It's extremely easy to get discouraged online, I've almost quit a couple of times but eventually I decided to just not care about gaining a big following or a lot of likes. I just try to focus on improvement and I've been in a better place with My art recently.
Insane Werewolf same, I watched this video, forgot her name but it’s why I unfollowed everyone on Instagram and why you should too, I now have 120 followers (same as before) but I was following like 100 people, and now it’s around 50. It’s so much better for me because even if they are your friends, if someone you follow is not making you happy, confident or self loved than you should unfollow them. I now follow people who I feel inspired and not guilty when I see their posts, stories ect. Also if they are negative, that’s a big sign too that you should unfollow them🧡💙 But yeah that’s why in the first place I got discouraged, I’d get angry and sad when I would see people post art and it made me so frustrated. But the truth is, is that maybe they had more time or more practice, everyone and ANYONE can achieve their goals 🧡💙 I just feel if you unfollow negative people, and they don’t even have to be like mean, maybe they just don’t interest you, it can be better for you.
@@potpourri565 use the flash and bump up contrast and brightness In post. Then mess around with saturation and shadows. It can totally change the way your pictures come out
I definitely felt discouraged because of follower numbers- but im learning to ignore them and I’m happy with the few followers I have that really support me.
Seeing fellow artists that have followed you from the get-go and still supporting you is the best motivation....but also disheartening when they finally unfollow you for whatever reason.
My friends always say things like "I don't like it, it looks bad, you need to draw more *insert their favourite animal or celebrity*" and whenever I tell them that it's not helpful and stuff like that negatively affects my esteem, they just tell me I need to learn how to take constructive criticism..
I know what you mean. It’s weird how people that don’t do art don’t quite get like how hard it is and don’t appreciate it. It’s cool to see that you use Procreate, I love Procreate and use all the time, so it’s nice to find others that use it.
I'm kind of late to this, but I agree with Blue Dawns. In the video, JelArts states that you should draw stuff that only interests you. I don't know if it'll help, but the next time they tell you something like that, retort with a statement like "Then why don't you go draw that yourself, then? Your statements are not helping me improve in any way and I won't pander to what you wish for me to draw." That's a very clear example of negative criticism, they also need to understand that there's a difference between constructive criticism and negative criticism. You'll need to let them know that constructive criticism usually is stating something about the art that needs to improve or be worked on, not drawing more of something else. Either way, keep on drawing! Don't let stuff like that get you down.
I'm almost quitting being an online artist, it's harder and harder to get exposure and other artists are creating art every single day and posting non-stop. I can't compete with that :( I also work as a designer and my dream of being a full time artist is getting farer and farer. Earlier this year I deleted my art twitter because it was giving me some major anxiety and self esteem issues... Now I'm back to scale zero and only my friends follow my art
Hey I know it's scary to keep going with art but the trick is to keep going even if a part of it scares the live shit out of you ,trust me I worry plenty of times that my art isn't good enough ,bug the trick is to keep going and post what you love ,and when it comes to self esteem post what you love and what post what makes you happy ,with time this will attract the people interested in your art style and what makes it yours. What are are your account names ?do you have a instagram? Mine on Instagram is @Twinighttoast40
My friends don't support me, they don't even follow me. But I don't care because I didn't start to impress them. And as I continue my inevitable growth, they'll act like they were w/ me the entire time. It's just the way of the world. People only support once you do everything you said you would. This is my passion and no one can take it away from me because art is how I communicate my ideas. No one can replicate my way of communication.

You truly are genuinely sweet! I was going through a tough creative block, & your video reminded me to create what makes me happy. I've been working hard to grow my social media, & your advice helps so much, thank you!
I always hate my art, and tbh there is one comment that stuck with me "why u only draw monster (the creepy one) and angry bulky man?" And since then I draw other things like portrait, anime etc but I never feel satisfied with my art ever since. So, I'm confused how to continue this art journey.
Chiby Versity i would say think about what kind of art you love looking at, what things you love, and try drawing those things. if you love monsters and more creepy art, then draw that! your art should be for you, not for anyone else. everyone has a few things they always draw, its okay to draw the same thing a lot if you love it. if people in the comments dont like it, they dont have to look at it! find what makes you happy to create and motivates you to pick up a pencil, dont just draw what you think you should draw to make other people follow you, because that will never make you happy.
there’s always that one comment that sticks with you but you shouldn’t listen to those people. if you start ignoring the things that you like doing, of course you’re going to hate your art. draw what you want because art shouldn’t be a burden. art is about expressing yourself and it shouldn’t be about impressing others or listening to others. think about why you first started art. did you start because you love art? because you love being creative? everyone has a different art style and everyone is different. who cares if you draw creepy monsters or angry bulky men? draw what you love. do what you love.
your art will always come out better when you draw things that make you happy - plus it's way more fun! art is about just having fun and self expression. there are no rules so just draw what you love :)

