The COFFIN EXPLAINED, as much as it can be explained. We bought and were fixing up the little house next to us, where Dixie and MarDe stayed, to rent to my son's friend. He acquired the coffin, which had only been used for Halloween, but stored it in the house so that he could sleep in his hearse at music festivals.

I was recently out solo camping, and I noticed a large bug crawling on my water cooler. I got up close and said, “Hey Mr. Bug. What are you up to?” in my best southern accent. I felt your critter-lovin’ spirit at that moment. Haha In all seriousness, I was a tad nervous as I was the only person in the primitive campground that night. I just thought, ‘If Dixie can pop a tent in the middle of the woods by herself, I can definitely survive this cozy camper just fine.’ Thanks for being a lovely example of trusting & respecting nature - especially as a solo female.

Dixie I love your humility that you’re still surprised to get any kind of celebrity treatment even after amassing 350K+ subscribers and helping (I’d assume) thousands of hikers know how to start backpacking. I’m certainly one - tips and tricks I picked up from you helped me start backpacking again after I hadn’t gone since I was a kid, this time taking my own kids. This series especially is really enjoyable in how it’s shot, edited, narrated, etc.

Wow! I must say this episode was epic! Incredible things happened on this segment. I literally got goose bumps listening to the story of the county that extended unusual hospitality to you, then the couple that took you into their home. And the story of you meeting up with the biker at your 500 mile marker just when you needed a little lift in your spirit. Remarkable happenings! I think the county should hire you to be the face to promote the Florida Trail.🙂

I discovered a piece of the trail magic "magic" when I moved to Hoboken NJ (of all places). Like most Americans, I had always lived mostly car-dependent but when I move to Hoboken, I no longer had a car to get around. So I learned life on foot and it is really one of the most transformative shifts, truly epochal, in my life. The pace, the way you observe and interact with other people and your surroundings, instead of flashing past inside a solid box, can connect you to the world you live in in such a more intimate and sympathetic way. You deal with other people in ways that you wouldn't have the chance to if you are driving everywhere, chance encounters that can add so much richness to your day .I think you see that really powerfully in the hiker community because it's a concentration of this human-scaled walking-paced culture and then the communities or "trail towns" start experiencing the ripple effects whether or not they realize the reason behind it. It's going to be hard to leave this area for me because I will miss that way of life, which doesn't really exist in other part of the US to this degree. But I would truly love to see more places in the US and people get to know "walking magic" and reshape communities as a result, because it really changes your world.

At 14 hiking Yosemite to Red's Meadows the dream was born. Now at 64 I want to send a clear message to my 14 grandkids that it's never too late to do big things.

The biker at mile 500 must have been following the early highway called the Old Spanish Trail. Most of it later became US 80, US 290, and US 90. The PCT crosses it at Boulder Oaks CG, and the CDT crosses it in Lordsburg. It went though San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, Deming, El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, Tallahassee, Jackson, and St. Augustine. The old road through eastern Florida was the "Dixie Highway."

Turned out he and his wife used to go bike packing when they were young.

OMG... Love these videos of you on the Florida trail. I am a Floridian and I have camped in the middle of nowhere many times where I was woken by to what sounded like an alligator feeding on something. One time I woke up to what sounded like a wild boar eating a chicken. One time I was woken by coyotes howling and another time I was woken by what sounded like a Yeti growling LOL. Love the synchronicity of the number 5:55 as a camping fee. ❤️ Dixie I think its the magic that follows you because you are special. 🙂 Let me know when you all get near the Tallahassee area I can do some trail magic for you guys. 🙂

What an amazing video. Thanks for continuing to inspire us all. I'm so glad you got to see Alexander, probably my favorite spring. It was refreshing to see all the Florida hospitality... welcome signs, dinners, and of course the cold beers! Cheers!

I like to make jokes about MarDe messing with the animals, but that diamondback incident was terrifying...and I wasn’t there! 😲

Dixie, this was such a cool video to watch. Putnam County is my home, born and raised, and I love that they treated you so well. I have recently come to enjoy hiking and my first goal is to complete the Florida Trail in Putnam County. It was so cool watching you highlight the area and to see some of the same places I've enjoyed on my day hikes. Happy trails and who knows, maybe one day i'll run in to you.

I've followed your hikes for years and have enjoyed every step of the way. Stay safe and never stop exploring. BTW, stay away from those rattlesnakes.

There were many things about this video that made me smile... I'm a veteran long distance bicycle tourist and we share the experience of having chance encounters with interesting people; hearing critters complaining about being eaten while in the Everglades back country; and having an unanticipated experience that rejuvenates you after days of drudgery. All good stuff!
