- Yuki Ishikawa DESTROYED Canada in Men's VNL 2024 !!! The fourth-best team in the Preliminary Phase, last year’s bronze medalists Japan earned the right of appearing in the VNL semifinals for a second-straight season with a solid 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 26-24) victory over fifth-placed Canada.
Currently in second place in the World Rankings with 360.75 points, the Japanese benefited from an extraordinary performance from team captain Yuki Ishikawa to prevail over the Canadians. The 28-year-old Ishikawa was by far Japan’s most productive player on the court, producing 26 points, with 20 kills, three blocks and three aces. The next Japanese player to appear in the box score after him was fellow outside hitter Tatsunori Otsuka, who tallied ten points, with eight kills and two aces.
“This was such a tough match,” Ishikawa reflected. “But we managed to win in three and are very happy. We knew Canada was playing very well so we knew we had to keep our focus the entire time. Last year we lost in the semifinals and this time we’re determined to make another step forward and play in the final.”
Yūki Ishikawa (石川祐希, Ishikawa Yūki, born 11 December 1995) is a Japanese male professional volleyball player from Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture.
Ishikawa is the first volleyball player to have a wax figure in Japan.[1] Currently, his wax figure is displayed at Madame Tussauds Tokyo.[2]
Ishikawa was named "Best outside spiker" award at the FIVB World Cup (2015, 2019), FIVB Nations League (2023), Asian Championship (2017, 2019, 2021), as well as "Most valuable player" award at the Asian Championship (2017, 2023).
As of April 2021, Ishikawa is the captain of the Japan men's national volleyball team, and plays as an outside hitter. He currently plays in the SuperLega (The highest level of Italian Volleyball League) for Sir Safety Perugia.

Ishikawa, Yamamoto, and Otsuka had the best performance. Sekita was very solid as usual. The Canadian Rocky Mountains (blockers) looked very intimidating but the team Japan conquered it.
Ishikawa can only be replaced as Captain is when he chooses to retire from National Team. A long wayyyy till Japan gets another Ishikawa in the future ❤️
Yamauchi is his senior and will be captain next year, yes it's Ishikawa's idea. I think this is better so he can have harmony and be more relaxed with his teammates, it's his turn to have fun and less responsibility.

I see Yuki in Kai, hope he gets to and even surpasses Yuki's level someday.
I hope so so he can contribute that to the national team. I've seen Yuki play when he was 17 and even at Kai's age now (20). Yuki was definitely stronger and smarter on the court. He was a league on his own. But yes, hopefully Kai trains more and improves quicker and most importantly be smart on the court.
I hope everyone on the team improves more everyday. But surpassing yuki? Idk he is just something else and he is completely on a different level.
