke English in American Horror Story so I assumed she was fluent.
I don't know Korean language, but my guess is that this translator is top-notch. I haven't seen one taken notes whilst doing it, and it makes so much sense. Kudos to her!
I love this interview. Jennifer Hudson is so respectful to the guests and is patient with the translator. She's not rushing anyone but really letting them speak to the audience. Lee Jung Jae is so natural, polite, and freely articulate. This is very wholesome.
I wish this interview was longer! Great job to Jennifer for being respectful, making Lee Jung Jae feel comfortable, listening patiently and intently, and asking the right questions, despite the language barrier. You’ve got a new subscriber!
I love South Korean dramas. I'm so glad they are released internationally with subtitles. Now the actors can enjoy worldwide fame. It's so nice to see Lee Jung Jae in the U.S. being interviewed on a talk show and the audience knows him and loves him.
Jennifer is absolutely AMAZING with how she treats her guests and the audience. She is my ne fav daytime host!! She's also super talented herself, the Christmas duet with her and Andrea Bocelli who also came on her show still blows my mind with her vocals!!!
Lee Jung Jae is an excellent actor. I have watched most of his movies and series. I Love his humbleness, so sweet. Thank you for inviting him to your show.
I appreciated this interview. There was another show where foreign guests were made fun of as the way to engage and that always made me uncomfortable. Lee Jung Jae looked at ease here. Lovely interview ❤
😂😂😂I find it fun that he delivered a full speech in Korean and I loved the fact that Jennifer is maintaining eye contact and responding in a manner 3:04 (that is amazing ). I love her courtesy ❤.
Love the fact she wasn't afraid to be inclusive and diverse no matter the barriers. We all grow when we give the world around us a chance to be both seen and heard. The interview was well done. Very interactive and respectful on all sides. I am sure he was probably quite nervous as well. Even if you can't understand a language, there are things that automatically translate, that is, a smile and laughter. Once again well done. God bless and Christ keep you always.
I love that it is within our communication strategies to nod with people as a sign of respect to show that your listening even though we may not understand a word said. Go South Korea, I have been a huge fan of Korean Drama and shows for years. Great job Lee Jung-jae for being a part of bringing South Korean drama to many people all over the world.
He’s so adorable! And it’s true what he said about knowing you’ve made it in Korea when you get offered free dessert 😂 I lived in Seoul over a decade ago, and I acted in a couple of TV shows and infomercials. Whilst I wasn’t a celebrity by any means, I would often get recognised. I got free dessert once, but when my mom came to visit, pretty much every restaurant we went to brought us over either a free dish or free drinks (one place sent us over free Jagerbombs which was hilarious as my mom doesn’t drink alcohol). I think we got all those freebies (they refer to them as “service” in Korea) because I was with my mom rather than the fact that I was recognised from the TV! People in Korea are very generous.
Hi from Seoul, Korea! ^^ Thank you so much for bringing beloved Korean actors like Lee Jung-Jae onto your show and having so much respect for their craft. I really appreciate how patient Jennifer is compared to other talk show hosts and the questions she asks are so thoughtful. Lee Jung-Jae also has an amazing translator; I've actually seen her on a lot of other shows with Korean celebrities and she deserves so much praise. 인터뷰 정말 즐거웠어요~ 감사합니다~
He is a very handsome man..His smile is cute 🥰. Very funny & humble. Congratulations to him & the whole cast of the Squid Games..The directing & writers…Season 1 & 2 are phenomenal ❤❤❤❤To all the behind the scenes member’s Congratulations in the drama that made it possible. Fantastic interview by Jennifer & the interpreter.
First I listen Lee Jung-jae in Korean and see myself nodding as I understand more and more words, thanks to the k-dramas and the Hangeul I've learned. Then I listen to the incredible interpreter who translates into English and I understood 100% of what she's saying, even though I'm French. Life is even more extraordinary when you open doors to other cultures. I'm delighted for South Korea that this country is recognized throughout the world, not only thanks to the 7th art, but also for its music, its cuisine and its culture, particularly its beautiful and amazing language, of which there are now millions of us who have learned its writing system : Hangeul. King Segon the Great, who invented Hangeul in 1443, wanted his language to become universal, and so it has 🙏🫰🌏
And also a big THANK YOU to this show, which I'm discovering for the first time, for letting the guest speak in his mother tongue and us listen to him and then the translator. What harmony ! It's not just respect for the guest. But also the translator and finally the audience. What delicacy and kindness on the part of this professional whom I'm going to discover more about by subscribing to her show. Infinite gratitude, Merci du plus profond de mon coeur Jennifer 🙏🫰🤗
I have a little crush on him. He’s so sweet and adorable. Also kudos to the interpreter. I have done interpreter work because I am bilingual. This was slower paced which is not easy but easier than simultaneous translation where you interpret only a few words behind the person speaking like they do at the UN or in live tv broadcasts. It can be so difficult when people are speaking fast or over one another or using idioms that don’t directly translate. One time when I was training to become a court interpreter we were in mock trial and my mind got mixed up and was speaking in Spanish to the judge and English to the defendant. That’s because in my mind I can’t always tell what language I am speaking. I do this to my friends too and don’t realize what language I am speaking to them until they get a confused look on their faces. 😂😂😂
I still remember his first movie " Il Mare". He's soo good looking! Later on that movie was remade by Hollywood starred Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.
I just finished watching season 2 of Squid Game. Both shocking, cruel and even funnier than the first season. I enjoyed it immensely. However it is not finished yet. The end of season 2 means there's supposed to be a continuation to season 3. So i'm looking forward to season 3 also. Cheers.
My friend worked with Lee Jung Jae at the Café at that time. My friend is same age with him. She noticed directly his debut process in front of her eyes.
