They're actually two types of old keys. The one is you describe that the back cover pops off and another type that the whole cartridge slides out. If you have the one with a cartridge slides out you will tear it up. Trying to pop the cover off. I don't know what year it is but you should add that to your video 5:12

Thanks for the suggestion! It’s tricky I thought I’d produce a video on how it works but my local Mercedes only had the keys shown in the video as dealerships tend to only keep cars over the past few years.
Would be happy to produce the video again but it’s finding the key even before that that’s tricky.

yet another brilliant video Nick, thanks. QQ - is there a way to link a key to a profile? Ideally the key would then recognise the profile & adjust seat mirrors etc so I didn't have to squeeze into the car after my wife last used it.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад +1

Hey Paul thank you! No sadly the keys are just as they are and don’t have any correlation to user profiles in the car. I know that other manufacturers have done this but then you’re limited with users to the number of keys, in most cases…2.
In Mercedes with profiles you can have up to 7 profiles so 7 users instead 👍🏼

@@npoleary Thanks for the knowledge share :) The Easy entry/exit seat function doesn't seem to move the seat - just the back, which is why I was hoping the keys would link to profiles. I know on my 2020 A Class Premium Plus the steering wheel is manually adjusted. Are the seat memory buttons linked to the profiles or are they independent? Just trying to find the best way of having enough space for a big guy getting in after a small person was last to use the car :) Perhaps I have to use those to get access?

Just to add to Nick's great video.. I used to experience a fair amount of people who said that they'd changed the battery but the key still didn't work. When we changed to a Mercedes supplied battery the keys then worked. No idea why... I'm guessing there are some cheap batteries on the market that just don't cut it, so best to ensure its a quality branded type to be safe.

Just use 2032 batteries from any brand, you will be fine. There are 2025 and 2016 bateries won't work because of the energy they provide are less than 2032, will not cut for the new MB keys.

    Hi Nick,
I posted this question on another video of yours and I have a 2019 C300 AMG line. The key fob only works when I’m standing right next to the drivers door and this is the same for either locking/unlocking the door. Also the keyless go feature is intermittently unresponsive. The batteries have been changed a few times and still no improvement. When I’m driving it will occasionally pop up that it can’t detect the key while it’s sitting in the cradle.
Any idea what could be wrong.

@@npoleary can you please guide me to the previous tips video regarding ‘turning off the spare key’ as I’m having issues with battery life being very short in both keys.
FYI I have tried to do the double click to prevent draining the keys batteries, to no avail. My vehicle year of manufacture is 2012 E250. I bought it 4 months ago and already had to replace both batteries twice. Other than this she purrs along beautifully.
Appreciate your informative videos, they’ve saved me from calling out for help several times 😊

      Thanks Alex!
      Yes the link is here:
      ruclips.net/video/omt_MIepoq8/видео.html
Although I’m not 100% sure that it would work on a 2012 Mercedes (you can tell if the red LED flashes on the key when you double click it)
Have you spoken with your local Mercedes? Could be something wrong somewhere? It should last longer than that!

@@npoleary I think you’re right in that it’s not available on my older car.
I will take your advice and speak with my local dealer here in Queensland about it chewing through the batteries.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond so quickly, you really are lovely cheers

Hey Echo Guy, with the previous key, you can normally pat it out in your hand once the covers are off, however if it’s the newer style key, it’s located in the small slider when the cover is off.
If you’re stuck just get in touch with your local Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to give you a hand.
