  • The budget has delivered a blow to farmers and I hope you will take interest in how farming families are trying to constructively engage the government to protect Britains food supply.
    Thank you for backing British farming.

    Well said Eleanor Farmers and small businesses have been hit hard in this Budget. Labour government should rethink and don’t bite of the hands that feed them.

    Well done Ellie, Have you seen the reaction on Harry's Farm ? We did import a lot of grain from Russia and Ukraine, obvs at the moment we are not. Also factor in the current fad for re-wilding, ( 20% forced onto Welsh farmers ), National Trust flooding farmland on purpose, Govt encouraging tree planting, solar farms and building on the greenbelt coupled to the population explosion we are experiencing and you can see that our food production is getting very stressed.

    The irony of saying imagine if parliament was to disappear on Guy Fawkes Night. Brought a smile to my face. She will tax farmers for having animals that produce methane in the next budget.

    This is the problem of having elected politicians who haven't a clue about farming and food security. They don't realise that family farms are asset rich but cash poor with the huge investment needed for modern agricultural production. They also don't realise that farm land will probably have to be sold to pay for the inheritance tax

    • @geoffmott6356
      @geoffmott6356 3 месяца назад +1

      And, once sold, nothing can be grown on it. I support Ellie in this.

    This absolutely sucks, so many people have been shafted by this Government's budget.....there must be a way around this for you, maybe being "gifted" sections of the farm over the coming years to reduce your parents "on paper" assets? Dunno, there must be a way....hopefully when Labour get booted out at the next general election things can go back to being sensible 🤞

      @ farmers voted for Brexit, to force up food prices, they are now paying for there selfishness,

    While I have some sympathy for owner occupier farmers being hit in the budget, surely even if this causes some of these to sell land, the farm land will not disappear, it will just be farmed by others. For all the complaints from owner occupiers, it shows what a stand out job tenant farmers must be doing, if they can afford to farm whilst also paying rent for their land, when many land owners are telling us that they cannot afford to the up to 20% IHT on land where no rent needs to be paid and presumably a loan could be secured at less than the rate of commercially renting the land. It also suggests that only those fortunate enough to be born into farming can every realistically seek to have there own farm, as new entrants would have to raise 100% capital not 20%

      And who are 'these others' who will be stupid enough to buy this land only to have it stolen after a lifetimes hard work?