I'm sorry for the late post, but I just found your video. You have some good points and your artwork is beautiful! I would say that while art can be considered good and bad, I think the most important thing is how art makes you feel. If you love it, then love it!
Your amazing and thank you for inspiring me through art block and now I have a more creative mind than before even though I’m known for being creative I was just stuck you got me through it so Thank you
I try to make quick sketches and messy lines. But it never turns out like your sketches. Maybe I should take up a pen instead of a pencil, do you think that makes a difference? I have a Tombow fudenosuke, what pens do you use?
Your drawing is brilliant. Don't forget vegetations and rocks and things, but I know this was just for the video which was great. Many thanks for posting.
Thank you! :) this really helped and hey I have a tendancy on over explaining too lol but I really liked your information it was inspiring. Also I live in MI so we have had some nice sunny warm weather in the 70's this week and today it's in the 40's and quite cold and they said could snow tomorrow! only in MI can you have all the seasons in one week haha. Happy fall!
One thing I need to get better at is to stop focusing on numbers and do what I enjoy. As Alan Watts said, why continue doing something you don't like so you can go on doing what you don't like and living miserably? In other words, there's no point to living a long life if said life involves doing things you hate. So instead of trying to cater to others, I'm just enjoying the process and appreciating the journey. I may not have much success in my channels, but I don't regret any of it. I've learned so many skills from making videos and streaming and it's helped me grow so much as person. That alone ks enough. Good luck out there everyone and have a great day!
Oh wow your left handed. I mean i know that's not a surprise for you but to me your a rare breed. Im a pretty recent subscriber so i never noticed. What made me notice was how your hand was moving. It looked off to me for a second and i didn't know what the difference was until it clicked.

never thought that posting art could be pressurizing ..but i literally have now gotten to the point that drawing feels stressful..i always find myself drawing not for myself anymore its for instagram..its sad honestly that i no more find that kind of pleasure and relaxing feeling while drawing..i really dont know what to do..btw great video..i think i should really keep going on just like u said..
I love your videos so much!! Do you think you could make a video on what to do if someone steals your art even with your watermark and or how to prevent that from happening? Keep up your amazing work!!
For the constructive criticism question: there's a middle ground between negative critcism and constructive criticism that happens. A lot of people don't appreciate that kind of criticism, like 'wtf even is that leg, you should've made it longer'. I just try to filter out the aggressiveness in it and take the constructive criticism from the comment. They might be very rude about it, but all feedback is helpful. My personl preference is to respond very politely and express appreciative anyway. But i get that thats kinda weird and don't recommend it to everyone haha.
Don't know if you'll see this, but something you said caught my ear cause I love just listening to your videos while I do chores, your voice is very calming and helps keep me focused, sorry I know thats weird. But the thing that caught me was you said you got used to criticism, I don't remember where it was and I couldn't find it, but you said it helped you to improve. I want to improve cause I know I can get better, but I'm never getting criticism. I usually am told "wow that's really good" and then nothing. How can I improve without knowing the areas I should work on? I mean, I know what I think doesn't look good but to others that looks the best. I don't know what to do. Sorry for the long comment
She mentions it during this question 6:28 and later repeats during the Q at 10:28 It's possible they focus on the whole art piece or parts that suit their personal preference and leave out what they think may feel off to not harm your motivation and feelings. At times possibly assuming it may be your art style too. I suggest being open and telling them you're comfortable receiving criticism and would like for them to share all their thoughts. Sadly not everyone reacts well to criticism so it can be scary to be on the giving end since no one would want to harm a friend or family member's drive for art. It's also possible they do feel something off but aren't able to express it because they don't have the artistic knowledge to know "why" it feels off. Making friends with fellow artist above and below your artistic range could be helpful for that.
you could try making an art amino account, especially if you're too afraid to do instagram, amino is a really friendly community and its really nice for seeking critiques and sharing art while you grow.
@@mica4977 thank you for the times, as I said I didn't know where and it's good to know where now since I'm an idiot😂. I also agree with what you were saying on how difficult it can be to give criticism, and I think I would try to do that, it just feels very difficult to do that at times cause I don't want to seem awkward or like I don't think that what they say isn't true, I want them to feel their opinions are valid even if they think it's bad I just don't know how to do that without being awkward.
@@ellespoonies I do have an Instagram and Amino actually. It's just like I said, I don't get any comments or anything unless it's something good which is all well and fine, but I don't know how to improve.
You're welcome, am unsure if it'll help but you could add a small note somewhere on Amino and Instagram expressing it, such as "Share if an aspect feels off in my art, all opinions/input matter & help". This way the ones that see can still give positive comments if they wish to but also consider giving critic if they know of any.
Good advices, personnaly I just add my best on Instagram, experimentation out of comfort zone who turn great and finish pieces, also inktober in this moment can help to get some view and challenging yourself for don't post for like, but for your mind, yourself and grow as a artist, cheer
Thank you so much for all the tips! After watching this for about the 5th time, I finally decided to start my own RUclips channel! I’d love to get some feedback on videos and my editing style! Again, thank you for the tips, I really appreciate it. You were one of my inspirations to start putting my art on the internet, and I’m really glad I started it! 😊
Another thing to add on to the followers point - understand that you'd rather have less followers that actually care about the content you post rather than having loads of followers that don't care about what you do. It's like RUclips; if you have millions of subscribers but have only a thousand views per video, then there's no point. Appreciate those few followers that care! Quality always over quantity! I have nearly a hundred followers on Instagram where I post my art (I'm using this as an example), but a lot of them (I'd say at least 5 to 10%) are either strangers trying to promote their own photos or accounts or business accounts trying to promote their products. I hope that made sense. ^^; And agreed with the patience thing, Rome wasn't built in a day. You will slowly grow, just like everything else. You will slowly learn that your followers or likes don't equal to how valid or how "good" your art is; it simply marks how many people admire your art and have discovered you. Also, great video! All your stuff is really inspiring and this doesn't stray away from it.
I needed this. I'm really lacking in motivation for drawing and have been getting tired after drawing one thing (plus I barely get any rt's and likes on twitter)

