Have never used anything but Arches since the first time I used this paper and noticed my skills at watercolour immediately upped 100%. It is true.. You are as good as the tools you use. 👌Thank you Arches..

I didn't know Arches still make paper in France. My Arches papers are made in China. But I have to say I didn't buy from Blick. It was from another reputable online professional art supply store. I actually think I will try Blick next time.
The watermark on my paper still prints France. But, the sticker that says the name of the paper, type and weight on the plastic wrap of the pack said China.
Those Arches are horrible: stinks, buckle up horribly (140lb paper, taped down on 4 sides, but managed to lift up the tape), and the worst part is you get this patch of discolored I don't know what it is on the middle of the paper. I didn't notice at first, but when I paint on the color, that patch shows, and I can tell the texture is different. I had to return most of the papers (18 out of 20 had that problem). I still keep some of the bad ones just to show people.
*All the discolored patch are the same size, and same location on the paper.

I got a block from Blick this week, that also says Made in China. I was surprised because the ones I still have are made in France. If Arches produced this video, I think it is really upsetting that they start by saying that the paper is made in France.

So what is different between the 3 kinds

+CrimsonCortex In regards to the three surface textures, hot press is the smoothest as it has been ironed smooth with a hotpress. The cold press is pressed with just the felts (not hot) and so it has a slight texture (think of the surface having goosebumps). Cold press s the most popular surface and probably the one you are familiar with using. Rough, is made with rougher felts and it has the most texture.
