  • FANTASTIC SOUNDS from the window behind Mid-Hants LMS Black 5 45379 as she eases her 5 coach load up the 1 in 40-1 in 59 gradients to Cauldon Lowe during the Churnet Valley Railway's Steam Weekend (25/02/12). This is the first time that trains ran unassisted to Cauldon Lowe as a run-around loop has been installed there.
In this video, we first leave Consall before opening up at Leekbrook Junction for the long and arduous climb. Finally, now from the lineside, 45379 is seen departing Cheddleton for Leekbrook.

Black Fives were always amazing, the best all rounder that was ever made and there was hundreds of them built for LMS.

We can put 6 behind her fully loaded on 1 in 60 banks and she flattens them, sadly she now needs an overhaul!

Don't know this line, but thinking back to the steam times, by the sound n smoke the engine was worked very well by engine men, however It was hardly a load at five coaches.
