  • Charting events in 1987 when Severn Valley Locos returned steam to the Cambrian Coast Route for the first time since the mid 1960's. This version has been uploaded in black & white to give a 1960's archive feel.

Superb video well filmed. Brings back happy memories of the runs we had behind all three locos. Perfect line for steam operations. Very well done 😊

Had some cracking runs on those 1987 operations.

I rode this train from Tywyn to Barmouth to Machynlleth and return to Tywyn on August 18, 1987. Great ride. The next day I was at the Talyllyn station as Hinton manor went past with the Talyllyn locomotive and Hinton Manor exchanging whistles!

Super! I remember Hinton manor out and about in the 1980s when my kids were small. The only time I remember the Cambrian coast line was on my way to a school field course, maybe 1965 and Standard 4s had replaced the manors by then.

Let's hope steam can return to the Cambrian Coast in the near future.

Great video, unfortunately it’s highly unlikely this will happen again.😟

This needs to be done again, and become a regular feature. Definitely needs to be using a Western loco.
