This is my DIY hammock tarp. It is made from silnylon with tech line guy lines.
Tarp: 15.6 oz in stuff sack
Materials for this build were purchased from: diygearsupply.com which I would recommend for any DIY project you have. Their prices were the best and the shipping was fast.
Looks awesome buddy. It takes DIY to a different level!
Nice. I'm getting ready to make one myself, but I think I'm going to go a little smaller with an 11" ridge. Basically the plan from DIY Gear Supply's web site.
Great work man, was wondering if you had an update as to how well it worked
It works great! I've never been wet under this tarp.
That looks really good (to me anyway), maybe a loop in the ridgeline would have helped,
the shock cords on the tie outs should help in windy conditions, as they will give the tarp a degree of flex, rigid tie-outs are more likely to tear,
is the material cheap to buy ??.
atb,
barry
can u post a link to instructions on making the tarp and bug net. Hope your having a great trip buddy.
Thanks for sharing! I'm just getting into hanging, and have always enjoyed DIY gear. I was looking to make a hex tarp for myself and was wondering if you had any suggestions from your design (i.e. those bungee loops work?). This pretty much looks like what I had envisioned for my own project.
Why do you seal the tie outs?
how many yards of silnylon did you use?
nice tarp were did you get the specs
what was the total cost and how many yds of fabric did you order?
+Christopher Castano I used about 9 yards of material. If I remember correctly, and it's been a while, I think total cost was around $70.
It's not too expensive. It can be found for around $8 a yard.
Specifically what type of silnylon did you use? 1.1 oz?
1.1 oz silnylon. This time I sourced it from DIYgearsupply. More recently, I've been using ripstopbytheroll.
what kind of thread did u use?
You want to use a 100% polyester thread. Cotton thread can rot and decay in moist conditions. I recommend Gutermann's thread.
Can I ask your total cost? looking at doing this myself but might be cheaper just to buy on.
It's pretty cheap at around $60-$70. Check out ripstopbytheroll's website for some cheap silnylon.
So you could buy one for the cost to make it?
Nice work by the way.
Goat I would say an equivalent tarp would run you between $200-$300 online. So (excluding work hours) this would be quite a savings over buying one.
Great thanks for the info the video was very helpful.
@MrJadams27 ~$60-$80 I believe.
Search for black cat tarp instructions on google.
total price tag ?
how much did it cost?
Around $70-$80
15.6 ounces.....thats only 450 grams...what are you complaining about? What are the dimensions?
If I pay would you consider making and shipping me one?
