  • The sound of the ex B.R STD 4 'Braveheart is heard tackling the steep climb of the Cauldron Lowe Branch to Ipstones Loop on the Churnet Valley Railway. Six angles capture the visiting 4MT digging in on the 1/45 section from Four Fields to Longshaw Farm near Bradnop. Braveheart is on hire from The Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway and will stay till May where it will feature alongside 4079 'Pendennis Castle' at their steam gala.
I hope you enjoy the sound of a locomotive hard at work.

Braveheart truly is amazing. I remember seeing the locomotive at the Dartmouth Steam Railway and being taken aback at how rugged, neat and strong it appeared.

When you get those long-shots along the tracks, it emphasizes just how rough and uneven some sections are.

A great show put on by Braveheart.
Very good firing considering she was feathering at the Safeties most of the way.

Cannot wait until their Pendennis Castle at 100 steam gala. In May, I might end up going to the CVR several times to see 4079 before the gala

We have a hill over here in the colonies that is 1/20 660 feet long and with a train of coal louries 4,400 tons it would take two 2-8-2 mikados on the head end and two 2-8-8-2 mallet pushers to get the train up the hill at 15 mph, it is currently abandoned but before so it took 4 3000 hp diesels on the leade and 4 on the tail to do the same , and the grade was frightening, there is a run off track at the bottom incase there was a run away it was inevitable, before they constructed it there were many wrecks, and passenger trains much like this one plied the rails 3 coaches maximum and two 4-6-2 pacifics. I am so amazed at the 4-6-0 locos you have with the giant drivers with the tiny fulcrum , you must be using very thick decks to bring the adhesion up to even the small amount of slippage you have. Even the heaviest of 4-6-2s in our liveries would have happily worn their tires to the hub with that 1/45 slope and yet your locos handle it with aplomb. BRAVO, BRAVO.

I didn't think it would have any problem here, it's so used to Goodrington and Churston banks that it wouldn't have issues anywhere else. However the rails were dry here, it would be interesting to see how it does in the wet. I hadn't even noticed it was missing from Churston shed a few days ago! Lovely to see other people enjoying it.

Heya! Awesome video! Was just wondering, since pendennis is going up the gradient in may, do you have any directions or tips on how to get to these locations?
    Thanks,