"Great Content" -- I don't let the views or likes get to me either. Because I'm, my Biggest FAN! (Hope that didn't sound too, Narcissistic XD) -- "Thanks for sharing"
I enjoy these bats so much! And the dinosaurs were so unexpected :D Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it's a pleasure to watch such videos!
I'm sorry for the late post, but I just found your video. You have some good points and your artwork is beautiful! I would say that while art can be considered good and bad, I think the most important thing is how art makes you feel. If you love it, then love it!
Your amazing and thank you for inspiring me through art block and now I have a more creative mind than before even though I’m known for being creative I was just stuck you got me through it so Thank you
Refreshing and grounded perspective, I appreciate your insights!
ALMOST fall. And yes, I love. Sweaters.
Another way to get better at art is to have humility. Being honest with yourself can help a lot.
Really good advice! Thanks for this video.
Thank you for the advice :)
Also, love your art
Great video! Lots of helpful tips here. I loved your little bat drawings, they're so cute!
The intro!! I like it sooo much! 💖
Thank you so much!
I love your channel and you are so talented and with practice I’ll definitely be as good as you. I love your art. ❤️
Bats are adorable!
so true! just do what we love!
Oh wow your left handed. I mean i know that's not a surprise for you but to me your a rare breed. Im a pretty recent subscriber so i never noticed. What made me notice was how your hand was moving. It looked off to me for a second and i didn't know what the difference was until it clicked.
Fall is the best season 🧡🍁
Love your work!!!
Love the vlog! Very calming and inspiring! Love your drawing style! 😊 😍
Great video! I'm about to start posting stuff on Instagram, so your tips will be super helpful! And I live in the southern hemisphere (I'm from Brazil o/), so it's spring here now :D
Again, just so so relaxing 😌! ❤️❤️❤️
i love your cute bat and dinosaur sketches
never thought that posting art could be pressurizing ..but i literally have now gotten to the point that drawing feels stressful..i always find myself drawing not for myself anymore its for instagram..its sad honestly that i no more find that kind of pleasure and relaxing feeling while drawing..i really dont know what to do..btw great video..i think i should really keep going on just like u said..
AAAAAA UR DRAWINGS, YOU'VE IMROVED SO MUCH

Yes! The intro is beautiful!🎨
Thanks for all the great advice! And your bats are too cute
Very helpful. Thanks a ton! This is gonna help me do stuff on my channel.
I love this video it was very helpful 😊👌❤ but I really can't post much because of school
I love your videos so much!! Do you think you could make a video on what to do if someone steals your art even with your watermark and or how to prevent that from happening? Keep up your amazing work!!
I love your videos :) they are so calming to watch yet so helpful. Subscribing for sure, thanks for sharing your tips!
Aw thanks so much! Welcome to my channel!
@@JelArts Thank you 😊
jel always knows what I need
I just saw the title and clicked on the video for background sound. As soon as I heard the intro jingle I was like "It's Jel!!!" lmao
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!
Very wise and helpful video. Thanks!
Great tips! Will try keeping these in mind.
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and those lovely bats ^^
Thanks for the information I was going to post a new video so that will help BTW your drawings are very amazing ❤️😁👍
She mentions it during this question 6:28 and later repeats during the Q at 10:28
It's possible they focus on the whole art piece or parts that suit their personal preference and leave out what they think may feel off to not harm your motivation and feelings.
"take pictures outside with natural sunlight"
-ahhmm the weather isn't cooperating...
Very nice advise! I think you do a great job and I enjoyed your vid. It was really helpful.
