I've found a good source of the athletic tape to be farm supply stores. Seems to be exactly the same as what's sold elsewhere. It's used for horses and comes in double the width but is half the price of the "human" stuff. I just take a sharp utility knife and slice the roll in half, then I'm ready to go.
@@CarvingisFun awesome gloves I tested mine with my air rifle none went through but a top of blades will go through any gloves newbie carver should be awear of that not stab proof 👍🐾🦊🇮🇹🇬🇧
I'm using finger bandages, mine have every 10cm a wound pad. Sure they are slimmer, but if you place the part with the wound pad where you could get cut they are awesome! Just a little bit more protection than just the tape
@@CarvingisFun I'm from Germany, so i don't know any US brands. But here is a link from the product (Manufacturer Website) just to get an idea. www.draco.de/dracoplast-fingerfix/ Have a great day!
I havent seen anything like that myself, but that could be because I wasn't looking for those specifically. For us, we will typically use individually packed bandages, band-aid is a brand that is common around here.
1:12 ...At our home depot , they sell 3 packs of A5 Firm Grip Cut Resistant Hi Visibility (L) for $15. These should be fine for safety eh ? 3:19 ...appreciate that tip with the tool wrap vs Athletic tape self grip....I will hunt for that today.. Thank you again for these budget tips for carving. cheers
I just bought some Amazon branded cut-resistant gloves. I didn't think about the black stuff potentially rubbing off the gloves and marking everything. Hopefully mine don't have that problem.
Hey Brian! Would you have an opinion on Flexcut's interchangable tool sets (SK107 or 108) and how they compare to their fix blade tools? Also on your website you gave stone carvings, do you do those with regular carving knifes/tools or do you use something else? Love the channel! Keep up the good work!
I personally haven't used Flexcut's interchangeable tools, but am usually weary of tools where the blades can completely detach. Still, I would probably use them for light carving but no dense wood. One thing I have learned about stone carving is you have tools that are only used for stone carving. The process dulls the tools quickly and works best with abrasive tools (files, rasps, dremels, stone chisels). Here is a video of me making a simple little carving ruclips.net/video/b9IRHkIPRMw/видео.html
If I'm carving something small I usually just use regular platers. That sport tape is probably pretty nice also since one can re use them. But I just can't find any gloves that I like. I wish there was some super thin gloves out there (and there probably is). But everyone I tried just don't feel right, the thin garden gloves with those little rubber dot's is ok. But when I carve, I like to feel what I'm doing. And if the gloves are too thick, you basically don't have any feel of what one are doing. That's my biggest issue with gloves.
Please do not use the basic gloves: they are not puncture-resistant. I learned that today when my knife went right through the basic glove and cut me to the bone on my index finger.
Just cut my hand open ......the blade went straight through the glove . Bled out for a while .....just had a beer ....ready to whittle again 👍
Sometimes that's whatcha need to do :)
The hand feels a bit rough now the beer has worn off lol

I didn’t listen to you and didn’t use protection so I absolutely cut up my thumb. I’ll be using athletic tape now. Learned my lesson
Live n learn :)
for thumb i personally prefer the harder material, with multiple wraps, but easy on tightness - they come off easily, and are way better for leverage
Yes! I have good gloves, but bad finger guards. I will use this. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video! I was curious about what you used so I could start trying my hand at this hobby. this really helped
Glad I could help!
Love my Dex Fit gloves. I use them for everything!
Thank you. Very useful information for me as for novice in a carving.
I butcherd some metal working gloves really good for thumb guard
Nice one, thanks. I like the idea of the thicker/wider tape.
I've been looking for this new info for weeks, thanks my good man. 🏴🖐👍🏴
You're welcome!

Indeed, slice resistant isn't stab proof. Still, some finger protection is way better than none!
@@CarvingisFun yeah prevention is better than cure lol 😂🐾🦊🇮🇹👍
Look in Walmart in the pharmacy you can get the self adhesive tape cheap and you can get 2 rolls in a package
Yeppers!

That is a cool option! I'll have to keep an eye out for some.

I actually bought and use the same Green tape as you!!
I'd never used it before - it's like some witchcraft/star trek future tech shit!

It's good stuff! Always good to have a roll or two on hand :)
I had my hand open and they gave me 6 stiches now I realise ho2 important is to wear gloves
Thank you!!

Yep, those should work!
Gotta give everyone good options without costing too much :) heck I dont want to pay too much myself!

I've only seen the rubber come off with a couple gloves but most that I have used seem to be just fine. Hopefully yours are good too :)
Informative and helpful. Thanks for doing this video.
You're welcome!
I just sliced my thumb pretty bad with a hook knife guy the other day. I shoulda listened to you lol
It's one of those live and learn moments. I did the same thing at the beginning.

The black on the rubber on my pair rubs off onto the carvings. I’m switching to non rubber ones
Sounds good :) I know some people have told me that theirs rubs off, I wonder if it is a batch issue?
Thank you.

I hear ya, some gloves are just too thick and dont feel right.
Brian, I tried using the contact link on your website, but it is not working right now. Is there an email I can contact you at?
I've been trying to fix that contact section on my website, but contact me at brian@carvingisfun.com

Ouchies!!!
Ya, they are just slice resistant, not proof but resistant. Leather and mesh gloves are more puncture resistant but do reduce dexterity
theyre not supposed to be puncture resistant they are not batman gloves
