Is a 270-gr., 375 H&H bullet enough for the notorious Zambezi Delta Cape Buffalo?

- Welcome to Ron Spomer Outdoors! I have a special treat involving a good friend of mine who's really enthusiastic about going on safari in Africa. We hunted together, and our wives joined us on a trip to Mozambique. We had such a great time that all he can think about is going back to Africa. So we are going to tell everybody about this adventure we had, but I really want to hear it from your perspective, folks. What I really enjoy about taking new hunters to Africa, someone who's never been there before is sharing their experience with them or seeing it through their eyes.

Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

You got me with the YT phone notification. I thought you were using ye ole 270 Winchester 😂😂😂. Wasn't until the video launched and I read the full title, which makes more sense.
All my life, I have dreamed of going on a safari in Africa, now. In my 60s, it is quite clear that I will never be able to afford that. That being said, It didn't stop me from buying a rifle in 375 H & H.
After all, there's some big old wild hogs out here in the Florida swamps that can be tough to stop!
I'm always one rifle away from happy.
Never give up hope! It's the best experience you will have with your clothes on... I would, however, upgrade from a 375 as buff have phenomenal ability to absorb hot lead.
@bertielombard1801 I like the way you think, and I do have a 416 Taylor build on a 1909 argentine action in the works!
@@floridagunrat1625same here. Guess I’ll sel mine, never been shot.
Just know that you can hunt plains game in Limpopo for $3k to $20k … a 7 day hunt starts at appx$400/day plus trophy fees…👍👍
270 grain .375 is well known as the all round bullet and of no other options depending on maker I would used it . 270 grain Brenneke TOG ,NF or Rhino for instance expanding ones .
On both my buff I used 350 grain 375 H&H. Last one North Fork Dangerous Game softs with solids for follow up shots, both loaded for the same point of aim at 50 yards - around 2,150 FPS. Both bullets (Woodleigh and North Fork) performed perfectly, neither bull required a second shot.
Ok ill suppose ill be the first non bot/unhinged comment and say thanks for the clip
You clearly did not get the memo. This nice comment has no place in the YT comment section. 😜
@@sar4x474 i will fight the p0rn bots and bad engrish!!
No personal experience but given the legendary toughness of these critters I would have gone with a 300 grain for higher sectional density and larger meplat. My short answer to the question is No.
My comment also disappeared. YT does strange things.
all the time .....................
Been having that. Go figure.
First shot was a kill shot. Such a tough animal. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
It was up and going for quite some time and took several more rounds..
Minimum legal caliber is 375. Minimum personal caliber is 40 with 400 grain bullet. Preferred caliber is 45 with 500 grain bullet.
What about expanding vs non expanding?
A well placed shot with a 3006 and top shelf expanding bullets gets it done the bigger rifle caliber you can shoot well is better yet bullet placement is king
220 grain Swift bonded in a 30-06, no talking back to that.
@tomdonaghy8625 sectional density for days it's good for em and it helps em too
Congrats!!!!
As always, it's about shot placement. Practice, practice practice!
Loved the drums
My knee jerk opinion is that 200 grains going fast enough is sufficient to kill any land animal on the basis that the square cube law and modern gravity prevents any fauna from developing musculature that would deter a 200 grain bullet going more than 1700 fps. Having said that, of course heavier is theoretically better, but how much better do you need?
I LOVE my Mossberg .270… not very common, but it’s a perfect rifle for the set up I have it for… for coyotes I will for sure reach out and try 700-800 yards but I’m not quite there yet. For deer and elk… I am very comfortable shooting 600 yards (I like to get closer when hunting an animal) at the range but depending on the situation… I’d feel comfortable reaching out to 500. I found the Hornady’s Precision ELD-X 145g shoot awesome- 37.5 inch drop at 500, super fun!
270 grains, not a .270
@@cccmmm1234 true, but he still loves his .270.
@@duggydo certainly does love his .270! Lol.
Meat on the table👍🏻
At around the 1:15 I thought he was drumming "Let the bodies hit the floor" song 😂😂😂
It'll do the job but I'd take something a bit bigger
How did these invasive Marsh Buffalo's get to Louisiana?
Too funny!
Hope they migrate to New York!
I was wondering what the best factory load was for the 30.06 everything frum bobcats to whitetail. I live in east Texas
I always liked the 165 grain Hornady Interlock
3006 is a little overkill for bobcat, isn't it?
It’s all 8.6 Blackout on B&T hardware now. That’s what I’m seeing in the bush.
Too weak.
What bush? Bunny bush? 😂
Whose bush, Kevin Brittinghams? All because he flew to Africa just to shoot one with his 8.6 so he could tell everyone he did? You’ve had more Cape Buffalo and other huge dangerous game killed with the lowly 303 British than probably any other cartridge, yet no one is advocating for taking that with you.
Isn’t 375 the minimum legal caliber?
why back the blue if the blue is more than willing to enforce laws to disarm you?
They don't make the laws and it's not their right to decide which laws to enforce. I thought that was obvious.
@@stanpotter7764 oath breakers?
@manny2ndamendment246 Aren't you an edgy one! 🤣
@@stanpotter7764 back the blue when they orders to put people inside box cars?
@manny2ndamendment246 What oath? To uphold the constitution? Every right has limits, even the 1A. Cops only do a job enforcing the laws. If the People don't like the laws, they can vote. It's that simple.
bad shots
No, an extremely tough animal.
@@danblumel use a bigger gun instead of a pea shooter
@@ClovisPoint Thousands of buffalo have been taken by .375 H&H. Just what do you consider rhe proper caliber? @danblumel is right. Here's a clip of a buffalo that took TEN shots from a .470 Nitro before going down:
ruclips.net/video/L6t3NNOHv9g/видео.html
Or are you going to call the .470 a peashooter as well?
Eccellente calibro per l'Africa (un passepartout)
Ma per i bufali il minimo sindacale è 458
Anche se li ho abbattuto con palla da cinghiale calibro 12
