One more comment: I have a recommendation for a possible video (a few related topics): -what are the benefits/drawbacks of reading WIPs and chat a little about the unique experience of going through a WIP where you get to interact with the author a little bit by making comments as the chapters are posted-how cool it is when the authors respond to your comments and/or the little thrill that can sometimes happen if something from a comment you made sneaks its way into the story. -related topic: is there a general list of etiquette when commenting on fics? -a related topic: are there any unfinished/abandoned works that you love and think were worth reading even though you have no expectations of them being finished? -a related topic: any interactions you’ve gotten to have with any authors as a result of this RUclips channel (or whatever other medium you post on) and what that’s been like for you to make those contact(s) with the authors if any -another related topic: have you ever submitted story prompts? How does that work, how do you do it? -another topic: do you have a couple story ideas in your head where you think if I ever wrote a fic, this is what I’d write about and/or have you ever thought about trying your hand at it or what recommendations/tips would you give someone who was curious about trying? -related: what is a beta and how do people volunteer to become a beta and what is that like?

Random stream of consciousness: -the senlinyu veela one I think you’re talking about may be: a thing with[out] feathers by senlinyu ? . . . or there’s another: love and other misfortunes by senlinyu. I really like a thing with[out] because it’s a weird/unique twist and kind of a psychological puzzle to solve and things are not what they seem -yeah, Veela Draco is definitely a thing, although I wonder if it shows up more often in drarry? I tried a search for the tag “Veela Draco” narrowed to dramione on ao3 and there’s a ton of stuff there-I usually sort by kudos when I do a search like that. -In general a major theme of the trope (or sometimes can be a major “ick” factor) is the thing about coercion versus free choice. Where they seem to fall in love but then one or the other freaks out because they can’t tell what parts of what they are feeling/experiencing is real and what parts are coerced/magically impressed upon them (taking away free choice/consent). Some fics play with this conundrum by switching up the “rules” of the trope to get around that bind. And, just like marriage law fics, Draco is more preconditioned for something like magically selected binding/bonding than Hermione since he grew up with the idea of arranged marriage and she didn’t, so you can see how that makes a difference in how they process what they are going through -I quite often see references making fun of how pervasive the Veela Draco trope is: where the characters (in a non-Veela fic) are making fun of the idea of Veela Draco-/it’s like the author is winking at the reader, breaking the fourth wall a bit. -I read a cute Veela Draco fic where they randomly accidentally meet in a park when they are four and Draco starts acting possessive over Hermione-Draco’s parents decide to befriend Hermione’s family to cultivate a friendship early-it’s just a short little sketch to get you thinking, but it’s super cute: the precocity of Veela by maryroyale -there’s one (a veela fic) I really like because it’s kind of a twist from the usual “rules” of the trope: the wrong strain by colubrina Changing topics . . . -I’ve kept a list (in notes app) for a long time but only just recently started rating fics as I add them to my list.
