2025 Kia EV5 Overview
Kia has revealed a new electric compact SUV called the EV5 that wears a similar wardrobe as the larger EV9 crossover. Kia has confirmed that the EV5 will be exclusively be sold in China, South Korea, Canada, and Mexico, and further added that EV5 won't make it to the U.S. market due to the manufacturing-related intricacies of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
The EV5 uses the same underpinnings as Kia’s other new EV models, including the company's fast charging, 800-volt electrical architecture. Single and dual-motor versions are likely to be offered, and Kia EV5 could also provide buyers the option for standard and long-range battery packs. Inside, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5.0-inch climate control touchscreen means almost everything is a screen. The version we saw during Kia's EV Day event in Seoul, South Korea featured a second row that folded flat to a small bed for camping.
What's New for 2025?
If plans change and Kia decides to sell the EV5 in the U.S. market, the electric SUV would slot in below the mid-size EV6 alongside the gasoline-powered Seltos crossover.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The entry-level EV5 that will be sold in other markets-likely to be called Light-will be offered with rear-wheel drive and a single electric motor with 215 horsepower. Moving up to the Wind, Land, and GT-Line models will likely add a second motor, giving the EV5 all-wheel drive and a total of 308 ponies. Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The cheapest EV5 will come with a smaller 64-kWh battery but all others will get a longer-range 88-kWh pack. To compete with rivals such as the Ford Mustang Mach E, the Nissan Ariya, and the Volkswagen ID.4, the Kia will need to target an estimated range of about 300 miles for its longest-range model.
