They're actually two types of old keys. The one is you describe that the back cover pops off and another type that the whole cartridge slides out. If you have the one with a cartridge slides out you will tear it up. Trying to pop the cover off. I don't know what year it is but you should add that to your video 5:12
Thanks for the suggestion! It’s tricky I thought I’d produce a video on how it works but my local Mercedes only had the keys shown in the video as dealerships tend to only keep cars over the past few years. Would be happy to produce the video again but it’s finding the key even before that that’s tricky.
Just to add to Nick's great video.. I used to experience a fair amount of people who said that they'd changed the battery but the key still didn't work. When we changed to a Mercedes supplied battery the keys then worked. No idea why... I'm guessing there are some cheap batteries on the market that just don't cut it, so best to ensure its a quality branded type to be safe.
Just use 2032 batteries from any brand, you will be fine. There are 2025 and 2016 bateries won't work because of the energy they provide are less than 2032, will not cut for the new MB keys.
Hi Nick I have an old style key. I think you rushed the “turn the key around” tip. I had to watch another video to understand it. Just an observation as your videos are superb.
In November I had my 2020 E 350 in for routine service. Per the maintenance schedule, they replaced the battery at a cost of $25 (£18). I can buy 2 batteries at my supermarket for $3.25 (£4.45). This is a hell of a tip! 👍
Hey FaZe END, really sorry I wouldn’t know however you can keep an eye out on the motability website. The second you see Mercedes-Benz there, you’ll be able to order one 🤓 I imagine it’ll be when the semiconductor shortage get’s better and supply isn’t an issue 👍🏼
Hi Nick, I posted this question on another video of yours and I have a 2019 C300 AMG line. The key fob only works when I’m standing right next to the drivers door and this is the same for either locking/unlocking the door. Also the keyless go feature is intermittently unresponsive. The batteries have been changed a few times and still no improvement. When I’m driving it will occasionally pop up that it can’t detect the key while it’s sitting in the cradle. Any idea what could be wrong. Excellent channel you got here.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Hmmm well you’ve done the right steps for troubleshooting keyless. The only thing I can suggest is chat to Mercedes staff at a dealer and they can check to see if the antennae or receiver in the car is working as it should.

Hey Nick ! Thank you for all the effort in making this videos. I'm the happy owner of an W177 A class bought in second hand and I have few questions for whenever you'll have the time to answer. After changing the key battery, should the message automatically disappear from the display? If it doesn't, it means the battery is still bad? Hey LikeAn00b, ooo very nice! Yes it should disappear, after changing. I’d see if it just a delayed message and see if it goes the next day or something.
Thank you! This will be very useful one day. Once I payed the equivalent to £27 on a Portuguese Mercedes dealership service just to change the battery. I was appalled. Although I have the money to pay for a useless service like that, I think it was just absurd. And the worst is that I saw the “work” being done and the guy didn’t have a clue. Hmm strange it should change straight away Sadly not been in an ML 250 so not sure if there’s a hidden setting. Just thinking outside of the box, have you tried replacing both key batteries?

I just bought a Mercedes glc (2020), and I was wondering that can I store the cars key during driving in the center console, in the cup holder where is the marked zone of the emergency operation mode for the key? Will it confuse the car that I want to start it in emergency operation mode or something like this? Thanks for your answer!!!

Hey Paul thank you! No sadly the keys are just as they are and don’t have any correlation to user profiles in the car.
