You need to keep in mind that it's a black class knife design for first responders / military / tactical use. And for those folks who carry a ton of stuff all day long ounces count. And it's not just a polymer handle it's a carbon fiber polymer blend and the thing is absolutely bulletproof from the testing I have seen people do with it I mean real abusive stuff. I bought one because I wanted an OTF that was actually useful and not some sort of mall ninja looking high dollar unpractical blade shape and lightweight is definitely a selling point for me with my lifestyle. Allegedly they're doing the steel at 63 to 65 and I've been real impressed with it in my use even when I bounced it off of staple and had to sharpen out minor edge damage
I’ve used my to open bottles. It takes a shitload of force and a real sharp edge to actually mark the handle material and for that matter the blade coating as well.
It is probably my favorite knife forever. It's a workhorse. By accident I stepped as hard as i could on mine & nothing happened, & I weigh 350lbs. Out the center with cru wear, super grippy & the lightest knife I own? SOLD!
I love mine. I’ve used the hell out of it the past few weeks. Slices very well. Easy to sharpen. The best part for me is the handle. It feels oversized and well rounded so holding onto it for strong cutting is a pleasure.
I remember my first time going to a knife store and seeing a hellcat thinking "I'll open this no problem", I did not even get close to opening it. Had to use two hands and tremble to push that new strong spring out (didn't buy it so not sure if that resistance goes away overtime) so the lighter spring on this knife is a massive plus for me personally.
I love how light it is. Absolutely invisible in pocket. That carbon fiber impregnated nylon is incredibly strong. Jerad, you should open it up or watch OCD-4-ECD's teardown video. The internal frame that holds the frame is steel and super solid!
@@cueball981 When the heck are we going to see a "Cueball Collection Video"??? Just from the knives I have seen of yours on various channels, you have one heck of a collection.
This knife is a tool, it works. I have this and the mini-bugout in that orange grivory. I have big heavy knives as well. I'd suggest going for perforamnce over weight. Bemchmade isn't making knives out of materials that are going to cause a bunch of returns because of breaking handles. They choose these materials because they are superior, best bang for the buck.
It is my favorite OTF that truly is an EDC. Lightweight and incredibly sharp out of the box. I like it much better than my Microtechs and Guardian Tactical for real practical use. "Workhorse" is right.
Really like the look of this one and like you I love Cruwear steel very tough and takes a great edge. Where it falls a little flat for me would be the weight (mind you I've never held it) and the movement of the blade (common in OTF's and one of the reasons I don't own any) and the glass breaker is something I don't need on a knife. But if your into super light knives this one is definatly worth a closer inspection. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
I almost bought one a while back. I really like the look but I was a bit ify bout the Handle material. I do still like the look. Maybe in the future. Thanks Jerad.
I Have Had The Chance To Hold The Shoot Out and Yeah, Its Super Light To The Point You May Feel Like You Can Lose It. In Your Pocket You Don`t Know Its There. An Aluminum Body Would Make This One A No Brainer. Besides That, Benchmade Hit A Home Run.
Anyway you can check out the ridge summit knife. It’s $125 with d2 and aluminum and $175 with d2 and carbon fiber. I really want the carbon fiber to match my wallet but that seems like too much for what it is and only d2 steel. I’d love to know if you think it’s worth the price.
hey jared have you heard of the kansept knives it has a tanto damascus blade and a spec of timascus or something on the handle anyways it is good looking but i am into higher prices knives but there is something about this knife that makes me keep looking at it .i think it is 249 dollars anyways do you know if these things are any good?
@@craigm2484 yessir, I'm really happy with it, for half the price with aluminum handle instead of frn. It's my first otf, I couldn't justify $300 just to try something out
Ngl it’s probably my least favorite knife because I got it in green and it gets dirty just looking at it. But it cuts insanely well whenever I actually use it.
I’ve had mine since November and throw it at a piece of plywood everyday and there is zero increase in blade wobble. Blade is super tough, takes a bit to sharpen but sharpens very nicely. It took me quite a bit of rough treatment to wear my working edge down. My dream is for an American made knife like this to be $200 or less. I’d buy my entire family a shootout if they were a little cheaper.
Benchmade calls the handle material CF Elite, carbon fiber reenforced nylon. Still not for hard use, although I've been enjoying mine for multiple purposes. Thanks for the review! 👍🗡️👊
I can imagine it feels like a toy cause honestly imo it looks like one. I know it's a bm and great steel but now that I heard you say it it does look cheap and that's not something you see from bm too often
Looks quality, high quality plastic and all. But Aluminum would be sweet. I love that blade shape, curved tip tanto. Hope you got to put a nice new edge on it!
I never understood what the big deal with Benchmade was. I've owned several of these knives and they're okay but they are definitely not worth the money. I own thousands of knives and that is not the one I would pick. Don't get me wrong they do have some good qualities but I don't think they're the best
@@charliebaker1427 I know that, if I wanted a "strong knife" I wouldn't buy an OTF. I've handled one of these and they feel cheap and id prefer g-10, I don't plan on using an almost 300$ knife to pry open paint cans or hammer nails that's what my mora robust is for
I couldn’t help it and laid into Benchmade for their maniacal commitment to avoid good materials like titanium and they have firmly decided to maximize profit with plastic - I guess because people keep buying them.

$270 for a good OTF is downright *reasonable* for people who want a knife to be a knife and not "pocket jewelry".
Just got one of these as a gift. Good review.
🤗thats a nice gift!

Cool video thanks.
Is that the handle material that is like a CF mixed with FRN? CF Elite or what Benchmade calls it.

Owned for 2 days- felt like crap - wiggled like an old lady - one of the cheapest pricey for what I experienced - great review - you where to kind
Almost all OTF knives wiggle unless you pay high high dollar for a Deadlock.
@@cueball981 I’ll stick to Microtech and heretic for now rather pay than pay for junk 😃

I almost bought this, but the price point kills me. Ik, ik, cheaper than a microtech, but I bought a different brand instead in D2 for my first otf
Cobra ? I got one in D2 it's a Good knife .

You said a Cruwear Benchmade on the live stream last night, figured it had to be either the Shootout or Anonimus.
I wantz it
I bought a microtech ultratech and it broke within 3 hrs of owning it. Total pos . I’m going with this otf

If you hold it in a reverse grip and open with your little finger, would it be an "Out the Back" instead?
Lmao technically yes, I guess. Might need to do some pinky workouts first though 😆
It reminds me of a benchmaid bug out feeling
I love the shoot out but don’t take it apart 😂 took me a while to get it back together, but I did. Mine has been threw some shit! Still going strong.

Its carbon fiber nylon, its way stronger then g10 is lol

For $315 it definitely needs to be aluminum. Have handled it and it just feels cheesy.
I do like this blade shape. Just not a otf fan.
I do wish theyd have done metal scales personally but at the same time non metal scales are more pocket friendly with other stuff in the pocket
I think Guardian Tactical offers better quality and value by far. I will pay the Butterfly Tax if I have to but not for this OTF.
Too much for the Handel material. Jmo
